Do we have different meta's and are our playstyles differnt?
Im from the uK and most players agree that zombies are crap and are only good if you stack or lucksack. But in the US this deck seems to do well. I was wandering if the area you live in affects the plyers views on cards and even playstyle. I know alot of people who look at the SJC's and netdeck and that deck doesnt do well for them and i tell them becuase are meta is different to americas and playstyles are different. Ive read some feature matches and the players seem to be aggressive and at times over extend which is different to here where players like to play conservatively and wait for the right opening.
Discuss your views on this.
Whats the meta like in your area and what is the overall playstyle.

What is the meta in your area? Most of us run D-Raida, well it's the best deck =/

Here in the Czech Republic we are like 3-4 formats in the past xD people here are beginning to build monarchs and so, and gadgets are so favorite here that it appears everywhere :) . But there are still some people that keep up with the current format in the USA.. (like me and my friends xD)

peerosnally I beleive it has to do with social upbringing. No offence but it a common stereotype that americans go in all guns a-blazing, while the british remain quiet for while till a time that they definately will be able to go in.

Here in vegas the meta is usually the top decks from the last shonen. Lately its been PC, zombies, co burn, and some gadgets. Our playstyles here differ, some are aggro, some are conservative. My play style is actually really flexible, but I too usually tend to lean towards conservative. But if you guys are conservative I can see why you say zombies are bad. That deck you have to be aggro and take risks with.

most people here are good but they play aggressively thats a fact. Due to the change of my deck, i play much more conservatively, except for my life points of course, we all know those don't matter as long as they are over 0.

The states pretty much sets the meta for the world.

Well in Lawton, Oklahoma...their is no particular playset that people play with. Most people tend top play whatever cards they like. My meta also is trap heavy (Most decks have between 6-8 traps or more).
Currently, I've seen about 3 people in the advanced format use burn. The winner in October was a machine deck (Mainly using Cyber's and his fusions). I won in July (Demise OTK) and September (Monarchs). The girl there usually runs a Spellcaster deck of some sort. Another guy usually runs Spellcasters as well, but he changed to burn at the last local tourney.
So my meta is unique. People usually play the style they want. I tend to choose a deck that'll win, but one I can have fun with as well. It's different than a lot of people's meta's, I'm sure.

Well, actually it's not necessarily. The USA is most playing, so it sets the meta most of the time

The Rhode Island scene is not bad. Aside from the couple noobs showing up, we get the usual decks showing up, with some of us offering up fun decks every so often.
But yeh, Boxboro (what I interpret as the MA metagame) was mainly all kinds of Monarch and Demise. They wonder why the dealers were trying to get $10 per Pulling the Rug....

Hmmmmm, bosboro had demise? What did they run in it? (I didn't go to regs)

It's funny though that the US hasn't won worlds in a long time. Last two times it was Italy...must be something in their water...

I live in LV too and its basicly whatever is doing well at SJCs that gets played. Although it did take a while for some players to get their Zombie decks complete with Il Blud everything is played is top tier for the most part. I bring random decks though to make it interesting.. I brought Swing Demise two weeks ago and it was quite fun.
and peterson, your the guy that plays Samurai right? I go to gameworld every other week with my brother.

in my area its the same CC Monarch/Zombie builds with 98% of the cards being exactly the same with only a 1 or 2 card diffrence between 30 or more players

I live in SLC, Utah and our meta is filled with a bunch of netdeckers and then you have the one deck that wins and everyone goes how did that deck even win. I can say there is about 5 of us that don't netdeck.

In NY/NJ/CT, if there is a place for some tough competition, and if you're looking for some playtesting, this is it.
It's brutal!

SO why do people netdeck if the meta is different in each area. Sure copying a good strategy like machine duplication on trooper or the introduction of a new deck is understandable. But netdecking a deck card for card even if it doesnt siute youre play style is kinnda dumb dont u think?

Demise. Gadgets, Burn, D-Raida is what our meta looks like, with the occasional creative decks,

You do realize you discussed the polar opposite of what happened in WWII, right? The Americans dragged their asses and did nothing while they watched the World being overthrown by the Germans. Meanwhile, it was the British and Russians doing the dirty work and asking, "So WTF are those damn lazy yanks waiting for?"
Americans charging in guns blazing is pure fantasy stereotyping. Of course, under Bush, you'd never be able to prove that to anyone.
And yes, the META makes ALL the difference. A deck that is walking into a meta that totally shuts it down will be seen as a crappy deck, ven if it is a god somewhere else where players aren't prepared for it and don't have a clue how to handle it.

At Conclave, the top 8 were:
Zombie Beatdown
Samurai (winner)
Gadgets
Horus Lockdown
Cyberdarks
Earth Beatdown
Total Lockdown (not sure what this entails though)
Competitive E-Heroes
And at the PT stop in Navan, we had a Gearfried/Warriorish deck top 8 (which was mine), but this tournament were mostly kids.
We don't see many Zombie decks here (or at least where I play, which is Dublin mostly, and Navan sometimes.)
You can check out the decks Irish players post on the Irish YuGiOh forum in my sig.

We don't really have a "meta", decks are somewhat different from each other, luckily. We do have Monarchs, we do have RaiDas, we do have Gadgets, and other random things. If I had to say which takes the top spot, it would be Monarchs.

Mine is basically the same as Ness's (above poster)
My meta:
"Helloooo...any opponents out there?"
Well, there are a few......they also think that Zombies are crap. In fact, they think that EVERY deck is crap...they dont bother with Metagame.com & they all hate THIS site with a passion... (DGz people).....they say nuttin' but "Tony Mera Deploy" or "Starwind Deploy"...they dis out totally on burn "what a f'ing cheap win lucksacking stoopid noob deck" & thats why most of them run burn...
"Oi? anybody out there got 3X Dark Bribes?...crickets chirp..."meh, I'll just run Chain Burn then, who needs bloody Dark Bribes anyway?"
"oh goody I traded my whole binder for one Necroface, now I only need 2 more then I'll have 3 great cards & no deck to go with them....."
"Oi? anybody got 3X LADD? 3X Foolish? 3X Destiny Draws?...crickets chirp..ah wtf..I'll have to make do with that Standard Monarch Deck yet again...*sigh*"
"Stop whining you tool, those cards are not even out in Australia yet. Try E-bay"...
"I got a Grandmaster I'll sell to you for $80 if u REALLY need it....wtf, u callin' me a ripper? shove it up your arse"
"Helloooo any opponents out there? I got my 3 Raizas & I can duel now nyah nyah.."

"Helloooo...any opponents out there?"
Oh, yes, I forgot the "echoing for opponents" part. Basically the amount of people in most locals are the amount of people who play Yugioh in my whole country <.<
The metagames are different not only because of the availability of cards, but also, because of the people. This includes personality, but also more tangible things like their economy. It seems Fiendishly's (certain part of Australia) and mine (one of the TWO places you can barely build a local tournament in Argentina) are marked by very few players who would buy every single expensive card in triples, and players that have to comfort with less, both merging up in the same tournament.
Of course running a Gemini deck is complete insanity in my meta where the top tables will always be either Raizas (splashed in ANY deck), CO burn, or some other fancy deck. I just got sick of my toolbox.

Monarchs, with a few top tier decks sneaking in once and a while. Mostly it is a monarch driven paradise. It gets old, but after beating two of them with a Roid deck I was rather happy.

My meta differs every tourney, recently it was
1st Place - Perfect Circle
2nd place - D-RaiDa
3rd place - Hydro monarch (me!)
4th place - Gadget
5th place - Bazoo/rat
6th place - Macro
7th place - Exodia/manticore loop
8th place - random deck

since half the players in my area are competitive, we see a lot of top tier stuff. Though people here have a tendency to run very random tech, or think enemy controller is a staple for every deck?
The other thing is many players are stuck from 2 formats ago.

In my meta, I see a wide variety of stuff, but D-raida still holds its own. We have Co burn, baboon burn, old school d-hero, a couple of structure decks, volcanic monarchs, and old-school burn.
