Hi, I have a question for you all because I'm not sure what i've got here. At target I found a weird 3 figure pack it contained a diamond variant eevee figure in the spot where the promo figure normally is (it was in a visable spot. other than that the pack was normal. I also found another 3 figure pack that had a diamond variant meowth in the promo spot and a scyther in the second visable spot and then a misty in the hidden spot. Is this normal? I was under the impression that only the ex rare figures had diamond variants and therefore there shouldn't be any diamond eevee or meowth. Any ideas?

I dont believe in America that the figures have rarity. I think you are just as likely to get any figure as any other. These figures dont match with any other release of the game. I am not completely sure on how they chose those diamond figures, but I have seen alot of them as well and they dont match with the other crystal figures in other releases so this must be solely American release. At least those are my thoughts on it.

Hey, thanks for the tip the other day about the "diamond" variants. I wasn't too interested in them, but, the Scyther, on the other hand... :) So now I have a Scyther, a "diamond" Feralgatir (sp? :O sorry...) and an Ekans. I saw at least 5 different "diamond" figures at Target yesterday--I checked several Target stores before finding this new wave of Next Quest 3-packs. A lot of stores in my area do not have them yet. Hehe, Pojo and I discussed the clear figures and we both agreed we prefer painted figures. I'm sure hardcore collectors will want 'em all, but, I guess that's not me... Oh, and since I have 2 of the international figures, yeah, I noticed, too, there are no "rarity" symbols on the US figures. I dunno what PUSA is up to, they haven't updated their TFG site last I looked... L.

PUSA stated that the American release will not have rarities.

I honestly am not too interested in the crystal figures either. They just dont look as good in my opinion. Having said that it is nice to see something in the 3 packs besides the 3. Plus with all the varieties of figures now in that slot plus an extra in the the other slot it makes collecting a little easier. Although every figure I have seen crystal is in the starter sets or visible in single packs or the 2-3 packs. But it is nicer to pick up a feraligatr or absol, than another lugia or salamence.

yeah, the charm of these characters is that they are fantastic models of the characters from the series. The "diamond" version of these characters are just unpainted, clear plastic. It shocks me that if you search for them on Amazon they go for like $24. They aren't special enough to warrant that kind of mark-up, even if they are late.

most the reason for mark-up is that those versions are ultra rare. From the European release or Australia. I have seen only one american one on ebay and it is selling at regular price. Wait a few weeks and our crystals will hit the market.

Yeah, that's exactly right, they are from international sellers. I always check e-Bay to write my Loretta's Toy Blog column for Pojo. I saw an Abra for about $36 and then noticed the seller was in the Philippines. I had scored an Abra in the one and only international pack I bought at Origins and Pojo and I were laughing about the e-Bay price. I guess we should just count our blessings that Pokemon released the game in the U.S. or we'd be paying those prices still-! Oh, say, does anyone on this board have the Tomy/Kaiyodo candy-toy trading figures? I have yet to have heard anywhere on the web (in English, at least) about people playing this game. I have about 22 of those figures... I think I already mentioned this, but, at Origins, the folks running the TFG game kiosk for PUSA knew nothing about those; disappointing because I think it would have been nice for the employees to have been briefed about the history of the game's development. Surely Kaiyodo's preliminary foray into the arena should not be ignored! I thought about adding something to Wikipedia, but, you don't know how bad my web skills are ;) it'd be a worse mess than my column! :O There are 2 sets of rules for that game; the first set of rules came with the first release. The second set of rules approximates a sumo wrestling match where you try to throw your opponent outside the heavy black line on the game board. The grad student that helped me translate and I had a good laugh about that! L.
