Goyo Gardian Vs. Collosal Fighter?

I have a question about rulings. I was deuling my friend and he enemy controllered my Collosal Fighter and changed it to defense. Then he attacked it with goyo gardian. When i tried to SS my Collosal Fighter back, he said i couldnt because he was taking it with Goyo Gardian's Effect. Since both effects activate in the dame step, what happens? I checked, there is no offical ruling on it.

I believe the general ruling when two effects try to resolve at once is that the turn player has priority.

In this case I think (maybe?) they would start a chain. Turn player attacks and destroys, saying he's going use an effect to summon it, then the other player says he's going to use it's effect. The last effect to activate would resolve first.

Of course, I could be horribly wrong, as I've never actually ran into the situation before.

i think you would get your collosal fighter back cuz his effect is a have to effect and goyo is a can effect so collosal fighter would go first
but like the other guy i could be wrong

Actually, yeah...I didn't notice that Collosal's was mandatory. I actually think that may mean he *won't* get it back, if the two effects actually form a chain.

Mandatory Effects trigger before Optional effect.

Goyo resolves first and revives the Fighter. And if Fighter selected itself as a target it will resolve with out effect.

When I asked this, they told me Colossal stays with the owner. But then in their explanation, Colossal was second in the chain. I have no idea now.
