Spellbinder + Savage Beating

Find something that can get through every time (think something whispersilk cloaked, perhaps), throw on the spellbinder with a savage beating, and take infinite combat steps every time you hit.

Game.

LoL. Holy <pojo ownz><pojo ownz><pojo ownz><pojo ownz>. That is a very nice combo. I don't see any flaws in it. Does anybody else? I need to get me one of those Spellbinders. I pulled a Savage Beating in a Draft the Friday before last.

especially when you only have to pay the entwine once since it says until end of turn or in all honesty if you get an attack through I guess you really don't need the doublestrike. for this combo I'm thinking neurok spys or like a blistering firecat.

Firecat just get's blocked and dies unless they are tapped out, and neurok spy is inferior to the little elf dude than makes your critters unblockable so long as they have an artifact land.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you "The Flame"

We had a huge problem with spam on the last boards, let's not start that again. There was nothing intentionally derogatory about my post responding to yours, and I apologize if my critisism of your suggestion seemed callous. There was, however, no reason for you to retort in such an insulting manner. I would like to know what promted such a response, and if you could explain your logic as to your disagreement with the content of my post, I would appreciate it.

Thank you.

I had already started my post and since this place doesn't give you the option of deleting a post I was going out the door and simply stated that I couldn't explain it at the time so I fixxed my post to where it acually made sense instead of a half finished post that would just have caused more spam so yeah thats about it.

basically I saw the tangle walker and really wasnt all that impressed that it was uncommon with what I saw sure it makes your creatures unblockable but they need to have an artifact land and a tangle walker based deck would seriously have problems against certain builds but using a blue deck that had a cheap little creature with a little more wide based unblockablility would be a little more stable since blue has that thing that can make anything an artifact until end of turn where as green would use the landshaper a piddly 1/1 with very little uses if the deck your against already has artifact lands it would be a wasted draw a wasted play.

and the blistering just because hey attack with a 2/2 LoL with a spellbinder imprinting savage beating makes a 7/1 a very big target so the 2 toughness would be just as good as the elf and the trample makes it really useful with the doublestrike all you have to do is get an inicial attack through but since your spell doesn't cast until you have dealt dmg a simple block would kill it. I was just saying it made the firecat better than what it was already, a very good creature worthy of any type II sped red deck.

If you are going to go after someone for spam go talk to primus I mean you must have issues or something if my post started something like this.

and whats the deal with quoting everything someone says to me thats worse than any spam I've had to read on this forum.

At this point, I've seen the Spellbinder + Savage Beating combo posted on no less than six boards since before Darksteel was even released.

Powerful?... Yes, but for the mana it would take to execute it in a single turn (seven), it SHOULD win you the game.

I've said it before, so saying it again won't kill me : This block is ALL about artifacts, either using them or destroying them. Playing a piece of equipment that slow means you only give your opponent more time to draw what they need to deal with it.

It will break stalemates if games come to it, but won't make a tremendous impact on the format.

Turn 2 land, tap lands, play Metathran Soldier (http://www.wizards.com/magic/autocard.asp?name=metaThran+soldier)
Turn 3 land, tap lands, play Spellbinder (http://www.wizards.com/magic/autocard.asp?name=Spellbinder) imprinting Savage Beating (http://www.wizards.com/magic/autocard.asp?name=Savage+Beating)
Turn 4 land, equip Spellbinder to Mr. Unblockable, and beat the **** you of you opponent by attaching 20+ times with him

And your opponent has two turns to deal with a 1/1.

Again, I'm of the opinion that if they couldn't, they deserve to lose.

[edit: not even mentioning you assume you will be able to cast all those spells against a control deck.]

Well if we took into account all the mass counterspells flying around in T1.5/T1, we wouldn't be able to plan out combo's like that at all, now would we?

As explained in CotD, you really need seven untaped mana in one turn as everyone is going to destroy the Spellbinder. If you haven't done much until turn 7, they're gonna get suspicous and hold back that Naturalize so they can destroy it when it comes out. Maybe Abunas, but you'd have to keep that safe.

Even though I hate it myself, it doesn't matter whether this has been posted on the other boards. I'm not supposed to delete it. So just leave it alone.
