well, Ive been looking for a new anime to watch... but I cant find anything to obscure...
Hunter x hunter is the last thing I watched, and the most obscure probably...
so what are some really obscure animes you've seen... Im thinking about seeing E's otherwise, but have heard bad reviews...

Try Earthian. I'm pretty sure that's not a frequently-seen anime. :D I love it.

Tokyo Battalion, if that's the correct name. Saw it on the action channel like two-three months ago. Street Fighter 2 Which what I thought was a decent one. I still like Blue Gender even though it's been shown on Adult Swim.

Hmmm....there was a very interesting anime I saw that had choppy character/backgrounds but very fluid animations. Demon Stone or Demon Drive I think it was called

Scrapped Princess is really good. It's not really well known but that's because it's more new, rather than obscure. It just got liscensed recently, so good like trying to find it if you decide to start it.
I've seen the first two eps of E's otherwise. They were so-so. I got kinda bored, but it looks like it could get better as it progresses.

Eh, Serial Experiments Lain I guess... It's kind of known, but not a lot of people have watched it...

Death Zieder...it is a mix of Ruroni Kenshin and Gunbrave/Trigun
Gotta love the bloody ones....it is always nice to see blood and gore.
If it is well known it does not qualify because it is suppose to be unheard of anime.Which I guess is not frequently seen/heard of..Anything on cable/digital/satilite TV can be counted out.
Anyways,I don't know about this but I have never heard of anyone who has heard of this or anything...but Harlock Saga is a really good one.

3 x 3 eyes and Silent Mobius...That's about as obscure as anime gets, except Silent Mobius is kinda known, but not much.

I'm about to start Ragnarok-Demon Detective Loki, it seems fairly obscure because I've never heard it mentioned here.
I know I've seen a Ragnarok manga title, but I'm not sure if its the same one.

Ooo...I'm waiting for this to come out from ADV. I'll second Scrapped Princess. Tsukihime, Gundam X, and Kenran Butoh Sai: The Mars Daybreak are my other favorites.

your talking about Tokyo Babylon i saw it when it aired in may also. i iked Strett Fighter II V also i thought it was alright. Fist of the north star is awesome not many american anime fans know of it but it was a popular anime in japan. umm i love 3x3 eyes i saw that last month on the action channel they showed both 3x3 eyes series i thought the characters yakimo and pai were awesome. umm i don't know if many people know of Vandred i like that currently watching that on the action channel lol i know its an action channel theme they show tons of anime more. also Blue Gender isn't obscure.
Fist of the North Star was awsome.I don't see it on Showtime Beyond anymore unfortunately.....

thats because Starz the action channelowns the rights to the series a ton of other series including hellsing and Vandred and movies such as Cowboy bebop the movie , akira, Perfect Blue and Ghost in a shell. they have a ton of anime if they wanted to i bet they could start their own 24 anime channel thats how much anime they have i think i saw the Tekken movie on that channel before also.

Gunslinger Girl and Melody of Oblivion
Gunslinger Girl is about an Italian organization that takes terminally ill girls and turns them into cybernetic special operatives. There are some awesome, though brief, action sequences, and there's good character development as well.
Melody of Oblivion is... well, I can't really describe it, let me just say that in one scene a bus suddenly sprouts legs and horns and charges at the characters  There's lots of bow and arrow and motorcycle action. It's a GAINAX show, that sums it up best.
Both are perhaps fairly well known as fansubs, but relatively unknown to the mainstream anime watcher.

Tokyo Babylon is my best friend. Seriously. I first saw it around a year or two ago, and now I'm reading the manga as it is being translated by Tokyopop. I own the first volume of the manga and I have the bilingual DVD for the anime episodes.
*points to sig* Tokyo Babylon's by CLAMP, one reason why I like it.

It's not. This is Ragnarok Loki (http://www.websunday.net/theater/movie/mp7_gash.asx) The other one would've made a greta anime.

Well I love Angel Sanctuary
AS isn't for everybody and the ending to the OVA is so unfulfilling. Angel Sanctuary has some odd interpretations and statements to make about Christian lore and the incestuous romance might make some people uncomfortable ,but for the open minded it's an anime that is beautiful and affects its veiwers emotionally.

There is actually anime by the name of Ragnarok: The Animation.
This must be the adaptation of the ragnarok manga that is in stores, since I haven't heard of any other animes with ragnarok in the title.

I've seen Angel Sanctuary, and I liked it a lot. Setsuna has serious issues, but whatever. It's still a really neat series. :D You pretty much summed it up.

Orphen or Sorcerer Stabber Orphen or Majutsusji Orphen is a pretty good (pretty clean, in my opinion) show. It's about a sorcerer named Orphen who's on a quest involving the mysterous Bloody August dragon. Plus the opening are great. (Sharan Q, baby!) There's also a 2nd season called Orphen's Revenge.
I think it's shown on Anime Network, but I don't think a lot of people get that channel.
If you're looking for a trip, try getting Rumiko Takahashi's old stuff before Ranma 1/2. Lum* Urusei Yatsura, Maison Ikkoku (<- very good), Firestarter, Mermaid Scar... There's probably more, but those are the ones I've seen.

I've just recently started watching Kyou Kara Maou, Gantz, and Midori no Hibi, just to name a few. They are sort of popular in Japan, but not to many people know about them here.

3 x 3 Eyes was tight, but short...
Shadow Skill was tight, but short too...
Vandread so far is tight (not sure if it is well known)...
X is my favorite of all time (not the movie, the series that was on Japanese TV (there is a dubbed version) and manga).

wings of honneamise (aka royal space force)is an excellent film that few have ever or will ever see. Brought to you by the sci-fi legends at Gainax studios, this film is a true cinematic gem that even outshines most of the Hayao Miazaki catalogue. I would recommend hunting it down bbut the english dub is royally pathetic and makes poor use of the wonderful license.
A Wind Called Amnesia, Green Legend Ran, Maze and Photon are other obscure animes I know of.
