I quit playing YGO around this time in 2007. I was bored with the game, so I sold almost all of my old cards. 2 years later, I want to play the game again. I've barely been following the game, so I'm not really sure about what's come out in the past two years. After a few days of looking through the forums, I've started to pick up on some stuff.
Anyway, I guess my first question to you guys is this: What should I start out buying? I don't really have a lot of extra cash at the moment. So are there any packs, decks, etc I should go with buying?
Also, what's the game like now a days? I've heard some about this UDE/Konami thing, but haven't really looked up much about it.
ygo tas rulz!

Buy Blackwings because they are a good cheap Deck. Rescue Cat Synchro isn't bad either

I've definitely seen Blackwing decks. And anything with Rescue Cat sounds fun. How does the Synchro stuff work? If I have a tuner and non-tuner monsters with levels equaling a Synchro Monster get tributed and I summon it from the Extra Deck, or whatever the fusion deck is called now?

Ya its extra deck and u have 1 tuner monster and 1 or more non tuners and they are sent to the grave(not tribute) and u bring out a synchro monster whose stars equal to the stars of the monsters sent. Also Blackwings and Synchro Cat are both cheap, fun, and competitive decks which wont be hard to get.

Blackwings sound good.
What would be the main sets to buy packs of for Blackwing stuff?

Buy an SE display (10 SE boxes) of this new set and the last set. That'll get you a lot of what you need.

however... the synchros needed for the BW deck (DSF and BW-AM) are somewhat pricey... but the rest of the deck (the actual deck) is relatively cheap and is mostly made of commons and rares...

yeah the syncros are about 15-20 a piece lol

And you can only have 15 in the extra deck too. You quit at about the same time I did, so you most likely didn't know this. Back in 07' my fusion deck towered both of my deck boxes. Even if it took me like 5 minutes to find my Cyber Twin... :p
Also, I gave this advice to another person who wants to come back. Wait till september. Between nats and the new banlist is never a good time to be blowing money on this game.

...Yeah, I probably won't be buying single cards for a while. <<; At least not ones that are 20 - 40 bucks a pop, and more.

Crimson Crisis for the first few commons and rares.
Raging Battle has the good stuff.
Your'e better off opening just like two crimson crisis packs for the commons and buying Gales individually for 3 or so each, they're a ***** to pull.

Alright, that sounds like it'd be a decent starting point. Should I look into getting any of this Gold Series 2? It seems like I have a chance of getting something good from it.

I'd say that GS2 would be a decent investment. However, it's $20 a pack for 22 commons and 3 golds (which most are playable).

Yowza. I didn't think they were that much.

Would investing into a case(box of 5 packs) of GS2 be a good idea?

you want back in the game, I'm getting rid of a couple decks.

Get a box of GS2. I've gotten nothing but Solemns and holo monarchs. That's for trade bait like Dark Armed Dragon/Solemns/Gold Sarcos, and then you can get staples like Giant Trunade or holo Sangans.

My advice to you is to go out and buy recent Tins and Special Edition packs ^_^
Especially the Yusei duelist tin. It's filled with lots of decent Synchros (you might even pull Stardust Dragon or Armory Arm) and Tuners and can really help you get the hang of things. It also has a pack of Duelist Genesis.

It would definitely help me in getting back into the game, but I just haven't got enough extra money to buy it. If you've still got the cards when I do have enough extra cash (Not sure when that'll be), then I'd definitely be interested.
As for the suggestions on what to buy: Thanks, I'll look into those.
Additional Comment:
Was this forum always here? If so, sorry for not noticing it before I posted.
Anyway, it looks like I'll be able to borrow a deck from my friend. Now I just need someone to practice with, possibly on YVD. If anyone would be willing to help me out, please let me know. Thanks.

Alright, I guess I'll start working on trying to build one of those decks. Until then, I'll just try working on the deck my friends let me use.
Additional Comment:
Assuming my friend is able to get the rest of the cards he needs, it looks like I'll be able to have a Blackwings deck to play. We played a quick game on YVD, and they were definitely fun. Heh.
Additional Comment:
If anyone would be willing to help me practice so I can get used to this deck against stuff like Glads and LS, please let me know.
Additional Comment:
Huh, I'm definitely having trouble with testing and what not. Could you guys suggest a deck I try testing and playing at the LCQs or Regional on Sunday of Nationals?

1. Blackwings or Synchro Cat.
2. For the decks above, just by the singles, or try the new RGBT spicial edition, you can get Allure Of Darknees or The Dark Creator in super rare.
3. Well, now we have like 4 top decks that just cannot decide who is best.
4. I think UDE's contract was over, and then they got konami after them by printing fake cards, I THINK.

Well, it would appear that, assuming I can get there, I'll be playing Blackwings in the LCQs. Unfortunately, the ride I was going to have will more than likely not be able to go now.
Additional Comment:
Why am I actually considering trying to go to Nationals and qualify in the LCQs? I haven't played in the past two years, and what testing I've done in the past couple weeks just proves I'm as awful as I was back then, if not worse due to the rust.

Are you sure you really want to test your skills at an LCQ? Locals might be your best bet so you can gear up for the 2010 season.

There are no locals around here. Closest one around here would be an hour away, assuming they still have tournaments/are open. And the closest regi to me is Pittsburgh. And the friends I have that still play the game are... you guess it, around Pittsburgh.

Nick... you are COMING BACK?? Fun fun! :D I missed not being able to play with you.
I finally got a hold of 3x Blast Spheres now and am thinking about running them in a dark machine deck. I also have Blackwings Synchros and other cards you could borrow if you were ever at a Regional/LCQ/local in the Pittsburgh area.
I always knew you would come back.... BWA-HA-HA-HA!! :p

Blackwings are good, Monarchs are too, cheap as well, or run Zombies and spellcasters, theyre making a comeback... Morphtronics could be effective, the way swarm, it's annoying

Hey, I know you! Hah
Yeah, I decided to come back. That's definitely cool that you're still running machines. how've they been doing for ya? And I've got a decklist. I'll try to get it to you sometime.
Are you planning on trying in the LCQs? Because if I come down for that weekend, it's likely I'll try to qualify.

Well, actually lately I've been running either Volcanics or Morphtronics (which are mostly Machines). Volcanics have been fickle to me and either I do really well with them or really horrible. I did create an awesome variation which could be the winning combination, but we shall see.
Morphtronics are loads of fun, but can be inconsistant. Once Ancient Prophecy comes out in two months, I want to make an X-Saber deck because Neo hand control will be awesome.
I don't know if I want to do the LCQs. I have to finish first (which I never do), so that means if I lose even one match I'm finished (Like Ricky Bobby says, "If you ain't FIRST, you're LAST!"). Plus I already shelled out $40 on two regionals where I performed mediocre (One was with Morphtronics 3-4, and the other was 4-4 with Volcanics).
I would jump aboard the bandwagon and play Blackwings, but everyone else is playing them, and it's boring for me to play a deck that everyone else is, too.
It's really cool to see you on here again. :D What have you been up to?

Not a whole lot. Tried to get a job, but Corry sucks. So I'm just trying to get stuff figured out so I can finish up with Penn State.
I was thinking about doing the LCQs, but I'm still not sure about that weekend. Don't have the best money situation without a job, and it doesn't seem too likely that I'd qualify in them. So I guess I'm just not sure what I'll be doing Nats weekend.
And if I tried, I'd probably be playing Blackwings. :p
