Yeah, but the ability to do so isn't unlocked until later in the game.

I hear you have to defeat the Elite four, plus champion to access it

And a whole bunch of other hoops to jump through. You have to get these ruby and sapphire plates. The ruby plate is relatively easy, just solve a braille message and pick it up. But Team Rocket steals the sapphire plate as soon as you find it. Then you have to go back to the island where Rocket HQ is, infiltrate their base and get it back from the Rocket scientist who stole it.

Oh great! Just what I wanted: Additional mazes to hunt through to find "the bad guy". Oh well, I guess the creators had no plans on making things easy

I'd rather have something insanely hard than easy... wouldnt you?

Insanely hard... but possible to be completed yes! Like on Ruby, when you chase Team Magma/Aqua to some cave underwater, there are boulders to move. The last set of boulders was VERY difficult for me to figure out. It took my about a day. That's the kinda of "hard" I like. I agree if some things in games were too easy, than it'd be boring

it only took me about 12 tries to beat them. (i'm not good at hard games, so this seems easy)however, it was fun and i like these kind of things that you can go at and it takes a while to get. though i wish you could initially trade. i just want to have a couple insanely hard portions in the game

I agree wholeheartedly! I want a game with challenge, but not too much challenge. Hah, I think I might get FireRed after all!

Well I'm good at hard games that require strategy tactics(Metal Gear Solid) but yes, it would've been nice if we didn't have to complete some maze to trade pokemon. Or they could've been like G/S/C. I think I remember in G/S/C, once you got your pokedex, the time machine to trade with R/B/Y was fixed

no, the trading machine was fixed. the time machine wasn't fixed until you got to ecruteak
i think the hardest part in GSC was the ice cave. it took me over 4 months to get through. i can't even remember how long it took. all i remember is when i got thru i had a team of lv 80s

4 months!? Woah I would've gave up! I got through it in probably 15-25 minutes, thanks to my trusty strategy guide. Well at least some good came from your experiences in it: high level pokemon!

heheh... yeah. i breezed throught he game after that. actually, i did give up, and went back about once a week, then came out after an hour of frustration. i just couldn't get past that first maze.i tried all alternatives. i even looked at the map very hard and tried to come up through mountain pass(it didn't work) finally i decided i would go in nad not come out until i was in black thorn, so i went in and stayed there all night playing. it took me about 2 hours of sliding to get past the first maze, and 1 hour to get past the other stuff

Too bad you didn't have a strategy guide that shows you how to get passed it... reminds me of a game that was so difficult for me to complete a certain part, that I just stopped playing for a year, then decided one day to try again and ended up completing the game... well very frustrating, but at least it helped with the Elite Four plus champion

i don't like using strategy guides that give you walk throughs. i like the pokedex section but not the walthrough. i just think it takes the fun out of the game. exept in that situation. i would have liked a guide through that. thankfully, i am now a competent icemaze solver! :)

I used a strategy guide for almost every pokemon game. I don't plan on using one for my Fire Red game(really what's the point) But yeah, in that situation you were in, a strategy guide sure would've came in handy

Haha Yes, the ice cave was a challenge for me also...so many Delibirds...
-shakes head in disgust- Hopefully this will be the last generation of pokemon for gameboy. Atleast right now that have it where you can get all 386, and they should leave it at that.

Yeah, I was thinking this also... if Nintendo makes a next series... hopefully it will be that you can travel from Kanto to Johto to Hoenn (hopefully)lol

Yeah, because in FR/LG, the Johto starters are unobtainable. Then, and OLNY then, will we have all 386 Pokémon!

Can you get the GSC starters through Colosseum? I don't know, I don't have Colosseum.
