Hello,

I just had a question and would like other judges' opinions on this matter, since the judge at my locals I don't think got this call right.

When the effect of Dark Snake Syndrome occurs during the standby phase of the controller, which of these two scenarios happen?

A: Dark Snake Syndrome deals 200 LP damage to the controlling team and 200 LP damage to the opposing team.

B: Dark Snake Syndrome deals 200 LP damage to the controlling team and 400 LP damage to the opposing team.

Scenario A seems like the one that is the right way because as a team you are sharing life points. A LV1 Judge I was arguing with about it earlier (I'm also a LV1, but he was head judge at this local), said that because the card says "opponent's", it deals 200 per player on the opposing side, then doubles from there. I told him that according to the rules, the team shares Life Points and Field, and effects that affect either of those two only occur once.

Which one is the right one? Are there any LV1 or higher judges there that can validate this for me?

1. This should be in Q & A.

2. "opponent's" is a singular possessive noun, so tell whatever judge you argued with he's not smarter than a fifth grader.

The Q & A guys will be able to give you a more detailed answer, but it will count the opponent as one entity, and your team as one entity, therefore starting the damage on both sides at 200.
