View Full Version : General Plot Speculation - The Pyramid Theory *Spoilers for OotP*

This is a theory I found on another board, and modified it with some of my own ideas. Basically, the theory states that all the books are connected in somewhat of a pyramid shape. Books 1 and 7 are the base of the pyramid, then 2 and 6 on the next step up, then 3 and 5, then, the climax of the series at this point, book 4 at the top. So, it looks something like this:

...........4.............
......3..........5.......
...2................6....
1......................7.

So, thinking under this idea, the only connestions we have to go from right now are those from books 3 and 5. Such as:

-In book 3, we are introduced to Hippogryffs, which represent love in mythology, and they are ridden to save Sirius. In book 5, we are introduced to Thestrels, which represent death, and they are ridden to try to fail to save Sirius.

-In book 3, we meet Sirius and he's successfully saved. In book 5, we lose Sirius and they fail to save him.

-In book 3, we hear one of Trelawney's prophecies first-hand. In book 5, we hear about her other prophecy, coming to us second-hand.

etc. The point is, the exact opposite of many events in Prisoner of Azkaban happened in Order of the Phoenix. If this continues (and I realize that's a huge "if"), under the pyramid theory, one could make assumptions like the following:

- Ginny was saved in book 2, so she'll die in book 6.

- In book 1, Harry lost something dear to him (his family), and Voldemort lost his powers. So, maybe in book 7, Voldemort loses something dear to him, and Harry loses his powers. And what is most precious to Voldemort? Judging form his "nothing is worse than death" lines in OotP, Voldemort treasures his own life above all. Maybe Harry has to give up his powers to kill Voldemort once and for all?

However, I realize the chances of any of this having any relevance to future books are very slim. We really need book 6 to tell if there's any truth to this theory at all; I just thought it was kind of cool. The original theory can be found here (http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=245&topic=15009222), if anyone's interested.

That is a very good theory, i like it, but i hope it doesnt happen because i dont want Harry to lose his powers.

I hadn't picked up on that, but Voldemort places his life above all else?.... yes, I can see that now...
:O He's Nom Anor! So that's where the sithspawn went! :p

. . . must I constantly compare HP to NJO...?

Personally though, I don't think this "pyramid" things means much...
I mean, JK's already said there's a part she was going to use in book 1 that's in book 6, and that if we want clues for the ending to look in book 2.
So it's the other way round. :p
still... I think there's a lot of foreshadowing throughout the whole series... you know what JK's like for clues...

Yeah, that is a good theory. Definitely something to think about. Another person once stated a thing about the pattern of the Defense Against the Dark Art teachers.

Book One: Quirrel [Voldemort Supporter (due to Voldy being attached to his head)]
Book Two: Lockhart (Bad teacher but not for Voldemort)
Book Three: Lupin (Great Teacher and Dumbledore supporter)
Book Four: Moody/Crouch (Voldemort Supporter)
Book Five: Umbridge (Bad teacher but not for Voldemort)

Follow me? Every three books it repeats. In other words:

Books 1, 4, and 7 should have a Voldemort supporter.
Books 2 and 5 have a bad teacher that's not for Voldemort.
Books 3 and 6 should have a great teacher and Dumbledore supporter.

Now this I've drawn up on my own. In order to complete the pattern, book six has Charlie and Bill be D.A.D.A. and Book 7 is Snape who ends up on Voldy's side.

Maybe!

All I'm saying is that J.K. just may work in patterns, only she doesn't consider it gospel.

I would think that Hogwarts would be more careful in choosing a new DatDA teacher after what happened in books 1,4, and 5.

Hermione maybe dies? If she and Harry do get together and that happens, a good ending. :) But Harry dying might be better, if he dosen't, crappy after series.

This new theory might possibly be the best that I've heard. Everything about it seems pretty true, and knowing that Harry might have to give up his powers to stop Voldemort seems reasonable.

seriously, guys, how can you say this theory works out? There's only been one working example.
If you try to analyze things like this too much, then everything turns out to be linked to everything, and nothing means everything, and everyone gets a headache.

let it slide, j0.

By that, I have a theory.

In book 7, the new DAtDA teacher could very well be Narcissa Malfoy. I got this from the Live Chat thing with Mrs. Rowling:

Wild Rose: Will we see more of Narcissa Malfoy now that Lucius is unavailale?
JK Rowling replies -> Yes, you will.

So, if the Pyramid Theory is correct, Narcissa may very well turn over to Voldemort after Lucius was arrested and thrown into Azkaban. She could get sent to Hogwarts to kill Harry in book 7, as Voldemort's last resort.

Since Book 6's DAtDA teacher is supposed to be a nice guy, it could be Charlie, Bill, Fleur, or a new character

Whoa! I hope that's true. That'd kick arse.

meh...If you hadn't realized, J.K's never introduced a DaDa teacher before the book he/she's in.

.... neither she has...
Wow, I hadn't noticed that, but you're right. We always get introduced to them before we know they're the new teacher, but never in an earlier book. Even Lupin wasn't mentioned...

see, guys? Over-analyzing things... pfft...
