Deck Theme's - List'em. Who said this game is getting boring?

In an effort to combat the argument that this game is getting boring and that everyone is playing the same kind of deck, I proposed that we make a list of commonly played (and some not so commonly played) deck styles that exist. I have edited this post weekly to collect new thoughts into this first post which is continued at The New Deck theme’s List (http://www.pojo.biz/board/showthread.php?t=440887).


HOW TO GET YOUR DECK LINKED

1) Post your deck in the deck forum. Your post must be neat and organized. Only post one deck per posting, I do not link to deck galleries. Your post must include some explanation about how your deck works. The key cards in your deck should also be noted and explained.
2) Do not post traditonal format decks. Only post advanced format decks.
3) Decks must be unique to the list. Do not post decks that are already in the list, they are listed. If you have a deck that is vastly improved over a posted one, let me know when you recommend it and please indicate which deck you want replaced and why your's is better.
4) Only post decks that are viable. I'm not going to link to silly decks, decks that are not designed with a winning intent or decks that have no clear purpose will not be linked.

You get field prescence through two ways: Human Wave Tactics but especially Enchanting Fitting Room.

HMW: When your Lv 2 or lower normal monsters are destroyed in battle, at the end of the turn you can special summon, FROM YOUR DECK, the same ammount of monsters

Fitting Room: You pay 800 lp then pick the top four cards of your deck and special summon any Lv 2 or lower normal monster on the field then return any other card to your deck.

Then you got Thousand Energy, Triangle Power and Sword of the Soul Eater for power boost, Man Thro' Tro to burn the opponent before Triangle Power or Thousand Energy destroys your weenie and you got Level Limit Area B to protect them. Emissary of the Oasis can protect your LP too.

And Law of the Normal just blow up everything. Use it AFTER Triangle Power and it's a one turn win unless they chain Waboku.

That's how a weenie deck wins!

(there's also Wall of Revealing Light for stall)

I really don't think that there it is possible to make a list of deck themes because right now we have more than 10'000 deck themes we just dont see them and with newer sets we get more and more. Think of it this way every single card in this game has a theme or can be used in a theme. Playable or not it has a theme and that theme can be mixed with another theme making a hybrid and with more and more sets we get even more options so we get even more of them people are just oriented trhough what they see around them and don't notice what's in front of them. Those are just my thoughts.

under style of play decks: direct attack deck (inaba rabit, servant of catabolism, jinzo #7)

spirtis (which you have in the large list) move under your booster set decks and tag it with LOD (at the least that's where they were primarily introduced although some are from DCR)

i know you have fiend listed, but it might be possible to list out Necrofear Deck as a subset of fiend.

subsets of zombies could be: deck destruction (alternate win with soul absorbing bone towers, etc.), beatdown (ryu kokki etc.), and others i'm sure

with the weenie rush, add in to the assoicated cards Human Wave Tactics.

until i can think of specifics, equip decks could go under style of play (axe, mage power, united we stand, etc.)

Possibly and infinite loop category? although most of those revolve around Butterfly Dagger. so maybe list the subsets and have that as a deck type heading.

Guardian Sphinx would be the associated card for Bounce Control.

under style of play, fire princess decks. she really doesn't fit solely under life gain or burnere as she's a combination.

under sytyle of play: remove from game decks (as mentioned before) gren maju decks are a subset, associated cards are soul release, skull lair, Chaos Rider, Bazoo. Dimension Fusion could be a subset of the remove from play.

Injection Fairy Lily can have a deck of her own. Not sure where to put it other than under style of play. Associated cards: solemn wishes, sebek's blessing, mystic wok, life absorbing machine, nimble momonga, skull mark ladybug. (although this could be a subset of life gain now that i think of it).

stall is a style of play. associated cards: level limit area B, gravity bind, messenger of peace. guarantee there are many subset decks to this.

with the last turn deck, an associated card is Jowgen (obviously).

Under booster set sub-theme:
level Up or level monsters (howeve you want to call them), for SOD (out soon enough). sub sets of that are Horus, Armed Dragon, mystic swordsman (although not complete in SOD)

Just a few things to either suggest or to help in sorting out what you've arleady got. As i come up with anything else I'll be sure to let you know. should be interesting to see a nice long filled list as this goes on.

^__~! Nobody has Mentioned Skill Drain! (I might have missed it.) Skill Drain is a great deck. I have playtested it since around the beginning of IOC and it's been a very good deck. Zombyra's, GAF's, Gorillas. They are all playable in the deck, also the deck has some back-up thanks to the Skill Drain friendly monsters such as Newdoria, Twin Headed Behemoth, and Exiled Force. =D. I hope this deck works Post Ban. ^__^ v

You do know that the Insect Deck could possibly be considered a lock down deck via DNA Surgery + Insect Barrier. Just like Parasite Paracide + Insect Barrier + Mask of Restrict. Also it makes great field control when locked down via Swarm of Scarabs and Swarm of Locusts.

And for Weenie Rush, don't forget Venus + Shine Balls + Thousand Energy + Delta Attacker. And for control, control can be alot of things, but when most people refer to control, they mean cards that controls your opponent's drawing action + hand amount.

Cards like Don Zaloog controls both card amount in hand and deck drawing control. Spirit Reaper controls the hand amount as well. Alot of cards do these, like Robbin Zombie and Robbin Goblin. That, is what I personally, believe is control.

The concept is one card in your deck. True you need the fusions, but really, its all about having scientist. To what degree do the other 39 cards matter all that much ------ meaning that they support scientist and help you get the kill.

My thinking is fusions and rituals are generally used in one of three ways:

1) scientist
2) A deck built around a stong one like Shinto or B.Skull Dragon
3) As supplements for a stonger theme like Shinato in a light deck.

i dont think zombie morph is in there. strong deck. set up like the deck destruction zombies with the bone towers, except morph patricians and vlord into reaper on the nightmare over and over with bone towers out (until you run out of metamorphisis that is). then attack directly with the RotN with robbin zombies (hopefully). spirit reapers also morph into flame ghost.
looks good on paper, never seen anyone try it where i play.

I'm talking about removal. 3 Soul Absorptions out there on the field, and all you gotta do is play cards that help it, like Banisher of the Light, Soul Release, etc etc. Once you get this going down, you can easily gain up to 7500 life per turn, if not more, and thats only with 3 Soul Absorptions out, play 1 Soul Release, and have 1 Banisher of the Light out. Wait no... that's 9000. So see? Removal is probably the easiest way to gain life points.

I always think of the flying squirrl card as a key life gain card, but you got something interesting. Does it win matches? I mean, the idea is your opponent hits zero - you don't win when you hit 20,000. So you can stall, but can you win? What are the KEY, really central cards to this kind of deck?

Ritual Chaos - CED and BLS-EOB. Run with Relinquished to steal monster from opponent immediatley before blowing up the field. ok, that is a dumb explanation, but my point is explain it somewhat. I really don't see how Chaos synergizes with any rituals in a way that is unique. The only exception I can think of would be running a Zork/Shinto deck so you have light and dark monsters and maybe run a dimension fusion. Hows that for a ritual chaos deck? napay

I will try to edit this post daily to collect new thoughts into this first post. I'm not a professional post'er so please bear with me. I love good arguments, but lets keep them civil.

I dunno, the Elemental Monsters get boosts from certain element FIRE: +500 ATK, WATER: Can't shift the control, WIND: Can attack a second time after destroying a monster, EARTH: Negate effects of monster destroyed in battle.

That's pretty much it...

The too-many-tributes deck.

Seriously, with the current support, and Venus herself, a Light-Attribute deck can run almost half of its monster slots as level five or higher monsters. And lemme tell you, many of my foes have been left unsettled by a Blue eyes/Guardian Angel Joan/Mystical Knight of Jackal combo staring at them.

Please remember, the idea is not to create a theme deck just because there is a theme of common cards. Meaning, a deck where all the cards start with the letter M is not the kind of theme I'm looking for.

I'm looking to add and enhance the list with Themes that have a specific strategy for winning. Like an all Female Deck would be fine --- IF someone would also post the method of winning and that method of winning was particularly special for that kind of deck.

This is why I've not posted some of the recommendations. If you feel I missed one that does fit the concept, please re-post it. Also, I'd like you to please put your explanation in the post. Also using other burn cards and/or monsters with nice effects and decent attacks or really strong monsters since your opponent can only play so many cards with the LPs they have.

Ectoplasmer - Mainly using Malice Doll of Demise and Ectoplasmer to deal burn damage. Even though this is more attack oriented in a tournament version (the deck I have floating around). What will usually happen is you summon Malice and tribute it for 800 damage. Then your opponent does what ever and then at end turn their monster is tributed. Your turn Malice comes back and you barrage your opponent. So actually it is more of a field control deck that just so happens to use a burn card as a major part of it. Of course you can make a burner version.

1) Where exactly should they go? Do they fall under existing categories?
2) I bet there are different types of warrior decks. Meaning there are different ways to go about extracting that win with a warrior deck. maybe we need to list it in more then one place?
3) For each kind of warrior deck, there must be unique key cards for that deck. please list them along with the deck type. Don't want to be confusing ...say... warrior burn with warrior beatdown.

a nice way to swarm ur opponent in a fiend deck is to remove your strong monsters from play with necrofear, set return from the d.d. and then on ur next turn pay half ur lps and bring out a lot of monsters to smack ur opponent around. i know i run a fiend deck with 3 necrofears and 2 return from d.d. it works wonders when pulled off right.

In an effort to combat the argument that this game is getting boring and that everyone is playing the same kind of deck, I proposed that we make a list of the primary deck styles that exist and are played. I have editted this post daily to collect new thoughts into this first post for a while now.

Here's the list that has been posted so far. I've adjusted it a bit to ensure that we're only listing deck types that are clearly specific as to what they are.

1) Post links to example decks and I will add them to the list. Examples help folks.
2) Where you can help add more info about a deck style that is listed, please do.
3) I move things around, please let me know how to better classify things.
4) It seems to me that everyone of these deck types is primarily centered on one or two cards, lets name that card after the deck type if its not the name of the deck type.
5) POST-BAN ENGLISH CARD DECKS

I've added the Gear Golum deck, I understand it and its cool. If you make a separate post with just this deck in it, I'll link it.

I don't completely understand the Grandmaster deck. Yes, its monster removal - but you don't do LP damage and the name of the game is - opponent 0 / you more than 0. I see this as a great monster removal strategy that needs a deck to work in. If you have this in a deck, what's the rest of the strategy?

Wave Control. There are sooooooo many posts and frankly I'd like someone to point me to ONE just one that has the deck and the strategy all in one post - written in complete plain english. I'm too old for a lot of jargon. Sorry, but I'm not looking to prove anything.

I've moved around a few that you mentioned. I didn;t move other's because I really want to create categories that make sense with the other categories that are there. Some other decks, no one has been able to explain to me so I don't feel comfortable categorizing them. Deck posts with good explanation are what I really want then I can have certainty that I'm keeping the organizational structure of the list intact.

Fiend Beatdown- Fun old deck. Ha des, slate, archfiend, crossout, and other stuff. Actually works!

Total Lockdown Burn- Ojama Trio, Lava Golem, Cannon Soldier,
Soul Exchange, and stall stuff. I play this a lot and the basic idea is to fill up the opponents zones with ojamas, locking down with stall and golem. It wins most of the time.

Zombie Field Conrol- My invite winning deck. Top 4red twice. Compulsory, Swap, 3 turtles, 3 goats, and plent of enemy controller! Total field domination. Check the link in my sig.

The point of this deck is to basically keep Balloon Lizard out as long as possible, with the help of the cards in the deck, like Shift, Ground Collapse, and Patrician. And if they that doesn't work, then I have ways of destroying the Lizards myself, such as Newdoria, and using Barrel Behind the Door.
Sort or a burn. Sort of not. Eh. I don't know.

I made a Level 1 and 2 Normal Weenie deck before. Obviously after AST came out.

With CoH banned, and that new card Brain Jacker, it might be cool to make a deck full of that, Rafflesia Seduction (spelling probably wrong), Jowls of Dark Demise, and Invader of the Throne. Add a couple Creature Swap and ECs (and possibly Mind Control?), and you have a recipe for a "I Stole all your Monsters!" deck.

Someone probably already listed this one, but Labyrinth of Nightmare deck with GAF, Giant Orc, Spear Dragon, etc.

EARTH/Weenie. Giant Rat, Nimble Momonga, Cat's Ear Tribe (my favorite card of all time), Legendary Jujitsu Master, etc.

the deck is based off of getting Master of Oz on the field equipping him with meagmoprh / attacking with him and the using ring for game ( either way works )

the way you get Master of Oz out is you play Metamorphosis on Moisture Creature and as you can see this deck relies on speed in witch case I have Reasoning ( who calls Lv.9 ) and once they figure out the Startegy I side in Gillasuaus so they can't call Lv. 9 all of the time ( if I left it as it is then I would lose ). Megamorph is just there to ensure a one turn kill as well as Fairy's Meteror Crush just in case they activate scapegoat. My own Scaoegoat is in ther to not only combo with monster gate but to make sure I have jinzo so they can't activate there precise trap cards. If Jinzo is not enough I have Trunades and Heavy Storm to ensure they won't be able to counter it. The only problem with the deck so far has been Waboku but I have found that not many people use that anymore. Dark Magican of Chaos is in there because he can help woth Reaoning and monster gate to return either a metamorphosis or Pot/Graceful. Fianllay Compulsory is in there to ensure my opponent won't have a moster on the field. Things like Noblemen of Crossout and Tribute to the doomed are obviously to keep monsters off of the field but I usally don't need them.

Basically summon out three bone towers (easy to do for zombies) and special summon as many other zombies as you can.. destroying them when you need room with cards like DDV, Assault on GHQ and Mystik wok. Monster gate works too but I hate getting rid of those magic cards I need. Anyways.. hope that helps.

It doesn't appear that anyone mentioned any of the new popular deck themes; Zombie Chaos, Tsukuyomi Lock, Soul Control, and Spellcaster Control.

Zombie Chaos is pretty straight forward, and self-explanatory. Have a Zombie deck with enough Lights to run BLS.

Soul Control is also fairly straight forward. Run Soul Exchange with tribute monsters that don't need to attack to be useful.
