I need some help with my Gardevoir. After hatching 163 eggs, I finally found a Ralts with good IVs and a modest nature. The problem now is the EV distribution. The old standard for Gardevoir on the old board looked like this if I remember correctly;

Gardevoir@Lum Berry
Modest Nature

Psychic
Calm Mind
Rest
Thunderbolt

EVs: 252 Sp. Att., 252 Def., 6 HP

Things have changed a bit now and this is the current standard (changes are in bold);

Gardevoir@Leftovers
Modest Nature

Psychic
Calm Mind
Thunderbolt
Will~o~Wisp

EVs: 252 HP, 252 Sp. Att., 6 Def

These are my Gardevoir's possible IVs (at Level 78);

HP: 27, 28
Att: 18, 19
Def: 15
Sp. Att: 31
Sp. Def: 20, 21
Speed: 25

Before checking with the board, I EV trained my Gardevoir in Defense, (252 EPs) Spec. Attack (252 EPs) and HP (6 EPs). What I'm asking is have I done the right thing? Or should have I put 252 EPs in HP and 6 EPs in Defense like in the new standard? Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that my Gardevoir has the Trace ability unfortunately. I tried so hard to get Synchronize but to no avail :(

Defense EVs aren't great when you've already got Will-o-Wisp for physical protection. With that set, you need Synchronize for status protection because you no longer have Rest. HP EVs are almost always better, except with something with high HP and low defenses. Also consider the Leftovers threshold.

And I always put the remaining 4 EVs in speed.

Thank you very much Fallen Ronin :)

This is the moveset for my Gardevoir:

Gardevoir@Lum Berry
Modest Nature
Ability: Trace

Psychic
Calm Mind
Rest
Thunderbolt

EVs: 252 Def., 252 Sp. Att., 6 HP

I can't do very much about Trace and the fact that it does not know WOW unfortunately. It does have rest though in the case of a status abnormality. Also, its Defense IV is 15 while its possible HP IVs are 27 and 28. Does that mean I did the wrong thing in EV training it in Defense rather than in HP? Any help would be appreciated.

At this rate, I'm going to be hatching even more eggs :(

No no... Here is your standard:

Gardevoir@lum berry
252 Spatk, 252 HP, 6 matters not
-T-bolt
-psychic
-WoW / Toxic
-Calm Mind

Nature? = modest

No, you need Leftovers for recovery. The tank-like abilities you recieve from Will-o-Wisp and Calm Mind don't help as much when you have no way to recover, and you will die much more rapidly. And Toxic doesn't lower attack, the idea is that Will-o-Wisp gives you physical protection while the special defense boost (and naturally higher special defense) ward off special attacks.

Also, you don't have to survive THAT long, you're not stalling them out with Wrap, Leech Seed, and Toxic, the damage is based on your attacking (plus a little from Will-o-Wisp) and Rest keeps you from doing that. She's a special attacker, not a tank.

Thanks everyone, but what I meant was what would be the perfect EV distribution for the moveset I mentioned in my second post i.e.

Gardevoir@Lum Berry
Modest Nature
Ability: Trace

Psychic
Calm Mind
Rest
Thunderbolt

EVs: 252 ?, 252 Sp. Att., 6 ?

I managed to hatch another Ralts with even better IVs than the previous one so I'm asking what would be the perfect EV distribution for the set posted above before I make another mistake in training it. I gave up on WOW after I hatched 216 eggs each containing a Ralts with bad IVs and/or an unsuitable nature (It kept inheriting the wrong IVs form its parents :mad: )

HP IVs are generally more desirable than defensive EVs, with exceptions like Wailord. So either 252 speed or HP, and for the remainder, either HP or speed (or defense). With Rest, you'll probably be playing more defensively, so HP EVs would be better, but if you're just using it for a one-time no delay Chesto-Rest, you'd be playing more offensively in which case speed EVs would be more desirable.
