I got a news letter from Unity Entertainment (the group that holds our Regionals for Yugioh) and it stated this.
BIG NEWS! Unity Entertainment has partnered with Rob Dougherty who is known from the Magic Hall of Fame to run Organized Play for his new card game, EPIC! We are going to be doing prereleases for this game on February 21st and 22nd all around Florida, Georgia, and even Puerto Rico! If you are interested in helping us run these awesome events, please reply to this message for more details.
I was just wondering has anyone else heard of this card game because I can't find any information on it.

my local shop was contacted about it.
looks to be a freelance TCG with cash prize support for mid level and higher tournaments.
Combat uses the MTG attack and defense stats with trample called breakthrough.
there are no mana sources, cards cost 0 or 1 to play; you gain 1 energy on each players turn (excess energy is lost at the end of turn)
It looks like it may be interesting, the site for the game is

Is this game supposed to be the successor of the WoW TCG or something?

haven't read the rules because the cards look half baked and not professional at all.

Played a bit around with the demo decks. Not impressed at all. It's more like Yugi-oh than a magic clone. It's more about who has the better cards and better draw. THe problem is the lack of a resource system. Yeah, I heard the gripes, people just bashing it as yet another game trying to get rid of mana screw. I don't buy it. The cards suffer from "strictly better" syndrome in a bad way.
also tokens are over powered since it's hard to get rid of a swarm but easy to get to rid of one card. Wouldn't be so bad if you attacked all at once but you're able to split up the attacks to by pass blocking. Plus cards with "tap" effects can be used right away and every thing readies at the end of every player's turn so it adds up quickly.
And there's NO story. I mean even the spoils had a story. Over all the game is very forgettable and appears to be some throw away game somebody made in about 30 minutes. Harsh words I know but with he ccg market the way it is now a days it doesn't need any other games with out any sort of redeeming factor.

I might waste 10 bucks at the pre-release.

Hey all,
If you want to try Epic for yourself, demo decks and rules can be found at www.epicTCG.com (http://www.epictcg.com).
Epic is a new trading card game designed by Magic Hall of Famer Robert Dougherty with development by Magic Hall of Famer Darwin Kastle.
Easy to Learn, Fun to Play
In Epic there are no cumbersome “resource” or “land” cards. Instead, each turn every player has a single action. The most powerful cards cost an action to play, others are free. This simple system makes Epic easy to learn and keeps play fast and furious from the very first turn.
Strategic Depth
Every card in your hand is powerful. Any one of them will change the course of the game. But which will you choose to play? That is the decision that makes Epic so challenging and fun to play.
Great Play Out of Just Two Packs
A special sorting system makes every pack of Epic balanced for sealed or draft play. This combined with every card being powerful and playable allows for fantastic sealed or draft play using just two packs per player!
Organized Play Support
Epic has a nationwide organized play program with unique promotional cards for local events run by stores, and cash prizes for large regional events run by the best event organizers in the business.
For 2 or more players, playable in approximately 20 minutes.

Sorry to hear you didn't like it. We've had a ton of players try the game and most love the big play and constant decision making in Epic. But, you can't please all of the people all of the time...
A few of quick points:
#1) All flipped cards are prepared at the end of each turn. Expended cards are only prepared at the beginning of your own turn.
Flip abilities are weaker, and can be used on every players turn. The more powerful expend abilities can only be used once per cycle.
#2) There are a ton of ways to clear the board of champions including tokens. From the demo decks you have Apocalypses, Life Holder Crystal, Angle of Death, Ice Storm, etc.
#3) There is enough luck in Epic to keep things fun, but the better player will win most of the time. Perhaps you just need to get used to the way the game plays, or perhaps you need to find better opponents;)
Thanks,
Rob Dougherty

Epic TCG looks like a good game mechanic wise but as with the story and background of it I'm a bit iffy on even though it didn't really matter much in games like World of Warcraft and Magic: The Gathering. In a sense it does matter in Magic though to some extent...
I might try Epic TCG sometime just to see what it's like but it's hard for me to say really, part of the reason why I've been playing Magic alot is because like it's been said before it's the pioneer that created the TCG genre and industry itself.
Though it is something to be proud of, it's a pretty fun TCG nonetheless but I think it's age might be catching up to it though but that's not gonna stop me from playing it cause I enjoy it, at least I try to despite the stale meta right now.
To be honest after looking at the preview cards and test decks for Epic TCG I like the card illustrations in Magic alot better cause well I kinda find that 3D imagery is a bit odd on cards IMO. Infact If you want a perfect example of an animated series made entirely in 3D Imagery go watch Xavier: Renegade Angel on Adult Swim.
The card templates are decent but I'm just not sold on it, they look kinda awkward. You could've at least made it look more generic like in Magic, Yugioh, Pokemon, that sort of thing ya know. I don't dislike the game I just think it could've looked more presentable to appeal to TCG players in general.
Oh well just my 2 cents anyway, no hard feelings Robert... :)

I agree that a backstory would be nice and that the card designs are a busy/ugly. But, that doesn't stop the rest of the game from being very fun. It's kinda like MTG if it was fast-paced like YGO.
As far as the luck part, it actually involves less luck than MTG because you don't have to worry about getting mana-screwed or mana-flooded. (And it's got a powerful Mulligan system even if you did somehow draw badly.)

the story and background of [EPIC] I'm a bit iffy on
I agree that a backstory would be nice
You guys should check out page 2 of the official rule book www.epictcg.com there is a pretty interesting back story for the game. And besides - a back story for a TCG can't be too long or detailed... just something short and simple as found on the second page of the rule book is perfect. When you explain the back story for Magic, you don't go in depth about each individual tribe from every plane of existence from Dominaria to Mirrodin to Alara... you just say "You are a planeswalker dueling another planeswalker in a battle of wits and might through the use of fantastical spells creatures and magic." Or something along those lines.

Nothing excuses bad card design... (Seriously I hope you developers are not paying your Graphic Designers that much... I mean I have to admit I'm intrigued by some elements of the game mechanic, but the card design is just so aesthetically embarrassing to put out on the table top, I mean my high school had a graphic arts program and 80% of the students work have better layouts and design than that).

I played in my prerelease (Denton TX) today, and had a lot better time than I was expecting. It took a while to get some people to show up, but we did a little bit of open play (two packs) and then had 7 for the Sealed flight at 1. i wound up getting some decent stuff, although I still don't know how to evaluate a card pool, but went 2-0, then split with the other 2-0 in the final round so we'd both get The Shield. Plays well though, and I'm looking forward to playing in an actual tournament soon. The Facilitator is ridiculous, BTW.

I like the card art, is there anywhere to see pictures of all the cards?
Seems like a cool game, I'd like to try it, but couldn't make it to a preview.
When I click on the link it takes me to "Palm tree" something.... Why?
