Jason had finally fallen asleep after hours of pacing in his apartment, haunted by the memories even in his sleep. As sunlight brushed through his window and lit up the room, he tossed and turned, throwing sheets down onto the heavily carpeted floor and groaning and mumbling, "No", repeatedly in his sleep.

Dream

---------

Jason's chocolate brown eyes widened a little as he stared upwards, watching a bunch of storm clouds pass over him, their dark, shadowy presence covering the ground with a dark film, obscuring the golden beams of the sun from sight. He didn't notice as two darker shadows neared him. Only when they spoke did he notice that he was being watched.

"Human. . ." a hauntingly familiar female voice hissed, an angry tone to it.

"Partner. . ." added in a similarly familiar male voice, sounding sad.

"What?!" he exclaimed, leaping up away from the base of the tree he was lying under. "Who are you?" Shadows. . . dark shadows. . . covered every part of the area he was standing in. As he stared at the very differently shaped shadows in front of him, fear filtered through him, freezing him to where he stood.

"Human, you will pay," the larger shadow whispered, its form looking even darker with each moment that passed.

"What did I do to you?" he demanded, eyes widened.

"You know," she snarled, drawing close to him. "You always knew. . ." She held her hand up and watched as a beam of red, fiery energy formed in it. "Say goodbye. . ." Suddenly the smaller shadow leapt up into range and was hit by the energy ball, scattering it into pieces of dark data.

"Even to this day, that Digimon suffers for you, human," the taller shadow snarled.

"Why-- why--" he stammered, wide eyed and confused.

"Why what? Why haven't I killed you yet? I'll rectify that, just give me a minute." The Digimon neared him, a shadowy weapon in its hands. It started glowing in power and Jason reacted instinctively and put his hands over his face in a defense attempt.

"NO!" he yelled, startling himself awake and thrusting forward with one hand into the air. "Oh God," he groaned, running a hand through his sweat soaked hair.

"Jason?" a soft voice asked as a teenaged girl walked into his room, her eyes wide and sleepy-looking. She yawned and rubbed at them before padding across his soft carpet and sitting on the edge of his bed.

"What, Star?" he asked in a thin, exhausted tone.

"Are you ok?" she asked, resting a hand on his arm, recoiling suddenly as she felt the cold sweat covering it.

"Yes," he said slightly irritably, turning to look her in the eyes.

The sixteen year old shrugged, brushing her messy, long black hair out of her eyes. "Jason, I'm going to get online then."

"Fine," he grumbled, watching as his recluse of a sister walked out of his room and entered hers. Beeping was heard from the computer as he drifted off a little but a sudden memory brought him back to reality and he sat straight up. Star had made him forget about the dream for a while but now it had hit him again and he quickly got out of bed and started to get dressed. Once he was in the casualest things in his closet, a white shirt and brown slacks, he stepped into his sister's room and crossed his arms over his chest, watching a little as she typed very quickly to someone.

"What do you want, Jason?" she asked, turning her chair around to face him.

"I want to borrow your computer a minute."

"Oh, Jason, no," she said, standing up and staring at him. "You know what happened the last time you went to the Digiworld." There was a silent pact between the two that neither would mention the fire that had killed their parents and the events leading up to it.

"I know," he said, stepping forward.

She reached out and pressed her hand into his. "Just be careful, bro, ok?" When she removed her hand, he was a little surprised to see his old, slightly cracked Digivice in his palm.

"Star. . ."

She smiled up at him and then turned back to her computer, calling up the Digiport that she had a shortcut to right on her desktop.

". . . thanks," he muttered, stretching his hand out to the screen and disappearing into it almost immediately.

-------

Matt backed away, standing beneath a tree now, still close enough to watch this battle.

Garurumon caught his breath and leapt towards Volcadramon, an ice blast streaming from his mouth, and shot it at the humanoid, hoping to keep him from releasing a fire attack for at least a minute but as soon as Garurumon turned around, the Digimon was nearing him again and the ice had melted into a puddle on the ground.

"Stupid pathetic Digimon," Volcadramon exclaimed, angry now. Raising his arm, he exclaimed, "Volca pool!" as an earthquake shook the ground around them and magma shot up through cracks that had appeared in the ground underneath Garurumon in a matter of moments.

Already off balance from the earthquake, the wolf Digimon was engulfed in the lava.

"Garurumon!" Matt yelled, worried, running forward.

"Hmm, you're as dumb as the wolf," the fire Digimon announced, laughing madly before he formed a large fireball in his hand. "Lava burst!" he roared, releasing it right at Matt.

"Agh!" he yelled, jumping to the side just in time to miss the fireball. He landed just feet from where the lava containing Garurumon was at and groaned. "Garurumon!!!" he yelled, his voice echoing through the forest and startling a good amount of Digimon.

"Ah, this is stupid," Volcadramon snarled and, with a snap of his fingers, the lava that had covered Garurumon shot up and hit him, but as he absorbed it, it just succeeded in powering him up even more.

Matt stared at the scorched, unmoving body of Gabumon and looked back at Volcadramon. "You monster," he muttered.

"Hah, maybe I am but no really cares about that. I won't let you defeat me like you did to our so-called leader. The Digimon who truly deserves to be our leader will return and then you Digidestined will see a true monster." As he spoke, he readied another fireball and was just about to aim it at Matt when the foliage around them started rustling. “Who’s there?!” Volcadramon demanded, turning to look towards the greenery.

To their surprise, Jason climbed out and looked back and forth from Matt to Volcadramon. His eyes locked on the latter and his face twisted into a painful grimace. "You!"

"Who are you?" Volcadramon snarled as the ball of flame in his hands disappeared.

"I remember you," Jason said, standing up a little straighter, then brushing some leaves out of his hair in annoyance. "You were the Digimon who deleted my partner!"

"Your partner?" Volcadramon laughed. "I've deleted so many Digimon, I can't remember them all, boy. . ."

Jason's brown eyes turned away from him as he tried to regain his composure and he eyed Matt. "Aren't you one of the Digidestined who was involved with the defeat of MaloMyotismon?"

Matt blinked. "Well, yeah, kind of. Why?"

"Where's your Digimon partner?"

Matt's gaze drifted over to the scorched body of his Digimon and then returned to Jason. "He's--"

Jason noticed what he was looking at and turned to Volcadramon. "I don't believe you." Before he said anything more, he pressed a button on a small palm pilot and sent an automatic email out. The palm pilot had been tweaked by a friend of his and was state-of-the-art, thus the data in the world wouldn't screw it up. In fact, Jason could only use it in the Digiworld-- and only when he was in danger.

Volcadramon glared at him and formed a fireball in each hand, preparing to throw them at the two men. "It is kind of amusing to watch you two squirm when you can't do anything to me," he commented, an evil grin on his face. He threw the fireballs at them, and when they jumped again, he continued throwing them, toying with the humans basically. After they had dodged almost a dozen fireballs, he grew tired of it and raised his arms, yawning mockingly at the two. "Volca--!"

"Jason!" Star's voice echoed through the forest and waves of relief shot through the two as the Digimon paused, looking around for this new intruder. "Go get him!"

Jason blinked. She sounded close-- maybe even right behind him-- and as he looked at the trees and bushes behind him, spotting a bit of his sister's white jacket that she always wore in the Digiworld. "Oh geez," he muttered, turning back in time to see a tall angel with eight massive wings and a purple mask covering most of his face bending over Gabumon. His eyes bugged out; he had seen the Digimon a hundred times before but every time, it still amazed him.

Star creeped out of the bushes and poked her brother in the shoulder. "Did I make good time?"

"Oh, yeah," he said, rolling his eyes.

"Magna Antidote!" MagnaAngemon's strong voice filled the area, and suddenly Gabumon's scorched body was covered in a healing light. Once it ceased, the Digimon stepped back and Gabumon twitched a few times before sitting up, looking a little disoriented.

"What happened?" he asked, looking at Matt.

MagnaAngemon immediately turned to Volcadramon, who had watched all of this as the grin slid off his face. "Excalibur!" he exclaimed, slashing a sword at Volcadramon.

"Nah!" Volcadramon exclaimed, leaping back and chucking a sudden ball of fire at the angel Digimon.

MagnaAngemon dodged and leapt forward, slashing him across the chest with the sword.

"Rargh!" he groaned, data streaming from his wound. Suddenly he raised his arm a third time and the earthquake began anew.

Jason gasped and pulled his sister away from the cracks in the ground that began spreading. "Hold on!" he told her, wrapping her arms around a huge tree that was as far from the earthquake as he could get.

"Ok," she gasped, as the wind picked up around them.

"No!" MagnaAngemon yelled, leaping rapidly away from the cracks but landing awkwardly on the ground. He fell to his knees and stared up at Volcadramon who hit him right in the face with a fireball. He fell back right into the cracks and groaned.

"MagnaAngemon!" Star yelled, unable to see what was happening but hearing his groans through the wind and earth shaking. "No!"

"S-Star," he grunted, pushing himself up and leaping away just before the lava could come forth. He landed heavily and immediately Dedigivolved, weakened. "Star. . ." the higher voice Salamon repeated before falling unconscious.

Volcadramon laughed. "******. . ." Sighing he stepped forward and readied another fireball, preparing to throw it at Salamon and end the Digimon. He stopped as soon as. . .

"Gabumon Digivolve to. . . Garurumon! Garurumon Digivolve to. . ." He stood up on two feet now and torn, blue pants with skulls on them covered his lower body. He kicked at thin air before howling. "WereGarurumon!"

Volcadramon blinked and then remembered his wound in his chest, which caused his anger level to rise. "Argh! Lava burst!" he roared, blasting fireballs at WereGarurumon continuously.

------

Tadahmon yawned, taking over the body of the human that she had resided in for years. Rolling over, she blinked at the two little bits of light that glimmered in the darkness. "Quit watching me," she hissed, kicking her right foot out underneath the covers and sending Spikey flying.

"Hey!" the Digimon exclaimed. "I was sleeping."

"Stupid," the spirit commented, standing up on the bed and stepping softly down onto the floor, dodging around a chair and some stuff on the floor to get to the closet.

"What are you doing?" Spikey demanded in a whisper.

"None of your business. . ." she answered, grabbing a blue sweat shirt from the doorknob and wrapping herself up in it, so her human wouldn't get cold outside.

"Tell me or I'll just go and tell Amy's parents," the Digimon warned.

"Oh like they would believe that some Digimon spirit had taken over their daughter when she was five. . . They didn't even want to trust YOU. It took them years. These people live in some deluded little fairy land where nothing can, or should, be wrong." Tadahmon huffed and walked over to a window, suddenly pulling it open and filling the room with slightly chilly air.

Spikey shivered. "Wait!"

"No." Ignoring her from this point on, Tadahmon pulled the screen behind the window up and climbed slowly, silently, out of it. Before Spikey could follow, she was out and had the screen reshut. Chuckling to herself, the Digimon ran her feet thoughtfully through the dewy grass, looking up at the moon. She loved the night. Sighing, she leaned against the side of the house and yawned vaguely. All these memories that had been annoying her for a few days now kept her from sleeping as peacefully as she did when first on Earth.

It started to rain as she wrapped her arms around her waist. Data flowed around her, flickering like lightning bugs. She turned to look at the neighboring house a minute before feeling a headache coming on. She pushed her hands into the flickering data and felt an electric charge rush through her fingers for a minute. "Ah!" she sighed, flexing her tingling fingers. 'So. . . he's back in the Digiworld. . . right now. . .'
---------

Volcadramon went on the defense almost automatically after WereGarurumon dodged his fireballs and started kicking at him. "All you can do is kick," he grunted, holding his arms in front of his face as a shield as he was drawn back through the forest, leaving the humans behind.

WereGarurumon smirked as a kick landed directly on the Digimon's chest and caused some more data to stream out. Upon looking behind the Digimon, the wolf realized they were nearing a lake. 'Hmm, so he likes playing with weaknesses so much, hmm?' . . . "Yah! Wolf claw" he yelled, slashing at Volcadramon and hitting him with a X shaped energy blast.

Volcadramon hissed out in pain, stumbling backwards, and fell directly into the cool water, steam rising from it almost immediately.

WereGarurumon stood over the pool, watching, waiting, not wanting to be hasty in declaring him defeated. He was concentrating harshly, holding his breath.

Suddenly the water got choppy and its water sprayed around WereGarurumon, slicking his fur down. An eerie golden glow overtook the blue water and suddenly a data-covered being rose from the lake, suddenly not Volcadramon anymore but the mega beast, PileVolcamon! Black armor spread over his body now and a long cloth filtered behind him as flames shot out of his metallic-looking fists. What appeared to be like a wrestling title belt hung loosely around his waist and spikes erupted from both shoulder plates.

WereGarurumon gazed at him in surprise. He hadn't expected him to Digivolve. He stepped back as PileVolcamon stepped forward.

"Are you scared of me now, wolf?"

WereGarurumon half snarled, half howled and leapt forward, his blood red claws bared. "Wolf claw!" he continued leaping around, slashing at the mega who boredly dodged him, not even feeling like fighting back yet. Suddenly his claws embedded themselves in the fire Digimon's vulnerable area between where the belt was and his chest armor ended and slashed open a nice sized gash in almost the same area that it had been before, before the Digivolution had fixed it.

"No!" the flame Digimon hissed, as WereGarurumon was covered in a glow beam of light again.

"WereGarurumon Digivolve to. . ." He fell back onto four feet and metal wings blasted out of his shoulder blades as he flew around and shot missiles at the ground, which covered it in ice as they exploded. "MetalGarurumon!" he howled.

PileVolcamon shook his head. "And here we go with the weakness again."

"It won't matter this time!" MetalGarurumon announced, "Giga missile!" A few missiles shot from different places on his body, exploding against and around PileVolcamon, freezing different parts of his body momentarily until the continuous heat around him melted it.

"Stupid wolf, did you think that would really weaken me?" he asked, stepping forward.

"I think it did," MetalGarurumon said, smirking grimly.

"What?!" PileVolcamon looked down as more data poured out of the wound on his chest. "No! I won't die this easily!" Groaning, he leapt at MetalGarurumon, flames erupting in his pale eyes.

MetalGarurumon blinked in surprise and leapt directly at him, clawing at his wounded chest.

"No!" PileVolcamon snarled, his fists shining brightly. "Diamond fist!" Flames erupted up his fists and then he punched MetalGarurumon right in the face, sending him flying backwards.

"Argh," he groaned in pain, regaining his composure just in time to tackle PileVolcamon and send him flying back into the pond again.

PileVolcamon gaped in disbelief. "No!"

"Hah," MetalGarurumon muttered, standing up steadily again. "Metal Wolf Claw!" He slashed his claw over the water, causing it and PileVolcamon to be covered in ice. The ice covering the Digimon melted very fast but the ice in the lake still remained, freezing him in place.

"What the--!" he snarled, leaning over to punch at the ice with his enflamed fists and free himself.

"GIGA MISSILE!" he yelled, releasing many missiles that slammed into PileVolcamon's chest and face, causing the Digimon to delete before the dust cleared.

MetalGarurumon Dedigivolved as the data streamed through the forest, entering Matt's Digivice and transforming it into one similar to Tai's, except that it was colored blue where his was orange.

Star blinked. "This is the most excitement we've had lately. . ." she murmured, hugging the small puppy Digimon, Salamon, to her.

Jason gazed at her. "Thank God for that, Star." He rolled his eyes and ruffled her hair playfully.

"Hey, stop!" she protested. "I won't save you next time if you keep messing up my hair."

"It was already messed up," he muttered, grinning.

She looked up to discover that she had left the house before brushing her hair and was still in her pajamas. "Oh my God!" She smacked him. "Why didn't you tell me!?"

He laughed.
--------

Tadahmon was standing outside still when a pain shot through her body, sending her crashing to the ground. "What. . .? No. . . Volcadramon. . ." she sobbed, clutching desperately at the dewy green grass with shaking fingers. "Why. . ." How long she stayed there, she couldn't remember afterwards but the cold dew had soaked the human's pajamas all the way through by the time she shakily stood up and re-entered the house, not bothering to be overly quiet this time.

Flashback

---------

Volcadramon and Tadahmon were two of the newest Digimon allowed into the group of Transmutes. They had both just Digivolved to their highest form and were ready for training to master the different abilities their types of Digimon had.

The purple haired digimon sat by the cave that was their headquarters, a golden sword stabbed into the sand between her legs, as she watched Volcadramon set fire to leaves just to watch them burn. A slight glittering of data next to her showed where her remaining weapons were hidden.

He paused suddenly and turned to eye her. He was just as rash as she was; they were both stubborn with tempers and it seemed so natural that they would've met now, when they were allowed into the group of impressive Digimon that many strived to join but never could. Neither were exactly evil, they just wanted to do what the leader of the group commanded them and show their strength as Digimon.

"What?" she asked upon noticing his eyes directly on her.

"What do you think'll happen to us now?" he said suddenly.

"Well. . ." she sat up a little straighter, pulling her sword out of the ground and staring thoughtfully at it. "I think we'll always work together to do what needs to be done. . ."

"Yeah?" He sat down next to her and rested his larger hand over her smaller one, as if to prove their allegiance.

End flashback

--------

She fell into bed, crying softly. "All that gone. . . Me deleted and him dead now too. . ." She could feel it, her only true friend in the Transmutes had been killed. When she got her hands on the Digidestined who was the cause of both tragedies, they wouldn't live to see another day. She swore it.
