Untapped Monsters

I recently bought the base set starter pack and read the rule book and it didn't make the ruling very clear for me.
The thing i am asking is if my monster can attack a untapped monster or do i go straight for a shield.

I know this sounds newbie-ish but thats what i am a complete beginer i didn't even watch the show lol

Well this belongs in Q and A but anyway...

If your monster is in the battle zone and is untapped you may do 1 of the following:
1. Attack a Shield (Even if there is monsters on your opponents Side of the Field)
2. Attack an opponents TAPPED creature.

Now when you summon the creature you cannot attack (Unless the Monster Has Rush Attacker) so you have "Summoning Sickness"

Now if you attack and your oppoenet has a "BLOCKER" in play he may choose to BLOCK your attack at either monster or shield and then your attacking monster and the creature your opponent chose to block with battle. If you win the blocker dies and your monster is TAPPED but your attack does NOT go through. If you lose your monster is dead and your opponents blocker is on the field TAPPED (Unless it has special untapping abilities).
