My son is 5 and he saw some Pokemon Figures at a store that he liked and wanted for Christmas. They looked like they belonged to some sort of game, so I was considering getting some for him. If there's no game attached, they'll wind up collecting dust. So I did some research online and found that they are simply toys with no game aspect to them. While searching online for info on these toys however, I discovered this game and couldn't believe I'd never seen or heard of them.
I quickly went to the comic book, and collectible stores in my area and none of them had any available or had even heard of it. Finally I found 2 starters at a used book store and I was quite impressed with the quality.
It's clear that there's not a lot of consumers behind this game, but after having looked into this game, that doesn't bother me one bit!
-It's a great looking collectible and if the market hasn't soaked up 5 production runs of the initial set, that makes it all that much more collectible to me.
-The game is fun and simple with enough variety to keep things interesting for a long time.
-Room for growth is huge, and if ST:TNG CCG can survive more than 5 expansions, so can this!
I'm still collecting the first series since I only JUST found out about the game, so I'm not nearly as disillusioned as many others are waiting for the next Xpack. For now it looks like E-Bay is my only source.
Anyhow, is anyone still following this game?

I'm starting to get into it too, but I can't seem to find any retail stores that are still carrying product. I too am looking to only Ebay to find the figures.
The games future itself is still up in the air. It seems as though some people were interested in it, but they keep delaying the 2nd expansion Groundbreakers. Its slated to come out early next year I believe so only time will tell if it succeeds.

I've been scoping the toy shelves at all the Big Box retailers--since you're new, I'll mention I do the "Loretta's Toy News/Blog" for Pojo--and I haven't seen anything other than a few mos. back they included a TF with a TCG tin (spotted at Target). Those went quick, but one figure does not a game make. Last fall, around Thanksgiving, before I owned a digicam, I found the Groundbreakers starter and everyone on the web thought it was a hoax. Anyhoo, if I ever see anymore TF's, I'll send Pojo a heads up post haste. I'm a compulsive shopper on my lunch breaks from my real job, so I often spot things that aren't scarfed up by the 8AM doorbuster e-Bay'ers before the weekend shoppers hit. I haven't been able to pry info outta the official Pokemon site either; they give you a stock reply usually if you ask... Yeah, I heard next year, sigh. If you hunt around on e-Bay or the web, you'll get a good gander of the candy-toy game Tomy/Kaiyodo had out several years before the American game with the clicking bases. I've seen some for sale on e-Bay from foreign sellers. I like those figures better. A few mos. ago I included a pic of the Pika next to an American game Pika in my column. I'll try to snap s'more comparison shots of the other figures sometime, but as readers know, I don't have much time and my home PC takes like 10 min. to load ONE pic... :( Glad to hear someone else found the game and liked it! :)

Haven't seen any around here for awhile, but luckily I've gotten all the characters from the first set and groundbreakers starters. From what I've heard groundbreakers is going to release in March now? I hope it doesn't get pushed back again...my wife and I like pokemon, and this is one of the few "nerd games" I can get her to play with me. lol Anywhoooo, since I'm new here, let me say I'd be glad to help if anyone needs information on certain figures...as for collecting them....look on the internet..that's where I found most of mine once I got the viewable figures from Wally world. You can actually find most of them for 2-4 dollars a figure if you look hard enough. Though, you may have to shell out a little more for rarer and more wanted figures like Brock, Abra, ect.
Edit: Go figure..I post this, then my wife and I go to the mall....anywoo, it would seem KB toys, or at least my closest one (35 minutes away) had some starters from both Next Quest and Groundbreakers as well as a few 1 figure boosters from Next Quest...so, just a heads up.

I live in a total Cowtown (despite 1,000,000 pop. in the area...); I have yet to find a comic shop that has 'em loose/used. Most of the shops stopped selling Pokemon cards a long time ago. I went to Origins on a Saturday and none of the dealers had 'em loose, either (as far as I saw). I had a good laugh in 2007--the Pokemon tourneys were going on and Cardhaus didn't bring ANY Pokemon merch. to sell. LOL. Most of my local shops don't even sell Pokemon cards loose/used... It's frustrating; but I think the big box stores just beat 'em down so... Oh and say, did I just hear that Heroclix is no more-? I'm wondering what direction Poke merch. will go next year. We do have Platinum on the U.S. horizon and the new Shaymin movie. I hope Jakks does a mini-plush for the movie. :) But s'more trading figures would be nice! I'm guessing I'll never see the Tomy/Kaiyodo candy-toy version again, though. Too bad...

yeah this game looks really cooll, i just got my two starters from amazon, and i will be looking at the toy's r us's around here, but so far i found the most on ebay, maybe if enough of us keep buying em and looking for them they will get released faster lol
Additional Comment:
So when you attack a pokemon and it's a purple and it says jump over the defending pokemon, what happens to the defending pokemon? Does it get knocked out or skip a turn or what??
