A thread I saw in the Yugioh Gossip forum got me thinking:

Is anyone here currently in the military, retired from the military, or thinking about joining the military?

Why? What branch?

Ever since about 9th grade all I've known that I want to do is be a United States Marine. My grandfather was a Marine stationed at Pearl Harbor when it was attacked, which is pretty amazing. I have a lot of family in and retired from the military, all different branches, but neither parent. I've just always seen the Marines as the toughest and best you can be, besides the Navy SEALs, which I recently discovered members of any branch can become. I want to go in after I finish my degree, as a Second Lieutenant, maybe as a tank officer.

I was in the US Army. Injury caused me to get discharged. It would take atleast a year for the injury JUST to heal.

I am currently in the Air Force and I must say it is the best thing that has ever happened to me aside from my girlfriend. I have been in for about a year now and I have more to go. The Marine Corps is a great branch to look into. I highly respect every Marine, as my best friend is one. The Marines are well known for their strength, heart, and determination. I highly encourage anyone who is considering to join to look into all the branches. Dont make a choice without getting your facts straight. Talk to recruiters, look online, and if you know someone who is currently in the military, talk to them. They can give you the most current information about the military in general.

I've been looking into the marines.

During my junior year in high school I was approached by a recriuter and after talking, I was placed in the delayed entry program. After my graduation I went through the whole meps process and was sworn in and everything but I couldn't bring myself to leave my girlfriend at the time so I bailed on the marines and left town. I ended up getting the girl pregnant, and having a child with her. Unfortunately things didn't work out for us and among other things, my whole life started to crash down. I started looking into the military again last week because its my only out. So im going to take my ASVAB next week and with any luck ill ship out soon.

Problem is though, they told me I may not even be able to ship out until march and im feeling like I don't want to commit right now in october to leave in march because I hate to say it but im only looking at the marines as an out to my ****ty life. By march I may already be getting my life back on track and I don't wanna have to bail again

I think everyone physically and mentally capable should serve in the military at some point, because I think it's a great way to start life. You've got your first job (or first real job, in many cases), your housing and clothing and food and medical treatment are all paid for plus you're receiving income, and it helps people mature and discover what they want to do with the rest of their life.

That reminds me, what did everyone make on their ASVAB? I got a 90, and I'm still getting calls from recruiters of every branch! lol I know one of my cousins got a 94.
