(No, I am not advertising. But people usually get excited about Harry Potter-related stuff, so this fairy tale collection will be highly anticipated.)
Wow, sweet. Does anyone know how much it's gonna cost, though?
I couldn't find information about that anywhere.
I'm excited about new Harry Potter related books, though I have to say that I'd have preferred something like Fantastic Beasts again or that long overdue Encylopedia, but whatever, it'll do.

I would have preferred "The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore". More into that whole "secksual orientation" thing that J.K. was talking about in newsweek.
Nothing against it, I just want more proof!

There would only be a chapter about it; it would be published under the putative name of Rita Skeeter; and if you are looking for "proof" in anything Rita Skeeter writes, you don't know the difference between truth and lies.

Yikes. Retract the claws...
Veritaserum works wonders. Besides, lies or not, it'd be an interesting read.

The last time someone slipped Veritaserum in my tea, I ended up talking about a sexual fetish in front of the Muggle Studies professor...very embarrasing.

Haha, have you seen the Potter Puppet Pals yet? Reminds me of Snape talking about his lust for potions.

If you have then you shouldn't be.
In Deathly Hallows we're introduced to this book which contains a bunch of different tales, one of which is the tale of the three brothers. [And of the Deathly Hallows]
Open up the chapter "The Deathly Hallows" in the seventh book to refresh your memory.

It's the story about the three brothers confronted by death, and given 3 wishes. 1 takes the Elder Wand, 1 the Resurrection Stone, and 1 the Invisibility Cloak.

Actually, no. That's one of the tales in the book.
You seriously believe she'd publish a book at 13$ that is basically three pages ripped out of book seven in her handwriting?

some of the stories are The Fountain of Fair Fortune, The Tale of the Three Brothers, and Babbity-Rabbity and Her Cackling Stump.
i think another one is The Warlock's Hairy Heart

There are 5 stories in The Tales of Beedle the Bard; J.K. Rowling said in an interview that she originally envisioned there to be about 30, but when she started handwriting them 7 times she decided to bring it down to 5. Can't really blame her. :D
The stories are:
- The Wizard and the Hopping Pot, about a selfish wizard and a one-footed cauldron which plagues him...
- The Fountain of Fair Fortune, about 3 witches and an inept knight who pursue a fountain that will supposedly grant one wish to the first person to bathe in its waters...
- The Warlock's Hairy Heart, an extremely dark story about a wizard who uses dark magic to prevent himself from ever falling in love, seeing it as a path to foolishness...
- Babbity Rabbity and Her Cackling Stump, about a Muggle king who wishes to control all of the magic in his kingdom, hiring a magic teacher (in fact merely a Muggle conman) in order to do so...
- And The Tale of the Three Brothers, the story from Deathly Hallows about the 3 gifts that 3 brothers choose from Death, and the separate paths that their gifts take them on...
I'm most interested in the bonus material myself. Apparently there's stuff about Aberforth, Nearly-Headless Nick, the Elder Wand, etc. that are illuminated through personal notes from Albus. Should be a good dry run for the Encyclopedia, whenever that comes out.

The original 7 editions were in her own handwriting, which is part of the reason why they're so valuable.
The mass-produced copies will almost certainly be typed.

I was very curious and interested about this when I read it in HP7. Looks like short fairy tale novels like The Tortoise and the Hare. Hope JKR doesnt go with that approach

I misunderstood your original post. My apologies. I thought you meant that the books were all going to be in her handwriting but she didn't want to have to write them all out. Either way, I'll pick up the book fo' sho.

It's amazing how much you miss detail. Obviously you've only read the seventh book ONCE. I urge you to go re-read the chapter where Harry, Ron, and Hermione go visit Xenophilus Lovegood.
"Oh, you have it in the original?" said Xenophilus.
See? It has been TRANSLATED.

I thought you were asking "How can she publish this in English if it was written in Ancient Runes?" Yes, you were asking that.

Additional Comment:
Something must be terribly wrong if no one's talking about this.

JKR didnt write Dumbledore's persona as a youknowwhat while she was doing the books. It's just something she commented on after she finished because shes 'for the cause'

No, she most certainly wrote Dumbledore as gay, at least in Deathly Hallows. Its in the subtext typically, but it's there clear as day in his relationship with Grindelwald.
And I very much object to your reference to homosexuals as "youknowhat"s.

Really? The same as that there's PROOF that Aberforth did nasty things with goats? *cough* zoophilia *cough*
Technically, fifty years from now, people who read Harry Potter won't know Dumbledore's a homosexual just from reading the novels. They might be able to look it up on The Grid, or read a Writer's Biography of J.K. Rowling. But reading the book itself won't give them any clues.

I need to get it.
Just got it and read it. I liked it, actually, but the tales are awfully short and there's only 5 of them, one of which we have already read - kinda disappointing.
Anyway, my favorite was The Fountain of Fair Fortune.

Go read Grimm's Fairy Tales. Or Hans Christian Anderson. Those will keep you occupied for about two years.

I like the fountain of fair fortune best. The stories are just as good as other fairy tales generally, but what really make it good is the commentary.
