Oh, WHY Wizards WHY?

You were on a roll with January, a bit of February, lots of March and definitely April. Then you flopped in May and now June too?

July: Celebrate the Red, White and Blue with... Squire! Sorry, no Lightning Angel!

So let's see so far:

January = Remand (Ravnica)
February = Tormod's Crypt (The Dark, Timeshifted)
March = Eternal Witness (Fifth Dawn)
April = Tendrils of Agony (Scourge)
May = Pendelhaven (Mirage, Timeshifted)
June = Resurrection (Core Set, Timeshifted)

Please, PLEASE do not give us another Timeshifted card for July.

I would much, much rather have playable Extended cards than useless Standard cards.

I get why they want to change it, so people don't get the foil at FNM and be sad they can't play with it in T2. There are two things wrong with this:

1) FNM, at least my FNM, is not the stalwart bastion of scrubdom that Wizards seem to think it is. Sure, new players show up there, but the majority of players know what they are doing. Telling someone "You win a card, but it's not legal in this format" opens their eyes to different formats, all of which are less played than Standard. If we can get a couple new Extended or Legacy players, that's great.

2) If you're going to print playable Standard promos, print PLAYABLE Standard Promos. Pendelhaven was OK because it's playable in any green deck with a 1/1 in it. Nobody uses Resurrection at all.


It is beyond easy to look at the common Extended or Legacy archetypes and see what uncommons are played in them. They printed half the Threshold deck last year. Even Dread Return would have been better as a promo here, since Dredge plays it. In Standard, there is a whole ton of Coldsnap stuff that is hard to find since nobody bought boxes of Coldsnap. Any of that (Ironfoot for example) would be a great promo.
