How do you catch mew/mewtwo?

Mewtwo is in the Unknown Dungeon (the place near Cerulean city where the man is blocking you from entering the cave) which can be entered if you have beat the Elite Four.
Mew can be sharked in, got in a promotion, or done with the glitch, which can be seen in this topic:

Actually, you can use the glitch to catch any Pokemon, including Mewtwo, Mew, Charizard, Blastoise, the other legendaries, all at Level 7. You can also find Missingno. and M, even on the Yellow version.

Yes you can. With the mew glitch, which can be used to find a level 7 version of any Pokemon I believe.

cool source can you tell me more about the special =pokemon? like the special number is equivalent to the pokemon number?

The Special Number refers to the Special Stat of the Pokemon ur facing. For example, for Mew, when you fight that kid with the Slowpoke on the way to Bill's house, that Slowpoke has a Special Stat of 21. This is what triggers mew to appear. If you fought with the first hiker on the same route, who is near the grass, the special stat of the last Pokemon he uses would trigger a Nidoqueen to come.
Also, i think that doing this glitch a multiple of times does weird things. See, i did the the part where you fly or teleport from the trainer. Then, i went behind the house where the Rocket broke in, fought him, then made my way down to Vermillion City. There, i fought a Bug Catcher who had a Butterfree. I went back to the route where the original trainer i flew away from was, and a message saying "YOu could be a leader in Team Rocket appeared. Then, I was challenged by a LV. 80 Starmie. Of course, i did the glitch twice before that, so that may have had an effect on it.

how do you get to the cave? It's been away since I played...I've beaten the game (elite four anyway) but when I check (if I remember right) there's something blocking you...?
