Okay, I was out for a long time...and i recently found all my magic cards(had long since sold my yugioh cards..but i had a good deck) and now i'm stuck with the decision to play magic or yugioh. Help :(

Is yugioh still a rich mans game? Would it be hard to catch up with the tournament scene? are the older sets/cards outclassed now?

Play Yu-Gi-Oh! Do it for the sake of playing a great game. Magic can go on forever, but Yu-Gi-Oh! is something of a childhood treasure and friendly competition comes out of it

In some ways, you have to spend money to win. But it's definitely not a rich man's game. There are ways to get what you need for cheap if you look in all the right places (eBay, trading, and here on Pojo),

It is not at all difficult to get into a local tournament scene, but as far as higher up tournament play, you'll be facing off with more expensive decks. My advice is to take it slow, many old cards are coming back into play to splash in with the newest top decks out there.

You can't really compare the games with each other, the mechanics are very different. If you enjoy a slower game, where you have to think a lot about which card you're going to play, play Magic. If you want a faster game, where you mostly need to know what cards are popular right now to know what to expect from the opponent, so that you know how safe certain moves are, play Yu-Gi-Oh!

They can't really be compared other than in Magic, it's slow, and YuGiOh is much more flexible and your decisions affect the outcome more.

YuGiOh is not nearly the rich man's game it was in the Tele-DAD format, or the Chaos Era, either. It's MUCH more affordable now. Games in the last format, with DSF and the like, lasted under 5 turns usually, with Blackwings and such. But now with DSF banned and Gale limited, games are much slower and strategic.

Play YuGiOh. I would say that art is much more enjoyable, the game is infinitely more flexible, and you don't need as many cards to play. Hell,I'm on a budget and I've been working on my Pokemon deck for two months, though I'll be done with it (save a few filler cards) in a few days. Plus, a lot of competitive Magic players are... Well... Not as lovely to look at from what I've regrettingly seen. Plus, more kids play YuGiOh, giving it a funner atmosphere and giving you people to teach, and I consider teaching people and giving them cards to be the funnest thing you can do in a game.

As for older sets, people still use cards from all over the timeline. The advent of Synchro monsters can be troubling because you need to build an Extra Deck, but just go with a solid deck like Macro Cosmos, or one that doesn't use Synchros, like Ojamas, and you'll be fine. I have an article in the tips section that can help people make their Extra

You can quit YuGiOh, but... You will come crawling back.

Magic is best if money is a problem. Its also extremely balanced and has a fantastic banned list compared to yugiohs trash one.

YGO is better if you want a fast-paced strategy, but with little thought needed. If you want to play competitively you will NEED money for stuff like LS and such.

Magic is better for slow-paced, tactical game that requires skill. Decks are pretty cheap compared to YGO too.
