so i woke up around 7 with the best deck I could put together that i was most familiar with: plants. it made it consistent, and when playtesting against the only other deck in my disposal, gladiator beasts, it crushed it (disclaimer: i've been out of the game since right before crimson crisis' release). so i got a parking spot a few blocks away, got my retard card (read: konami card) and boosters (some jank super and few notable commons) and filled out the decklist. me, dan, will, and mike start throwing around mike's 'stich' doll and being obnoxious and then we got ricardo squeaking at us to begin.

round 1: sacksworn
yeh so this sets the trend for most of the day. first game i lose to double honest after calling in his hand in a battle back in forth(pretty sure he wouldn't have noticed if i wasn't like "oh and betcha got your last 2 honests to finish me off"). game two i'm gaining some leverage, draw into mind crush + dustshoot, getting ride of a judgment and honest. he ends up topping a recharge, that draws him into a judgment, and for whatever reason, i hadn't managed to draw any defensive traps that my deck thrives on. a kind of lucky lightning vortex kills that and a wulf he got off the mill, but he gets better topdecks and pulls the second win.

0-1

round 2: black'sack'wing

yeh so much goes wrong in this match, all in his favor. having double whirlwind both games, topping a anti-reverse game 2 to nail my mirror force that he would have overextended into and won me the game otherwise, and pretty much drawing outs to all my negation. he played his advantages well though, so good player + amazing draws = auto-win for good player.

0-2

so i'm steamed i got sacked for 2 straight rounds, but hey, lunch break! hit up prov place for some subway, and then come back to find *gasp* the system went berserk and f-ed up. but yeh, before i realized it, they got things going again.

round 3: no show!

kind of peculiar to get one so soon, but w/e, not complaining

1-2

round 4: sackwing #2

a cool kid who didn't speak up much, but yeh, he knows he got lucky to seal the match. round 1 and round 2 were one side just dominating over the other. round 3 got down to about 2-3 cards each. from a mind crush i have him on kalut and dark armed. i had recently cleared his field, and was ready to vortex out the DAD, with gorz stopping some damage if he planned to overextend. lucky topdeck? cold wave! nails the bluff i had down, and the gorz + token after my attack. i draw into? threatening roar!!! had i drawn a summonable monster i would have had a turn extra to drop the vortex, but nope....gg.

1-3

round 5: dark monarch shenanigans

so i was thinking about dropping out, but i figure i need the experience, and figure hey, if i win out, there's some hope in catching an invite that shifts down the line. so yeh, this guy goes gold sarco for DAD as his first move, and i'm like 'oh damn...here we go again'. but yeh, he poses no real threat, and i pretty much have him locked out, and he can't drop dad with my thunderking out. he didn't seem like that good a player, so i really don't bother siding. turns out i didn't need to, since i had him on the lock anyway.

2-3

round 6: sackwing #2 AGAIN??

so yeh, that new snazzy tourney system konami has....paired me with this kid again. i'm too lazy to fix it, and again, looking to get more practice in. i really don't remember much except for game 3, in which i pretty much go card for card with him until i leave him with no defenses and get a unapposed tytannial out. i get a fertilizer turn after, and debate tytannial #2 or dandylion for the lockdown. i choose tytannial, and hey, he gets nothing to stop it. woohoo!

3-3

round 7: woohoo hopeless dragon shenanigans

cool guy i always see around, always does lightsworn so was hoping for the best here. turns out, in awareness of his poor record, he put together a hopeless dragon build instead. sarco #1: future fusion. sarco #2: heavy storm. i try to get some sort of a field in the midst of him turboing through his deck, but yeh, ending field was for him:

dark armed, dark horus, REDMD x2, FGD

onto game 2? yeh this was very close, and he had me on the ropes, but he was also dangerously low on LP. i win off a tiny play error on his part, leaving me an direct way to deal the last 100 damage. game 3 was also a grinder, but i win out thanks to mark.

4-3

so managed to pull out, but i find all my tiebreakers fell to the x-3 mark as well. i check the invites list, i don't make it :( so i drive on home and contemplate waiting until next format for control to make its return....hopefully
