FRIDAY:
Ok so I find out that the release date for the 5D’s Starter Deck 2009 has been moved back to Tuesday so my plans to run Cat Synchro go completely down the toilet and the only other deck I have slightly ready is Blackwings but my Armor Master hasn’t come in yet so their not their best.
SATURDAY:
I ride up to Newnan for the hobby league tournament and running Blackwings I finish in 5th or 6th, nothing special. (I lost to the guy who ended up winning the tounement). So a couple friends and I head back to Daryl’s house to spend the night so I don’t have to wake up at 4-5 to make it to the regz on time.
SUNDAY:
We wake up at about 6:45 after going to bed at 3:30 or so. I’m still not feeling superiorly confident in Blackwings and decide to run a deck I have only ever tested against Lightsworn….the deck I built it to beat. So I don’t really know how it will fair against Gladiator Beasts or Blackwings to some extent. So we get to the regz and I still don’t have my deck put together and I cant remember the list exactly…..So we register and get our deck sheets, me and Daryl have to register for Clay and his brother Patrick because their running a little late. I literally throw a build together off the top of my head and just glance through it, I try to get people to help me see if its good enough but everyone is too busy. So I go check out the venders and buy and Super PoA for 3 bucks because it’s the last thing I need for Cat Synchro on Tuesday and 3 bucks is cheaper than its gunna be. Then I do some trades and talk to people before the tournament starts. They tell us we’re getting a lunch break after round 3.
Round 1:
David (Light Skill Drain) Vs. Blackwings
Game 1 he hits me with a first turn Deck Devastation Virus…..Really? My deck can handle CCV but all but 3 of my monsters get hit by DDV. So I’m forced to use solemns and everything possible to keep my Barbaros alive and somehow pull out the win.
Game 2 I lock him down with Skill Drain, Royal Oppression and Mask of Restrict…he can’t come back

Round 2:
David (Light Skill Drain) Vs. Lightsworn
So I’m sitting next to my co-captain and playing a guy I’ve known for a while so its pretty easy to relax.
Game 1….Its Skill Drain Vs. Lightsworn…..I win.
Game 2….I don’t draw ANY of my stuff and lose
Game 3….I don’t draw my Drains until the last couple turns but I did pull off some crazy shenanigans with Honest and Nova Summoner so I could pull it out.

Ok so that last game was really bad but I’m still feeling good because I only have to make tope 32 to get my invite NOT top 8.
So we all go across the street to KFC for lunch but so did all the other 180+ people at the regz. So we walk down the street a little to the Arby’s and get some grub. We eat then head back w/ a few minutes to spare.
Round 4:
David (Light Skill Drain) Vs. Lightsworn
I’ve seen and played this guy before and he’s been cool in the past.
Game 1 He gets all his JD’s and once he sees I’m running Skill Drain he just goes for his big beaters like Garoth/Jain ect and I lose.
So he’s complimenting me on my deck and stuff asking me what gave me the idea and stuff and we’re just having casual conversation.
Game 2 I end up w/ Skill Drain/Nova Summoner on the field w/ 2 Honest in hand, to his 4 monsters (1 Garoth 1 Celestia 1 def Aurkus and 1 def Honest.) I’d been saving up my vortex for a moment just like this. I clear his field and get game from their. He’s b*tching and moaning about how I always have Honest in hand when he saw me search Honest in def w/ Nova Summoner and bounce it back to my hand and told me that was a cool idea when it happened.
Game 3 he opens w/ cold wave and before I look at my hand I’m thinking “great, here’s another loss.” Then I look at my hand of 6 monsters (2 Honest 2 Nova Summoners 1 Beast King Barbaros and Mystic Tomato) so while Cold Wave isn’t doing much I cant do a whole lot either. He keeps Cold Waveing me and calling me a stacker and I just bide my time till I can Reborn his celestia to get over his def Honest and take the game from there.

Round 5:

Game 1 he opens 2 Lumina Garoth and both times Garoth mills 2 LS and he draws 4. He milled 2 Wulfs and ended w/ 5 monesters and 6 cards in hand. I draw activate lightning vortex and summon newdoria to attack. He draws drops JD JD DAD blows up newdoria w/ DAD and swings for game.
Game 2 I open w/ a set Nova Summoner and end. He opens w/ 2 Lumina Garoth again and attacks nova summoner I SS honest in def and he ends drawing 2 off garoth. I draw, lightning vortex again and he’s like “Man you sure draw vortex a lot.” I summon shining angel attack w/ both then add honest back to my hand MP2. He draws drops JD JD DAD blows up shining angel and attacks for game…..Right and I’m stacking lightning vortex….

Ok so my co-captian and 2 teammates of mine have been running LS for at least a year each and have NEVER had that kind of luck w/ them. I simply wont believe that stuff just happens until they get it or I get it myself. It isn’t like he beckoninged or Monster Reincarnationed the JD’s and DAD to his hand, and how magical was it that he ALWAYS milled exactly 3 darks? This was BS but I kept my cool.
Round 6:
David (Light Skill Drain) Vs. Lightsworn
This is the same guy as round 2 and he had been telling me that he just really wanted his invite and he had received a match loss last round because of a technicality. So he wasn’t too happy to see me, his only real loss again.
Game 1 he’s asking me if I could do him a really big favor and just scoop and I tell him I cant since this is my last chance to get my invite before nats because there’s only 1 other regz we’d be able to go to and I’ll be out of the country when it happens. So we play and I have all the answers to everything he has. It comes down to me at 5300 and him at 1700 and he beckonings gets back JD and 3 Honest drops JD swings over mystic tomato so I cant honest and drops all 3 honest for game.
Game 2 he’s in a better mood since he won game 1 but that all ends when I win game 2.
Game 3 I have all my anti-lightsworn stuff and win.

This guys almost in tears because he said he’s just been having a horrible day and I feel really bad for him because he had to play me and my anti-lightsworns 2 times at the same regz and got a stupid match loss.
Round 7:
David (Light Skill Drain) Vs. Ojamas
This guy was sitting across from me round 1 so I knew what he was playing but he was 4-2 which means something must be up. We sit down and he tells me he’s been hearing about my deck and he’s pretty sure he cant win this match.
Game 1 he’s doing his ojama blue -> ojama country and Ojamagic -> Ojama King at 3000 attack that keeps coming back. It ends up w/ me at 3100 and him at 3200 and he discards an ojama for Ojama Country and I chain Royal Oppression and kill Ojama Country then he activates another Ojama Country and activates its effect I kill it w/ oppression and activates and 3rd and I kill it leaving me at 700. He;s now forced to keep setting monsters and I get him down to 400. He activates Magical Stone Excavation and gets back Ojama country while discarding Ojamagic so he gets back Ojama King and attacks my Shining Angel and I honest for game.
Game 2 I side into my 3rd oppression and twisters and stuff and he can’t do anything. At some point he creature swaps and give me Ojama Blue and takes Nova Summoner he attacks and gets 2 ojamas. I draw, heavy storm summoner nova summoner, crash bring out shining angel and nova summoner and attack for 2800 he cant come back.

After the match he tells me he knew he couldn’t win since he runs 3 creature swaps and 3 creature seizures so his swap strategy worked against him in our match.
Starting round 8 Clay George and I are all 5-2, Daryl’s 4-3 and Patrick and Michael are both 3-4. We all think the 3 of us are guaranteed our invites if we win out next match. But come to find out, Clay and George get paired against each other and I’m playing the D-Fissure Glad beast deck clay lost to earlier….Great…..
Round 8:
Game 1 the guys being a total d*ck about how I’m lucksacking and I must have been luck sacking all day or something. But he wins.
Game 2 I just cant keep anything on the field cuzz he’s dropping Gyzarus every turn and I cant draw any of my 3 Skill Drains or 3 Oppressions so I lose.

So after the match is over the guys in a much better mood and is saying stuff like “Congrats, awesome finish with that deck” and stuff and I’m like w/e dude you wouldn’t be saying that if you had lost.
So Clay beats George and Clay finishes 11th, George finishes 31st I end up 33rd….figures, I’m always 1 off…I’ve finished 9th before too and I’m tired of it lol. Daryl finishes 44th and we’re trying to tell him he still has a chance. The invites end up getting passed down all the way to 45…..Phew that was close. So out of 7 of us who went 4 of us got our invites….nice. So we go to Applebee’s and get food then head home happy.
