What a surprise! Gold and Silver remakes! No one predicted this! Who wants to bet Ruby and Sapphire remakes are coming in several years?

The Japanese Yahoo website has officially confirmed the existence of Gold and Silver remakes. The games are to be titled HeartGold and SoulSilver and will be released this fall in Japan. According to Bangiras, the Yahoo article states that the games are remakes in the same vein as FireRed and LeafGreen were remakes of Red and Blue. The only other fact the article states is that the games will contain new features as well as sound and graphic improvements. The translation of the article and the game logos can be seen below.

Following Yahoo's announcement, the official Japanese website posted a page announcing the game. You can read the translation of their page below the Yahoo article translation.

News on the games is bound to appear on Pokemon Sunday this weekend, as posted previously. Heerosferret is going to try to record the announcement for us when it airs, and when she does it will be posted here immediately. Details on the games are also bound to appear in the next issue of CoroCoro as well, which will probably be leaked on to the internet by next week. Be sure to check back here for the latest news and translations!

We learned on the 7th that "Pocket Monsters Gold and Silver," the second entry in the popular RPG series, originally released on the Gameboy system in November of 1999, will be remade for the Nintendo DS this autumn under the titles "HeartGold" and "SoulSilver." New elements will be added in this tenth anniversary return to the Johto Region.

A continuation of the original series (Pocket Monsters Red, Green, Blue, and Pikachu), Gold and Silver recorded remarkable sales of 23,000,000 copies worldwide. It introduced monsters that hadn't appeared in the gameboy games, along with various new features.

Red and Green, the first games of the Pokemon series, were remade for the Gameboy Advance in 2004 as "Fire Red and Leaf Green," making this the second set of remakes. While Red and Green had fantastic upgrades in their transition from Gameboy to Gameboy Advance, this time the games are skipping the Gameboy Advance and going directly from Gameboy to DS. So they will almost certainly have drastically upgraded graphics and sound. Details will be released on the official site shortly.

Currently in development for the Nintendo DS are the newest entries in the Pokemon series: "Pocket Monsters HeartGold and SoulSilver." Taking place in the Johto region, the games will be upgraded with all of the series' current features and will also be paced with brand new features. This year marks the tenth anniversary of "Pocket Monsters Gold and Silver's" release on the original Gameboy, so its revival is only fitting. Since its release in 1999, the game has sold over 23,000,000 copies worldwide.

hmm, dunno, it's kinda odd to have a remake for RS, though I'd love it ^^

the next release should probably be a new game for generation 5, cause in the anime ash's getting close to the pokemon league in the current arc, so, my guess is that by the end of next year there'll be a new pokemon game ^^

still having a remake for GS with the new grafics is gonna be awesome ^^

They'll probably do a remake of FRLG too for the DS xD (in 10 years or so xD)

I don't think they'll re-make Crystal. Only Silver and Gold. Remember they didn't remake Blue, or Yellow.

Every 4 or so years, a new Pokemon gen comes out. If we're to go on recent patterns, 1999 came the 2nd gen, 2002 bought in the 3rd Gen, 2006 bought in the 4th and then 2010 should be 5th.

If not, then they'll probably have to release a new title. At least that is my hope it will be a crystal remake. I never did buy/play that one unfortunately...

This is lame. When they remade red and green that was special, like after all those years they still remembered those that played the games when it first came out. Don't get me wrong I loved Silver and Gold, but it just feels like a easy way for them to get money from. Plus it's not fair that these are coming out for the DS and not the original ones

why the hell would they remake g/s for the original gameboy ? they already remade the originals. the main reason they're remaking these is because johto is the only reigon currently with non connectivity. its not just a money scam. you're just a big baby.

because that would be redundant. they already have connectivity to those games, and they only came out about 4 years ago.

I see what your saying, but I'm just seeing it as a gamer that has played since the beginning, and wish that maybe they could have waited to remake Red and Green so that they could have had wi-fi. Like I said earlier though I loved Silver and Gold and still am hoping to get the game ^_^

who knows. they might remake them in the future. but most likely, the g/s remakes will have kanto in them, an r/s will probably get remade first.

This does bring back good memories, about the 1st time Gold/Silver came out, and the months i waited before It finally came out. I was so excited, It drove me mad to wait a year or so.
