Hell yeah I'm coming home!

I've been waiting for this to go up all day - anyways, for all of you who've been complaining that there isn't an SJC in the New York area, well, guess what.

You get the 75th Anniversary SJC, which I've been saving for you.

It's a lot of trouble getting events this size set up near NY, so I'm counting on you to not prove me wrong. I think this can be the biggest event ever. I think it can top Los Angeles.

We'll have more details soon - including the special, 75th anniversary event tournament structure, prizing, and side events. For now, keep April 24th -25th open on your calendars, and start figuring out how you're going to get here.

OK now I've explained the round format for this SJC several times, and yet people are still confused. I think because they are not reading what I wrote on the subject. Instead, they are reading/listening to what people who have read/heard something from someone who is not me has written/said on the subject, and they are running about and spreading it to other people.

Trying to explain this is like that scene in Monty Python's "Holy Grail" where the guy is trying to get the guards to stay with the prince, and they just don't get it and keep trying to follow him.
:<

ANYWAYS

ONE

MORE

TIME
Let's have another go

at explaining

:eek:THE FORMAT FOR THE 75TH SJC:eek:

this is the new and improved version, based on the sheer inability of so many people to understand what I wrote before. It will go up in the FAQ. If you guys can't figure it out from this, I'll give up and admit defeat.

As we are expecting a high turnout for this event, the 75th SHONEN JUMP Championship – Edison, NJ will be run using a special format.

Saturday, April 24th – Day 1:
SHONEN JUMP Championship Duelists will play 8 rounds of Swiss. If there are any rounds remaining in the tournament, all Duelists with a record of at least 6 wins and 2 losses, or the top-ranked 128 Duelists at the end of these 8 rounds (whichever number of Duelists is higher), will qualify to return to complete those rounds in the SHONEN JUMP Championship main tournament on Day 2.

Sunday, April 25th—Day 2:
All qualifying Duelists (X-2 or higher, or the Top 128, whichever is more) will return to play out the remaining rounds of Swiss, based on the original enrollment of the tournament as described below.
Players will continue on Day 2 with their previous records and Decks – these rounds will not be treated as a new tournament.
When all remaining Swiss rounds have been played out, a Top 32 cut will be selected based on final standings.

These 32 players will then play off in Single Elimination to determine a winner.

• 129 – 256 Players: 8 Rounds of Swiss (8 rounds on Day 1, cut to Top 32 on Day 2)
• 257 – 512 Players: 9 Rounds of Swiss (8 rounds on Day 1, 1 round on Day 2, cut to Top 32)
• 513 – 1024 Players : 10 Rounds of Swiss (8 rounds on Day 1, 2 rounds on Day 2, cut to Top 32)
• 1025 - 2048 Players: 11 Rounds of Swiss (8 rounds on Day 1, 3 rounds on Day 2, cut to Top 32)
• 2049+ Players: 12 Rounds of Swiss (8 rounds on Day 1, 4 rounds on Day 2, cut to Top 32)

Duelists should take this schedule and format into account when planning their travel for this event.

This is arguably the best news I've read all day. That definitely made my day, time to start saving up and make travel plans. Also it seems Julia forgot to make note that this will be the first SJC under the new ban list unless there's one planned for March? Can't wait for April to come around looking forward to this one certainly. :D

NJ Transit website has bus schedules, etc.

It was very difficult to find a venue of the right size at the right time at the right price. A lot of people worked hard to make this event happen, so I expect to see every Yu-Gi-Oh! player in the tri state area here, to help me prove it was worth it.

Dude, we've gotta do some major prep. lol

Julia, Konami OP staff. You have no idea how much this means to players like us here in NJ. We owe you a debt we can never repay. Say the event does become larger than SJC LA. Will the event be split into 2 smaller pools or will it remain a giant event?

We haven't announced details about the event such as tournament structure. Stay tuned to www.yugioh-card.com for updates. Julia does a great job putting together these SJC FAQs. All your questions will be answered once the FAQ goes up. Don't expect the FAQ to go before Nashville. Our main focus right now is the next SJC.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if this went over 2000 people considering SJC LA. I know tons of people who have just been itching for a good ol' East Coast Jump. I'd be really surprised if there were under 1500.

I seriously believe if the cards r placed right and people really all make the initative to go to this like they did LA, this will break over 1800 people easily, maybe even 2000 people. Our regionals in this northeast area ALONE get over 350 people as is. And thats like one area without all the rest going. (Penn regional didnt get many NE players at all at that). NE and northeast alone will produce over 900 people easily...lets double that!

Julia thank you for finally getting a shonen jump in mine and kris ferber's back yard lmao!

I'd like to personally thank you for finally giving the North East what they've wanted for a while now. I'm almost 100% sure I know where this will be held, but I'll keep my mouth shut. The only thing that is discouraging is that the north east is simply getting one large event while the rest of the nation is getting jumps constantly (or as constantly as Konami has jumps). Just because this is a huge step forward, doesn't mean the north east will get events as much as other areas in the future.

I hope this is some kind of test that the north east needs to prove to have jumps and major events more often around here.

you have trainstations in Metuchen, Woodbridge, and MetroPark that are the closest ones. From those stations, you are looking at also paying 14-18 bucks for a cab.

there is no edison airport. Newark is the closest and easiest airport. jfk and lga are pretty far. if you need taxi service, use Woodbridge Checker (phone number will be posted a week before jump).

I live like 5-10 mins from here, should be fun!!!

Balance the cost of flight against cost of getting to Edison.

I kind of never like to fly into Newark if I can help it, but that's my own personal bias. Sorry Newark :<

Julia, I was that really tall person with like the 3 dark ends that kept asking to use your screw driver lol in LA in case u remember.

Listen we are freaking out here its been years for us really and even Philidelphia was quite a drive. We're going to have probably about 50 people staying in mine and kris ferber's area the night before for parties just because this is literally a 2 hour drive on one road thats it. Lol. I can promise its easily breaking 1500. NE events have been having trouble holding everyone and to my knoledge there was A LOT (100+ maybe) that got rejected at a recent regional due to space. I predict that the NE area ALONE will really produce anywhere from 700-900 people easily. Thats not even including all parts of NY which can make this easily. This will shatter 1800 easily and maybe even 2000. Its going to be insane and its the most fitting place for the 75th shonen jump championship!!!!!

You could actually count it as both - technically, SJC Houston 2008 was never supposed to happen.

I know you're asking to find out if there's one on for March.

Our team hasn't scheduled an SJC for March, so enjoy spring break (if you have it, when you have it).

Lmao you're gonna be needing to bring a lot more than a screwdriver to this. Try bringing a bag of popcorn and sitback and watch as New England's Finest places multipule people in Day 2 again, and keep the gold right in the area where it belongs! In Los Angeles we placed two members (Dan Rose and Kris ferber) in the top. You bounty'd another one of our team members Will Read. The impact we're going to make in NJ will be much bigger than the impact we made in LA. Thats why we're so excited because its finally our home turf so to speak!

Newark is a good airport to fly into. From there, you can take a shuttle to the NJT Northeast corridor line and get off at the Edison, Metropark, or Metechen stops. Link (http://www.njtransit.com/rg/rg_servlet.srv?hdnPageAction=AirportConnectionsTo)

I'm probably going to this. I think my semester will be done by then.

It helps if I know your name - it's going to be very hard to choose people when I'm looking out on a crowd of 1800 players. Lately I've been relying very heavily on the All Players List to help me make my selections. I guess I could get on the mike and say "OH AND THAT GUY OVER THERE WITH THE ULTIMATE TYRANNO HAT" but you'd really be surprised how hard it is to notice anyone in a really, really big event.

LOL...I still beat you with Ojama's during DSF format but here to hoping we make it to the top!

When you get a hotel, I want you're opinion on my deck before we go in for day 1, if not i'll scramble and make something in 10 minutes again >_>

i predict 1200 for this event

not much like the LA championship

You're kidding right? This will be packed like LA, Everyone from NE is itching to get some competitive play in, I Know I have...I'm driving to NY next week, then to Maine the week after...we don't get much but it's just knowing a large Tourny will get people wanting to go. NY alone can bring 100-200 from each part easy just like Aresstar5 said...there are also the the west coast and foreigners, easy 1800

Oh we're getting a new prize card right? Something WORTH playing for?

You can't join the jump day2 (you have to qualify in Day1) but you can come and play in side events in day2 which is fun and you can get points towards the side event prize card.

I think this will be bigger then costa mesa (1250+), but I don't think it can break LA. You just can't beat caly sized jumps. LA had nothing special about it and it broke the world record.

The SHONEN JUMP Championship consists of the Main Event and different Side Events. You do not need to participate in the Main Event in order to enjoy the weekend. There will be plenty of Side Events going on both Saturday and Sunday, each with different start times. You are more than welcome to show up on Sunday and participate in one or more Side Events. As far as the Main Event goes, you will have to participate on Saturday in order to be invited back to participate in the Main Event on Sunday.

Actually, you can beat them. If you run the numbers on previous attendances at JUMPs, the average for California is 656 attendees, while the average for the tri-state area (Philly, Jersey, and Columbus) is 663.

LA was special, too! It had the videogame previews and the debut of Turbo Pack 2.

The East Coast is much more densly populated than the west coast. We have a lot more people concentrated into a small amount of space, moreso than the California, Texas(this can be argued) etc,. This could easily get 1600 due to the fact that is not too far for anyone on the East Coast along the shore line. North US Yu-Gi-Oh has a lot of people we just had the largest regional (philly) so. Its up in the air

Don;t really care about grammar, tired from snow.

the raritan center expo center holds ALOT of people and there are conventions there all the time.

in the area, right in raritan center, you have a holiday inn, hilton garden, sheraton, and an extended stay. within a 5-10 min driving distance, you also have a marriot, hampton inn, homestead estates, and a few truck stop motels i forgot the names of.

hopefully drastic changes to the banned/restricted list make this jump interesting.

most regionals can't allow more than 2XX because of fire safety policies so it does depend of the place...but considering all the mid-atlantic,new england, west coast, AND foreigner this is going to be pretty big

I'd suggest you get a hotel. The rates are not too bad in the area, and these events can go until late in the evening. You are going to be very tired, and I don't really like late night public transportation.

Plus, what if you make Day 2, then a travel delay knocks you out of the top 16 playoff?

For everyone flying into Newark Airport for the jump.

You can hop on the train at the station there, get a ticket for Metuchen Station. Once you get there, wait for the 813 bus. It'll take you straight to FIELDCREST AVE. & NORTHFIELD AVE. After that walk about a mile down the road and you're there.

There's a bunch of hotels there, as already stated.

The Airport in Newark has a monorail that goes to the train station. That station will bring you to Metuchen train station. Then you wait for the above bus.

DO NOT GO TO THE EDISON TRAIN STATION. You will be even FARTHER away then you want to be.

I'm sure there's a taxi or something from Newark, but it'd cost FAR more.

I am pretty sure that Julia has already told us in the thread that with this Venue, they've selected more space than any other Shonen. I'm not sure though. (Julia you can correct me if I am wrong please:P)

And 13 or 14 Rounds would be crazy. We all know its going to be packed. They way it is going to look though, we may even have to wait until Day 2 for the last of the Swiss Rounds. This should be useful...

To anyone flying in to Newark, NJ you're going to be flying into the Tri-State area, please don't do crazy things on the airplane or in the airports cause they'll keep you in security for a long time. Tri-State is on especially high alert for the past couple of months/years, so just be careful about how you conduct yourself coming in.

Unless you like being held at the security gate...

I'm going to be testing like five decks so I can find one the works. I want to do plants, blackwings, machine, exodia and one more I can't think of at this time.

So I'm guessing Newark is also the cheapest?

That actually depends on the airline.
Sometimes it is, sometimes the other two are cheaper.
However, you can lose the appeal of a lower priced flight if you have a lot more time and money in the commute to the venue, so keep that in mind as you are booking your flight.

I would absolutely NOT recommend that anyone fly out of LGA or JFK, if they want to leave on Sunday and still participate in the events. It will take you a long time to get to the airport, and you will need to be there 2 to 1 1/2 hours early.

Additional Comment:

This should be useful...

To anyone flying in to Newark, NJ you're going to be flying into the Tri-State area, please don't do crazy things on the airplane or in the airports cause they'll keep you in security for a long time. Tri-State is on especially high alert for the past couple of months/years, so just be careful about how you conduct yourself coming in.

Unless you like being held at the security gate...

This is doubly true if you are coming in as a judge @_@

How does Konami prepare for an event of 2000+ people, and how many rounds will that be? Also, will there be more than 32 invites for a tournament of this magnitude?

We are not sure how many Round it will be. Maybe 11-14, but we aren't sure. Also, in the SHONEN JUMP Championships, there are only 16 Invites, given to the Top 16, not 32.

513-1024 is 10 rounds

1025 - 2048 is 11 rounds

2049+ is 12 rounds

it cuts to top 16... idk about invites.

You'd need over 8,000 players to go to 14 rounds of Swiss. So no, we will not have a 14 round tournament.

This question probably would best be directed to Julia or someone from KDE I guess. It seems like the 75th SJC is going to have a rather huge turnout lets say for some reason this is even bigger then SJC LA was and we get 12 rounds will all those rounds been done on Day 1? Or will it be split in similar fashion to the way it was in SJC LA?

The reason I'm asking is I'm about to finalize my plans as to weather to commute for the two days or stay in a hotel. Which would be recommended for someone that lives in the Manhattan New York? I figure if there's a lot of rounds there's a high possibility buses and trains will stop working after a certain hour and I would be stranded then. Anyway if this question can be answered it would be greatly appreciated want to finalize my plans. Looking forward to attending this event.

Just a quick note for Europeans flying over.

If your flight makes a stopover in ireland before corssing the atlantic, try and book flights that go out from Shannon Airport. At the moment they're the only airport in Europe that does pre-clearance for people flying to the US.

Newark, NJ airport is the closest one to the venue. If you fly in to JFK or La Guardia, be prepared for a long, expensive trip to the tournament.
Exactly how far is the venue from the airport in Newark anyways? Also what hotels are closest to the venue? I would prefer one within walking distance of the tournament.

If you go the way I listed earlier, with the train/bus, it'll take maybe 30-40 minutes to get to the venue.

There's a bunch of hotels in the area. I think the sheraton would be the closest.
Sheraton Link (http://www.starwoodhotels.com/sheraton/property/overview/index.html?propertyID=1137)

The bus is about a mile walk, the hotel maybe a little more.

Pro Tip:

There is a website called www.yugioh-card.com. It has a page called www.yugioh-card.com/en/events. On this page you'll find information on SJCs, Regionals, and so forth.

If you want to know if there is any info, that is the best place to look. :)

There's another website called www.google.com, it's got maps and things along with a search engine.

Seriously guys, you can find out the answers to a lot of these questions yourselves, if you don't want to wait for a FAQ.

I wouldn't want to commute back and forth that late at night. 8PM is my cutoff for public transportation, personally.

I really think they should try to do something with the 10th anniversary movie at this event.

I highly agree:)! I would be very interested in seeing that. Such as maybe a Sneek Preview of the Movie in English? Since I remember when the 1st Season of YU-GI-OH! 5D's was in Japan, KONAMI showed the first Episode of the Series in English at the Comi-Con. I wish they would show everyone the Anniversary Movie in English at the 75th SJC:P.
