Ok this has been irritating me for a while... Why do dual lands have prices that are less than $12 on online pricing sites and when you go to a card store (or from what I have seen) they are higher than $20... It just irritates me and some people tell me that lands take up 50% of the price of the deck and it hard to figure that out...
Simply: why do sites give cards a cheaper price than you find in a store?

Because, well... the stores have to make money somehow.
Yeah, $10-$12 seems pretty accurate right now, but they'll increase, I'm sure.

Well some stores try to rip you (this sounds like on of them) but most stores still sell things for slightly more because they can't buy the same bulk as an online distributor so they have less product meaning smaller profit.
Also online distributors charge shipping, and it takes time to get their stuff.

it hate marketing bs... heck one store that I was at was buying Maelstorm pulse for 17 and selling it for 25... and the 17 was only store credit

That's how the store makes a profit and stays in business. That they offer anything for credit is a blessing one way or another; you should be grateful.

I would say have a smaller range than 8 dollars.

You have to make money man, it might not be fair but that's the way it is.

Card games are not cheap. Magic is no exception. Accept it or don't play. That's all there is to it.
Shops do what they have to do to stay alive. That's part of the business.

That's pretty good, actually. My local does the same for $15. Hey, they DO have to make a profit.

Depends on the store. My local shop will buy a Pulse for $9, sell it at $17.50. The store 5 minutes away though was only willing to give me $5 for the Pulse while they already had 2 in the case at $25 each. Some stores know how to set good prices while others just want to be greedy and get all they can. It backfires in most cases though, hence my store gets 50+ people for FNM every week while the other has canceled FNM all together due to low attendance ^_^

Um, what Dual lands and pricing guide are you talking about? I doubt you will find true Dual Lands for less than $20 anywhere

I doubt any of the new ones are over $20. You should be more specific on which 'dual' lands you are referring to.

any of them really... well excluding the pain since they have been remade many times.

That sounds like a particularly expensive shop you've got there, then, none of the M10 duals are worth $20 ANYWHERE. Somewhere between $10 and $15 seems right.
Onslaught Fetches, Ravnica Shocks and the original Duals are the most valuable cycles.
Outta curiosity, I checked the buy & sell prices for Maelstrom Pulse on a couple of sites. Cool Stuff buys for $14 and sells for $24. Troll & Toad aren't looking for Pulse, and Starcity's buy list is down. So, far from conclusive, but that gap seems normal.

Well I haven't seen the price of the new M10 (I was going to assume it would be like that)... If I get my may tomarrow then I might get a chance to see how much they are selling...
I will tell you when I see them but I thought they would be pricey since they are new.

i know that card stores sell for higher than online because they also bills to pay. but selling for 12 more than the prices online is just outragous
