This is my first crack at this report thing, so bear with me. Also, details got worse and worse as the event went on. After technical difficulties, the time that I had been travelling or playing Yugioh was about 16 straight hours. I live about an hour south of Wilson, so I left about 7:40, got there a little after 9 (stopped for some McD's). Registered, met up with the team, borrowed an Armor Master and Armed Wing. At gboro I ran PC synchro and went 4-4...I decided to put together a Blackwing deck, and this was my first crack at running this.

Round 1--Larry Barnes--Blackwing

Game 1--Had a mirror match round 1, which concerned me. He won the roll and opened game 1. He summoned a Bora and set 2 to the backrow. My turn I play trunade, he Solemns. I summon Bora or Shura, he bottomlesses it. Next turn He summons Gale, hits with both Gale and Bora, syncs into DSF and passes. I normal Summon Sirroco, attack DSF, pitch Kalut, which puts him down to 3200. He gets nothing on his draw, I Summon Blizzard, play Dark Eruption and get Kalut. I attack with Blizzard and discard 2 Kaluts for game.

Game 2--He sets one backrow and passes. I summon a Gale and attack, dropping him to 6700. His turn he summons gale, halves mine, and attacks, dropping me to 7350. He synch's Armor Master I think and I bottomless. Next turn I attack with Kalut. He's at 5300. I try some special summons and he oppressions me (sided), leaves me with no options and he gets more monsters than I do and maintains field advantage.

Game 3--He summons a Bora I think. My turn I summon sirocco, activate his effect, and do 2000 damage. He's at 6000. He summons gale, halves sirocco, and attacks. I brain control, attack with gale and bora and synch, he bottomlesses. he plays reborn, i solemn. Somehow, I get out a Stardust and my original Bora and attack for game.

1-0

Round 2--Maximus--Kitty Synchro
Maximus is a great guy and a good friend of the team. Also a great duelist. Wasn't looking forward to this matchup.

Game 1--I set a few to the backrow, his turn I solemn a heavy. Bottomless when he kitty-->2 airbellums. Since he still has monk out, I SS Cydra, normal summon gale, halve monk, attack with gale and directly with cydra. he sets a couple. My turn I summon, he torrentials, I solemn, putting me to 2000. I tribute cydra for sirocco and attack with sirocco and gale. next turn he rescue cats into panther and airbellum, gets goyo, drops DAD for game.

Game 2--I open with a hand of shura, 2x bora, black whirlwind, and a blizzard. He crushes sangan on me , hitting everything but blizzard. I summon blizzard-->goyo after his special summon, Maximus oppressions it. I'm topdecking under CCV while he's killing me with an X-saber and gale and pecks away before i get out from under crush.

1-1

Round 3--Alex Archibeque--Blackwings
Another mirror match...pretty much happened all day.

Game 1--I set a monster and solemn. Then he sets a couple, I tribute for sirocco and he torrentials, i solemn. I special summon a bora and 2 gales, pump bora, run over his facedown. Synch a thought ruler and dsf-->launch for game.

Game 2--After a couple turns, he hits me directly with gale and blizzard. I get armed wing and attack over his gale. He goes for an armed wing, I solemn. I attack him with armed wing. he drops a brain control and i have nothing, he swarms and attacks.

Game 3--he hits me with armed wing and kalut turn 2. I swarm and synch and he has no backrow. I end up dropping goyo and DAD on him. He summons a few BWs, halfs my guys with gale and attacks over them. I summon shura, attack over gale, and discard 2 kaluts for game.

2-1

Round 4--Thomas Volpi--Lightsworn
This sucks. Volpi and I have known each other for years. He and I played every week back in my hometown (don't think I've played there in the last 3 years due to law school, but we've seen each other around regionals and sneaks). What's up with me getting paired with guys I know?

Game 1--He opens, Charge into Lumina into Garoth, end phase mills a necro and 2 wulfs...I have 2 roars and a gale, I summon gale, half a wulf, attack it, set threatening and pass. He summons, I chain roar. I half the other wulf, he necros an attack, i set my other roar. He summons, tries to attack, I chain roar. Next turn I half the Lumina and try to attack it. Long story short that opening turn killed me. he kept up field presence and I just didn't draw any outs.

Game 2--I get an early swarm, He ends up dropping JD and blowing up the field after I had him down to like 1500, so he's at 500 now. My turn I play brain control, blow up the field, and attack for game. First time I've won a game with JD! (Just playing, Volpi)

Game 3--I do no damage. God mills and JD pwnage.

2-2, and I know I need to string some wins together. I told Volpi to keep winning for my tiebreaker, and he didn't disappoint. Volpi went 7-1 and t8'd. Great job man.

After the fourth round, I found out my round 2 loss, Maximus, which I assumed would be a great tiebreaker dropped at 2-1. Sucks.

Round 5--James Bowlin--Blackwings
this is where my notes get a little worse. One long cossy delay and a lunch break had drawn the day out already.

Game 1--I hit him with Bora. He summons gale, halves Bora and attacks over him. Next turn I brain control his gale and attack directly. Special summon a few, and synchro. I end up winning this game with 4000 lp left.

Game 2--I set a few to the back row and summon one. He cold waves, I solemn. He hits me with shura. I end up getting rid of shura and popping him with a gale a couple times. He summons bora (I believe we were topdecking at this point) and i solemned since he had no hand. but he ended up topdecking a monster and running over my gale and i didn't draw any outs.

Game 3--he hits me with sirocco a couple times for 2000 each. I swarm, attack, and dsf for game.

3-2 so far. I know I need at least 2 more wins to get an invite.

Round 6--Chris Walters--Kitty Synchro
By far my worst matchup of the day.

Game 1--I pop him with a Bora and an Armed wing over the first couple turns...but he ends up going monk into monk into cat into 2 airbellums and double dsf'ing me for game.

Game 2--I swarm and pop a couple bottomlesses that really hurt him (remove 2 airbellums). Maintain field presence and pull out the win.

Game 3--I solemn a dark strike and peck a couple times at his lp...but a couple of big synchros later he wins.

3-3 and figure if i don't win out i don't get a chance at a nats invite.

Round 7--Desean Hodge--Morphotronics
This guy just beat my teammate Dudley (gentleyami) the previous round. There was a LONG delay...maybe 40 minutes? before this round b/c cossy messed up AGAIN.

Game 1--I didn't take damage either game. He was basically getting unlucky with celfon, leaving a 100 attack floater out in attack position. I just do massive damage game 1 after a big swarm.

Game 2--he summons celfon, rolls a 5, and gets nothing but traps and spells. he passes without a backrow. I normal summon sirocco, special summon bora, and special summon 2 gales. half celfon so he's at 50 in attack mode. Attack for 6250 damage. Main phase 2, synch up sirocco and gale for stardust dragon and synch up bora and gale for dark strike fighter and launch stardust, then dsf for game.

4-3 After round 7 I was ranked 41st. A win in the last round would get me an invite.

Round 8--Ben Walker--Blackwings
4th blackwing matchup of the day, but at this point i was 3-0 in the mirror. I figure my blackwing deck is better than everybody elses, haha.

Game 1--my notes are bad here. It was late in the day and I was sore and dehydrated. I hit him with blizzard, end up synching into goyo and I solemn twice in 2 turns, which keeps his field open. Smash with goyo for game

Game 2--I peck away at his lp for a few turns. He didn't draw any monsters really, so it made it easy.

5-3.

In the end I placed 26th and got my invite. Although waiting for them to get the t8 decklists ready and figure out whose invites would pass down and who got them took forever. I ended up leaving around quarter after 10 (left my house at 740 am). I don't hit big events too often, but I enjoyed this one and got my first invite.

Pros:
-Got my invite with a deck I had never run before.
-My man volpi going 7-1 and making t8
-Food and energy drinks on hand in the mall
-Space to lay my mat out without overlapping with other guys (I'm looking at you gboro)
-Going 4-0 against the mirror match
-Good trades
-GREAT tiebreakers

Cons:
-like 3 major delays
-going 0-2 against kitty synchro
-16 hour day

Overall I think this was a great regional, though. I hope The Hobby Shop runs more regionals in the future.

Every time I got him out, he got bottomless'd! It was crazy. But I really appreciate you loaning me the Armor Master. I took good care of it. (The one I ordered on ebay got delivered the morning of the regional...but I was already there...That's my luck).

Oh, ok. That's cool. You've got to watch out for that Dark Gaia when playing Dudley. He tried tweaking his deck a little before the regionals and from what he was saying apparently it didn't work out so well.

Yeah, the mirror was tough all day, but looking at my notes it looks like those were the most back and forth games of the day in round 5 (mirror-wise).

I doubt I'll be hitting nats, unfortunately, Bar Exam is end of July, and I've got to focus on that.

Thanks on the congrats.

Thanks. I appreciate it. I don't get out to big events often (about 4 regionals and 2 sjc's in durham in the last like 3-4 years). So Gboro and Wilson back to back was crazy. Wilson was very well ran and I hope they do more in the future.

Good job on the invite.

During round 7, game 2, you know it wasn't necessary to synch into Stardust right? XD You would've done the same DSF damage regardless.

Thanks. But yeah, I think he may have had a backrow, so I went into stardust to prevent a bth or something and then into DSF. But I think it ended up being a bluff.
