Why doesn't it seem like anybody in the Harry Potter Universe actually tries to do Magic? If you have the ability to and the chance to learn to do magic, in which you can BLOW THINGS UP, then why don't you.

Also, why's there only like 1 or 2 asians in Harry Potter. what's up with that? Lol.

well most of these people have been doing it all their lives, so it's probably no big deal. I guess I'm surprised Harry didn't go dive into all those cool spell books and learn as much as he could when he started, but that would be kinda lame if Harry didn't follow some kind of path as the rest of his class. As for the Asians, yeah it's in England. Besides there are other wizarding schools, remember.

i think it was in the spiderman movie where they said "with great power comes great responsibility". so it's something like that for magic in the harry potter world. just because you can blow things up doesn't mean that you'll do it. same with guns: you don't go shooting everything and using your gun all the time.

I'm pretty sure that's not what he meant. He was probably thinking about the huge books of spells that are the students' textbooks and the fact that they learn things like blocking spells in the middle of their school life. In reality, when one thinks about it, had one of us been Harry, we'd be hitting the books learning as much as possible and trying out new magic, not waiting til year 3 or 4 for that kind of magic. However, the reason is probably that it's harder than it looks and that JK only reveals the part of her world where the result is written about.

I could order 20 books on bomb making on amazon right now and learn how to make bombs, but I'm too lazy. There's almost no limit to what I can do with time and effort, even without magic, but I'm sitting here on the internet instead. Magic people are lazy too.

Well, there are the good and bad i guess... but if everyone in this world had a gun or some sort of weapon, would u destory humanity, or live peacefully? Obvious there's some with a mind not to, but i'm sure most of us want peace. Same thing with magical people.

that was a horrible comparison. hehe. there's a huge difference betwen all the parts needed for a bomb (as well as its function) and a magical stick. cmon now.

I doubt it's any easier to make a wand than it is to make a bomb. If it was, harry would just pick up a random stick and put a unicorn hair in it. And none of the characters would go to school in the first place if it was easy to learn magic.

Definitely. If magic were an easy thing Hogwarts wouldn't exist and there would be little basis for the story.

Yeah, I know we could all just as easily make bombs as Harry can learn Explosive Magic, but he's in the school to learn Magic. Since he's there and learning it anyways, why not do a little bit more in the self-defense/kick evil's butt category?

I you were in a school where people were showing you how to fire pistols and sniper rifles, wouldn't you pick up a P-90 or bazooka and try it too?

First of all, I don't believe all the spells they teach students can be used in a duel. Most of the spells we have seen taught in classrooms seem to be more useful around the house than in a battle.

With that being said, I believe they are learning spells outside of class that could be used in a battle. These spells are usually called hexes in the books.

Also, if magic got out of hand, then they'd most likely reveal themselves to the muggle word. There are more muggles than there are non-muggles, so it could go very, very nasty.
