View Full Version : The reasons why GSC, RSE and DP were subpar.

R/S/E and D/P fail because the rival is lame.

To an extent G/S/C too... Silver not being the league champion was complete idiocy. He was just a guy that you can beat up as a warmup...

R/S/E May and Brendan stunk, the last battle was against their lvl 34 unevolved starter. ...

D/P rival stinks too.

Gary was the best rival, now and forever. :)

That's it? You didn't like the rival?

Not saying you're wrong, just saying it's kinda shallow.

D/P felt short. Not enough challenge. R/S made a complete drop of the other games, so I couldn't retrieve my Cyndaquil. That sucked. The treecko family was the only good pokemon introduced in that set in my opinion.

G/S/C, I have to disagree with you. Too many awesome pokemon were introduced and too many good features were used to say it was bad.

On that note, FR/LG kinda fell short too when compared to R/B/Y.

Exactly. Goodbye my first lvl 100, Jolteon.

RBY was awesome, so they made a remake
GSC was awesome, but no remake.

Oh the humanity!

G/S/C had an Xtra bonus feature, the ability to visit Kanto. That made your journey twice as long. The only downside was, I didn't like the choices of starters.

GSC let you get Shinies and PokéRus. There was almost nothing wrong with the game period.
RSE Was a failure because they don't have no link to the previous games so you can't "Catch 'em All"
DP doesn't have a good story and was to short in my eyes. C'mon it's a DS game it should he harder than that.
RBY was the best for the reason they had the strongest pokemon league.

Good point. They had almost perfected the series. Why take those things away from the game for, what?, 9 years?

PokeRus and Shinies are still able to find even on DP >.>

They had almost perfected the series.

Imo,
RSE has the best pokebag interface
RBY had the best main storyline
GSC was the best overall
D/P had the best graphics, but was too slow
GSC was cool because there was a 2nd world to explore (except the gym leaders were easy-ish and it wasn't really that awesome)

:)

That's a good point on GSC. I enjoyed returnin 2 Kanto. It made the game longer.

I was expecting this to be some sort of shallow nintendo forum esque flamefest. I'm glad it's not anywhere near what I thought.

anyway, I personaly liked the red haired rival. He was a bit better than gary but not really a rival. in fact he was what you explained, except I lost to him alot. G/S/C were my favourite games (silver being the one I had). It was just so fun and the world was so big. I have the music from it on my Ipod fI liek that game so much.

R/S/E were the worst ones (IMO) yet the biggest revivlal of the series. everyone I knew had the game, even the "cool kids". it was jsut too small of a land and I didn't like the pokemon. plus teh bad guys were just dumb.

D/P I own it but it's not really the 5 star game of the seires. the charcters you play as are cheesy, like your rival and the pokemon maneged to get weirder. they almost start to get Akira weird in my eyes. the villains were better but that was it.

my only beef with Silver: the save battery died. I had to restart once then the second game I played died. It doesn't save anymore. it's a big bummer.:(

You're trying to say Pokemon games have not been good since 1999, and because the rivals were a disappointment. You crazy.

Technically, the characters in GSC and RSE weren't rivals in the same sense as Gary(Blue), going by the "story" in the games.

Silver(I played Gold, so that's what I named him) did not look to you as a rival but as an obstacle in his way of revenge. He was more concerned with defeating Team Rocket, whereas your goal was to defeat the pokemon league.

Brendan/May did not share your goal of defeating the Pokemon League(If that was not the percieved goal of the main character, there would have been other ways to advance through the plot than defeating gym leaders, such as finding so many pokemon). They were just researchers that wanted to help their father.

Damian(First default name, I believe) was your rival, whereas Lucas/Dawn were allies. Damian wasn't cool though. He didn't have that uppity, superior tone that was meant to rile you up when you fought Gary(Blue). He was just having a good time and got along with you too well.

I played Blue, but I call Gary Blue anyways because the hot colors are considered by most people as the main storyline, with the cool colors complimenting.

So, imo:

RBY wins for rival, cause it really had the only rival.
GSC wins for story and cool pokemon.
RSE doesn't win.
D/P wins for connectivity.

RSE had the expansive water areas, which I liked. I thought the rival's disappearance midway through the game was pretty odd, though.

I think that D/P should have had Paul as a rival
Damien should have been R/S/E's rival

I think it really sucks how the E4 leader isn't the rival anymore

Hopefully 5th generation will change that :)

Yeah, but then Paul wouldn't have been in the anime. The other character never gets into the anime(Silver, Crystal, Brendan, Damian, Lucas).

Generation II was my favorite series. I really enjoyed the story, the new places and new Pokémon, and I liked the mythology of the Legendary Pokémon. It seemed to tell an interesting story more than any of the other games, which were more like "this happened long ago". I hope for a remake soon, because I’m worried I won’t be able to play them anymore with the battery wear-out problem.

I also enjoyed Generation IV a lot, not as much as II, but more than the Hoenn games. Then again, I never actually owned a Hoenn-based game and only played through once with a borrowed cartridge. FireRed and LeafGreen, to me, were no different from the originals as far as affecting my liking for them.

Incase you didn't know I was orignial 133tSneasel...

and now on with my rant.

It's because it's the same formula, they just change a few things here and there, The Pokemon, the story a little bit, but really it stays the same. and usually rivals leave and go on, for the next generation. The original will always be the best, but they also inproved on it in G/S/C, and Ruby and Sapphire, brough a whole new game to it. I have to say I miss the rivals, but what can you do. I'd like to see more stuff with the bad guys, but what can do you? Pokemon players have been begging for a G/S/C remake, but it probably won't happen.

R/B/Y, it had the whole beginning of it, so the story line and everything was pretty much set in stone, some of the move only work in certain contextes, and you pretty much knew everything that was going to happen with you Rival and gym leaders

G/S/C, brought more to the Pokemon challenge it added some funky new characters and new life into the world, we need to thank them for making those new Pokemon, because we wouldn't be able to have the D/P new Pokemon.

Ruby and Sapphire brought some cool new Pokemon, but it wasn't that greatest thing in the world, I thnk we could have done with out that, or made it better, I'll tell you this. I never would have never seen some of the POkemonand challenges that came out of this

Diamond and Pearl, way to long, but same formula, new Pokemon. They shoudl have gone back to your roots of the old, but nothing really came too.

Yeah I think D/P and R/S/E were rehashed carbon copies of each other...

simply because of nostalgia do I think that R/B/Y was the best; if Gamefreak were to get their collective acts together and remake G/S on the DS, without the laggy battle system and a higher leveled Elite Four, then I would definately buy it.

The rival being the league champion is silly anyway. You start out at the same time, and the second your rival becomes champion, you also beat the Elite 4 and you battle him? He ends up being the champion for like 2 seconds. Ludicrous.
