UPDATE (3): Check out the info on some of the Pojo Server Bots (http://www.pojo.biz/board/showpost.php?p=13840611&postcount=27) I've installed.

UPDATE (2): The Pojo Server is officially listed on the Shoddy server list (it's down there at the bottom). To connect, simply follow the two methods of connection (in orange text after the next paragraph). Have fun!

UPDATE: The server is temporarily operational. Some people have already tried connecting to it. There is a problem, however; you will not be able to connect unless my computer is functional. I am still trying to find out the solution to the problem, but for now, try logging in and battling by following a few steps. There are two ways of going about this:

-Method 1-
1. Open Shoddy.
2. In the list of servers, find "Pojo Server".
3. Connect. You're in; enjoy!

-Method 2-
1. Open Shoddy.
2. In the list of servers, click Advanced.
3. For Host, put 202.156.67.84
4. For Port, put 22222
5. Connect. You're in; enjoy!

EDIT: Upon inspection it seems that this idea has been proposed before. I suppose I'm reviving the idea a little. If responses are positive, I will be able to get this running in no time. Furthermore, the old thread lacked description.

This is only an idea.

The Pojo Pokemon Forums have traditionally exercised the application of the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection with which to trade and battle, and the Wifi connection itself has resulted in the naming of the forum Diamond, Pearl & Platinum Wi-Fi Battle Request Forum. While Wi-Fi trading and battling does provide the element of graphic and acoustic pleasure, it is not without limitations. Such limitations usually tend to hinder a skilled player from reaching his or her full potential, which is not essential in battling. Here are some of the flaws of engaging in competitive Pokemon-related activities (specifically battling) over Wifi:

Pokesav: I was (and still am, to some degree) an avid opponent of the program that many of us consider a godsend. Some people don't comfortable doing battle with "legit hacks", while some others don't care. There is bound to be minor dispute related to this issue at some point in your competitive battling career. Also, breeders and legitimate Pokemon trainers can argue that they are at a more disadvantageous position than Pokesavers. After all, if they can't get a WishBliss, why should Pokesavers be able to? Pokesav is related to the next issue:
Breeding: Let's face it - breeding is a waste of time. Its rewards are excellent, but brief. Soft-resetting for acceptable IVs is a tedious and boring process, made more so by the recent Platinum RNG breakthroughs, and that itself will take time to learn. You will be proud of yourself if you have bred something you know is a fine product, but how long will that happiness last?
"Event Clause": While Event Clause is unrecognized as a standard competitive battling clause, players may choose to enforce it. The purpose of Event Clause is to ban any "legit hacks" from having event moves so that players are unable to spam Leech Seed Vileplume, WishMence, and most notably, the legendary Pokemon that was previously mentioned, WishBliss. These factors bring me to the topic of my discussion - creating a Shoddybattle server for Pojo. If you don't know what Shoddy Battle is, I will quote its creators' definition:

Shoddy Battle is the most popular pokemon simulator, a program that allows you to play pokemon matches with other people over the internet.

In other words, you will be able to freely build teams, find battles, and build up your rating. By using Shoddybattle, the three aforementioned problems about Wifi battling are solved instantly. Firstly, Pokesav. By using Shoddy, you will be able to battle freely, so there is no nonsense about how players hack their Pokemon. Secondly, Breeding. Shoddy allows the customization of IVs, EVs, moves, and others, to be at your discretion. Finally, Event Clause. The previous logic was "If we (non-Pokesavers) can't get WishBlisseys, then why should you (Pokesavers) get her?". With Shoddy, the logic is now "Everyone can use WishBlisseys. Hooray!" On another note, some people who have recently discovered the wonders of Shoddy find that Shoddy is actually faster and better without the very annoying "The Sandstorm Rages!" text, followed by the buffetting of Pokemon, followed by Leftovers Recovery, messages that battlers find particularly annoying and time-consuming.

By using Shoddy, there will be no problems about inability to connect to Wifi when it is down, where you have no signal, etc. Also, with Pojo's own Shoddy Server, a path that can potentially lead to the development of related projects (eg. Pojo Tiers) will open up.

READ: This is simply an idea. If you find that a Pojo Shoddy Server will destroy the tradition and history of Wifi, please do not think that I am trying to eliminate this forum. I am making a suggestion; you do not need to battle on the server if you don't want to. There will be no rewards, no official purposes (yet), no issues you're missing out on - it's simply a server with which to battle and boast about your ranking. The benefits have been discussed in the previous paragraphs, so please don't start swearing and flaming if you didn't read everything in this post.

http://shoddybattle.com/downloads - Download Shoddy Battle
http://www.pojo.biz/board/showthread.php?t=714734 - Smogon and Shoddy Battle

I recommend that if you haven't already downloaded ShoddyBattle to try it out and experiment. Building a team is easy and can take less than 5 minutes if you have team members in mind. You will need the latest Java to use ShoddyBattle in order to have an error-free experience. Also note that many Smogon activities take place via Shoddy, so having a server of our own will be able to interpret Pojo as a competitive site as well.

If interest is expressed I will be able to design a Shoddy server with moderate ease; I have successfully managed to create one today, although it is simply an undecorated server not located in the main list of servers just yet. If you have any questions please post in this thread or PM me.

Sounds good, Doc. But meh- Good luck running this.

Hi Trent. Setting up a server is not difficult, and there's not really much need to "run" it, as people can freely come, build teams, battle, and go. Of course, moderators that maintain the chat and catch cheaters are required, but other than that, it's a simulator that's

free as in freedom.

Personally, im a massive fan of both wifi and shoddy.
My only concern with a Pojo server is the lack of active pojo competetive battlers.
How many shoddy battlers are expected to be on the server usually?
Otherwise, im all support for it Doc, ill happily be a mod as well :)

DanielSuperpoke thought of doing this as well but he found no one to run it. Since your offering to run it and you said in your post, it would be cool to have a Pojo Server imo.

We can battle, do Suspect battles as well, and other stuff if you can add that in.

Dr Is if you can set up a Pojo server that would be great, as we can set up our projects and even have live tournys. I normaly stick to the smaller servers like TU as Smogon Uni is too laggy for my comps ;_;.

I support the addition of a Shoddy server, although I doubt the longevity of it. Pojo is not the most competitive community out there, and only a select few of our members use Shoddy to begin with, as well as only a few having an interest in it, or knowledge of it to begin with.

In my case, I would use it but my computer is incapable of running Shoddy. Stupid Vista.

Anyway, most Pojo users seem to prefer Wifi, but with this we can at least say "to each his own," or even direct users to a place they can find an easy battle.

A minimum of two players would be required to be on a server at once in order to find a battle. Obviously, unless there are more people, you will be battling the same person over and over again.

Really? My computer will not run the program. Maybe I'm missing something here... eh. Don't care. I can't download anything on the connection I'm on anyway.

If you can tell me what is wrong perhaps I can help you.

Additional Comment:

Sorry for the doublepost, but the server is temporarily operational. Some people have already tried connecting to it. There is a problem, however; you will not be able to connect unless my computer is functional. I am still trying to find out the solution to the problem, but for now, try logging in and battling by following these steps:

Shouldn't it be:

4. For Port, put 22222

Yes I'll edit that correction.

It seems though you can only get on when Doctor Is's comupter is on so yeah. I'm not sure if he fixed that yet.

Mini-update: Some of you have already noticed the latest development. The Pojo Server is now listed on the list of servers! People should come and visit sometime, it's pretty fun.

Also, I'd like to request that Pojo members welcome other unknown members with open arms. Instead of interrogating them, introduce yourselves, ask them a few questions, etc. By doing so, I'm sure new members will be attracted to our server and it will continue to grow :)

The next project will be Setting Up a UU Ladder, but no guarantees can be made, since I'm still asking the Shoddy gurus how to set up ladders. If I manage to learn the techniques of ladder creation, expect more than just a UU ladder. Suspect, Little Cup, and other good recommendations will be expected.

Itsuki
06-18-2009, 11:30 AM
Standard (Already Done)
UnderUsed
Uber (Already Done)
Suspect
Little Cup
CAP (If possible)

I think those would be great for the Pojo Server.

I only use Shoddy so this will be cool and I'll get to play some of you guys

Itsuki
06-18-2009, 05:09 PM
Since we can't connect to the server unless the computer with the file is on possibly you can send it to multiple people on Pojo who are active. Does that give them Admin status though? Also does it take up a lot of memory? And the final question, is this possible?

You can give them your ShoddyBattle.jar file and they will be able to run your server, but then your metaserver information will change

Doctor Is
06-18-2009, 07:59 PM
I don't understand what "metaserver information" refers to, but I'm sure that the welcome message, admin positions etc can be redone if the "metaserver information" is reversed. If R To Shoot has his computer on 24/7, then I will send the file to you immediately.

iReincarnation
06-18-2009, 08:05 PM
My computer is normally on 24/7 and I would do it but I'm not sure if this computer could run it, but once I get a new computer (that my family won't be sharing to slow down :D) I'll be more than happy to run it as well.

Doctor Is
06-18-2009, 09:20 PM
We are still having problems since the Shoddy gurus' advice is not clear enough. If your computer is on 24/7 and you'd like to help run it PM me or R_To_Shoot, thanks.

Itsuki, please feel free to edit the battlebot info:

POJO SERVER BATTLEBOTS
This post strives to explain the nature of a number of bots I have recently created in the Pojo Shoddy Server. They are highly intelligent, but like most other bots, require certain commands to work. These bots are primarily are used for battling and testing your competitive battling ability. More information can be found later. For now, let's meet the bots themselves:

PORYBOTCreated: 18th of June, 2009.
Skill Level: Above Average (7.5/10)
Teams:

Cradily's in the Cradle (Stall, OU)
Heroes (Offense, OU)
Operation Desert Stall (Stall, UU)***
Shuck You (Stall, Uber)Description: Most of you have been acquainted with PORYBOT and have had the privilege of battling it before. Like its programmer (me), PORYBOT enjoys making use of stall teams. Teams in blue are ones that many of you have battled before. "Operation Desert Stall" is PORYBOT's signature team. It will have you moaning in pain if you do not have significant counters. PORYBOT is an intelligent creature that can help you with a few things, described in the next paragraph.

Commands: This is how you can get PORYBOT to talk to you, or help you.

\hi : Greet PORYBOT.
\bestplayer : Gives info on the top three players for each ladder.
/record x : Where x is a username.
\irrelevantswearwords: PORYBOT will have some intelligent responses of its own.Other commands will be installed, but as for now, those are the commands PORYBOT understands. As its designer, I have superior control over it. In other words, I can tell it to get on the ladder, get it to challenge you, get it to use different teams, etc

PLAYBOTCreated: 20th of June, 2009.
Skill Level: Very Good (9/10)
Teams:

UUs in OU (UU/OU, Balanced)**Description: PLAYBOT is a creation dedicated to Itsuki. It is so good that it can use a team of 6 UUs and win OU battles consistently. On several occasions it has even defeated Uber teams with 6 UUs. PLAYBOT reflects the skill level of Itsuki. Although it only has one team for now, I will program more soon.

Tell me, how hard is PLAYBOT to beat?
If you have a fast mix sweeper it's easy. If not, you're screwed. Give up

Commands: As of now I am allowing PLAYBOT to freely get on the ladder when I turn it on. I also have superior controls (and so does Itsuki), but you guys can't really do anything except challenge it. On occasion it will accept.

BLISSBOT777Created: 20th of June, 2009.
Skill Level: It Depends
Team:

Bliss Push (Stall, OU)
Ignorance is Blissey (Stall, OU)
SubPunchBlissFTW! (Balanced, OU)
Blissey is Me (Offense, OU)
Scarfbliss Revolution (Offense, OU)**
Wish Upon a Bliss (Stall, OU)
Wish Upon a Chanse (Stall, UU)
Specschanse Revolution (Offense, UU)
Skarmblisscress = Uber Stall (Stall, Uber)Description: This is a bot obsessed with Blissey. It has nine programmed teams, all of which star Blissey in some way or another. That's all there is to say. Some Blissey sets might catch you by surprise and obtain a few revenge kills, so watch out. When facing this battlebot it's going to be a good idea to have a Lucario...or is it? You decide!

Commands: If you type \bliss or \blissey BlissBot777 will recite some poems glorifying Blissey. If you type \(insertswearword)bliss or some other rude commands, BlissBot777 will swear at you and ban you for an arbitrary time.

Q & A

1. Asked by 0_0
Q: HOW DO THESE BOTS HAVE STRATEGY?
A: With a little programming, anything is possible.

Have fun with the bots.

Probably put the above post somewhere in the OP maybe so it doesnt get lost, or a link to it at least.

Edit: Nevermind, just noticed o.O

ewwwww blissey. I think putting a bot in ladders wouldn't be a good idea, if they are prepared for them it's an easy win for the person whenever it comes up. It should just be something you can challenge by choice

Doctor Is
06-20-2009, 08:16 AM
The good thing is I can activate or deactivate them accordingly, because some people have requested that a bot 'jump on to the ladder' sometimes.

Also these bots are pretty good. I've read some logs especially PLAYBOT and it just wrecks all kinds of teams with UU. lol

Also PORYBOT usually beats the player 4-0+ so its funny. Except me. lol

Awesome, I'll have to check out the bots soon.

About to attempt to get on the server now...

Additional Comment:

Having a problem getting onto the server. I have tried both methods listed in the OP and both times I get a screen that pops up saying this:

"An error occurred while attempting to connect to the server:

Connection timed out: connect"

Just take out the "s of course.
