who here wants to speculate about what the helm of kaldra is going to do.

who thinks mtg is going to have like a soldier of kaldra that when everything is equiped to it you win the game. you never know just another one of them many win conditions and it seems possible magic doesn't have its version of an exodia yet. I think the whole morph face down thing was just a little bit of a coincidence along with equipment. and the same with YGO and their burn cards I hope this isn't some symbiotic relationship.

Well I'm pretty sure the Helm of Kaldra will have a casting cost of 4, and an equip cost of 4. But in terms of special abilities? I don't know.

Perhaps...

Helm of Kaldra - 4
Legendary Artifact - Equipment
When Helm of Kaldra comes into play, you may search your library for a card named Shield of Kaldra and Sword of Kaldra, reveal them and put them into your hand. Shuffle your library.

Equipped creature cannot be the target of spells or abilities.

Equip: 4

Given what each has done, it wouldn't be surprising to have the Helm of Kaldra perform something relating to a new mechanic in Fifth Dawn.

Other possibilities :

- Equipped creature may attach Sword of Kaldra and Shield of Kaldra for free.
- A hybrid of Sword of Fire and Ice and/or Light and Shadow (i.e. five plus abilities for having all equipped).
- "Creatures you control gain +5/+5, are indestructible, and gain 'creatures damaged by this creature is removed from the game' "

why not follow the book?

Helm of Khaldra - 4
Equip - 4
If you have Helm,Sword,Shield of Khaldra, you may sacrifice them to summon "Khaldra Champion"

Is that a spoiler for the Darksteel Eye novel? If so I haven't read it yet.

Sacrificing the pieces of equipment for Khladra's Champion would be ok. Nothing too exciting. It's been done before. Before people start screaming "Yu-gi-oh", I will politely remind people Spirit of the Night from the Visions expansion could be summoned in a smiliar manner. That expansion was out long, long before Yu-Gi-Oh even hit the states.

not really a spoiler. anyway the book was disappointing, no Eater of Days, no Darksteel Colossus, no nothing.

I didn't realize the Fifth Dawn book was already available, hmm... out of the loop I be.

Yes. A few years ago they discovered that people were interested in having an actual story behind the cards, something to make it more endearing.

Sooo, they comissioned a few authors, and wrote about worlds where we could relate MtG to. After that, they started writing stories with actual characters they could incoperate into the card game. Gerrard, Urza, Kamahl, Akroma, and now Glissa, all have books written about them.

every planeswalker in the game is in at least one of the books.

Helm of Kaldra will probably sport a new ability or mechanic represented in Fifth Dawn.

You Know what would be awsome? If the Helm Turned into a creature so you could equip it!

Helm of Kaldra [5]
Legendary Artifact

This card can be eqquiped as if it were a creature.
Equip costs cost 1 less when equiping to this card.
As long as this card is eqqiped, it becomes a creature with power and toughness equal to the combined Equip cost of all cards equip to it.

Helm of Kaldra cannot be the target of non-artifact spells or abilitys that target creatures.

That sounds like a rather interesting card Indalecio. One quick question though; wouldn't the Helm fall off of whatever creature it was equipped on once it becomes a creature itself?

Well, since it is a helmet, it would likely be defensive. Perhaps it would give a creature Mother of Runes' power (Tap: target creature gains protection from the color of your choice until end of turn). Or maybe a "tap, unattach" thing that perhaps pumps all your creatures. Can't really say.

It could be some wierd magic helemt that makes something an Akroma, or gives it many abilities, like MoR's, a crazy 3-damage Ping, firebreathing, and who knows what else. And then maybe when you play a spell untap it. It's really tough to say until we know the new mechanics, which it may use...

And I think they are going to make some sort of Kaldra Legend. And judging by the alternate artwork on his stuff, he'll be a green (green arm, green reflection on shield) lizard/troll thing, and definitely not artifact since I'm guessing he is supposed to destroy Memnarch in the story (they make Memnarch so negative, like on Tower of Fortunes...A non-artifact superguy would be the only thing I can thing of that would oppose him).

And he'd probably have some ability where if he is equipped with all his stuff, and you do combat damage to a player, you win (Phage sorta thing). Most likely he'd be 5/4 (kill Memnarch), and perhaps have first strike/double strike, maybe trample. Also, I'm going to guess he has protection from artifacts (again with anti-Memnarch).

But what the hell do I know. I haven't read the books and am just basing this on flavor texts and pictures. Maybe he isn't even the killer of Memnarch but just some Tel-Jilad leader (still think he's green). I dunno though (as if someone outside of R&D would), but these are my speculations on the Kaldra matter.

thats lovely.... I love it when people base there predictions soley on flavor text...

as it is, I think helm of kaldra will just be the big new creature mechanic....

Well what else am I to base it on (I actually based it on flavor AND artwork, mind you), assuming I don't feel like running out to buy some books and then reading the whole frikkin things? And your prediction would seem quite obvious, having been stated multiple times. Maybe you should be a little more imaginative, as was intended by this thread. Also, it may not be the new mechanic, and if it was, we still have no idea what it is.

Perhaps we should instead speculate on what the next mechanic would be.

Isn't Memnarch the golem that was left behind after Jeska (Post Phage/Korona) went planeswalking with (some golem/planeswalker) at the end of the Onslaught series? Thought he'd be saved and the Micosynth stuff would be destroyed.

Yes, I read some books.... (shameful look). Don't expect too much. I had to laugh when a one handed Ixidor beat on Kamahl with both hands (figure that one out).

Maybe the helm gives some immunity to artifacts as well as some new game mechanic, since the mycosynth (according to the story) is suppose to be making Memnarch a living thing but turning everything else into artifacts.
