I've been thinking about this for a long while now. Does anyone remember the rumour "There's not a witch or wizard who went bad that wasn't in Slytherin"?
I think it's a rumour proven false in Peter Pettigrew (this is just speculation, cause I haven't found any hardcore evidence yet. . . yet) From what I can figure Pettigrew was most likely a Gryffindor, and even if he wasn't I'm pretty sure he wasn't Slytherin. Think about it. His 3 best friends in school were all Gryffindors, and Gryffindor and Slytherin students have never gotten along all that well. I find it hard to believe that a Slytherin would just start hanging out with 3 Gryffindors like that. Maybe a Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw, but not a Slytherin. I know that it was said in book 3 that Pettigrew always liked to hang around strong people so he could hide behind them (which is true), and granted James and Sirius were both very strong, and so was Remus, but what about the Slytherins of that day? Lucious Malfoy, for instance was probably pretty strong too. So if Pettigrew was a Slytherin, why would he hang out with Gryffindors rather that his own housemates, like Malfoy?
Like I said, I personally think he was most likely a Gryffindor, although why the sorting hat would put him there is beyond me, seeing as he's a cowardand Gryffindor is known for it's courage (sometimes called foolish fearlessness). But anywho, any other thoughts? Or hard evidence from the books to back me up or shut me up?
