View Full Version : Card Mythology
~Xion~
10-24-2007, 12:57 PM
Well, since the Samurai thread that Master Chief made went so well. (Major props to Chief) I decided to make a thread covering the whole span of the Yugioh TCG and the real life mythology that is behind a majority of the cards. I suppose we can discuss the cards and the myths they came from, and try to figure out some we might not know :p Anyway, NO FLAMING!!!!!
The first one that comes to my head right now is Fenrir. Fenrir is based off of the creature from Norse mythology with the same name. Fenrir in Norse myth is the son of Loki and is supposed to aid in the Twilight of the Gods, also known as Ragnarok.
Another one that I can think of off the top of my head is the Trojan Horse, which comes from the epic "The Illiad" by Homer, an ancient Greece philosopher.
So I suppose you should just post anything you know of and discuss and what not. Have fun!

I had made a thread about this in March
http://www.pojo.biz/board/showthread.php?t=407347
Amazons
Popular card: Amazon Archers, Amazoness Fighter
A race of fierce and savage warrior women who cut off their right breast in order to use a bow more easily (the word Amazon means "breastless" in Greek). These savage women dealt with men only for reproduction, and any male children born within the tribe were either killed, enslaved or given away to neighboring tribes. Although first spoken of in Greek mythology, early Spanish conquistadors exploring the rainforests of South America brought back stories of actually being attacked by the Amazons.
Anubis
Popular card: Judgment of Anubis
The patron deity of embalmers and priests, Anubis was one of the gods that the soul would meet during it's journey to the afterlife. In the final judgment of a soul, Anubis would weigh the heart of the deceased against a feather of truth. He was often depicted as either a man with the head of a jackal or being in the form of a crouching black dog. (The dog was the animal sacred to Anubis; black symbolized the color of the human corpse.) He was sometimes referred to as "Chief of the Westerners," a name based on the belief that the realm of the dead lay to the west, which is why Egyptians built their cemeteries on the west bank of the Nile.
(Dew's note: In Egyptian mythology, the weighing of the heart was an important step in reaching the afterlife. The deceased's heart was taken by Anubis and weighed against a feather taken from the goddess of truth and wisdom, Maat. If the heart weighed less than the feather, the spirit was granted access to the afterlife. But if the heart was heavier, it was consumed by a monster, and the spirit was condemned.)
Apophis
Popular card: Embodiment of Apophis
The Egyptian snake god, Apophis was an evil god who symbolized darkness and chaos. Apophis dwelled in the underworld, and each night when the sun god, Ra, made his journey through the realm, Apophis would engage Ra in battle.
(Dew's note: Ra was believed carry the sun across the sky each day; at night, Apophis would try to prevent Ra from bringing the sun back up to the mortal world. The god Set would often join Ra during his trip to the underworld and protect both Ra and the sun from Apophis.)
Centaur
Popular card: Mystic Horseman
Not to be confused with the Minotaur, centaurs have the upper body of a man (or woman) and the lower body of a horse. In Greek mythology, centaurs were violent and uncivilized creatures who were known to get drunk and raid neighboring villages. The exception to rule was a centaur called Chiron.
Cerberus
Popular card: Mythical Beast Cerberus
The watchdog of Hades (the realm of the dead), Cerberus was a vicious, giant, fire-breathing dog with at least three heads (some myths say it had more than fifty heads) and a snake (or snakes) for tails. Cerberus guarded the entrance to the underworld, preventing the living from entering and the dead from leaving. Despite it's size and power, a handful of mortals were able to make it past Cerberus, most by lulling the dog to sleep. The Greek hero Hercules' twelfth labor was to bring Cerberus to the mortal world, which Hercules succeeded in doing by overpowering the dog by brute force.
(Dew's note: Cerberus was not injured during the making of this myth.)
Chimera
Popular card: Little Chimera
In Greek mythology, a chimera was a savage, fire-breathing monster with the head of a lion, the body of a goat and the tail of a serpent. It wrecked havoc across the kingdom of Lycia until finally being killed by the hero Bellerophon and the winged-horse, Pegasus. Fun fact, the term nowadays is used to
Chiron
Popular card: Chiron the Mage
Unlike his rowdy and barbaric brethren, Chiron was a wise and kind-hearted centaur, skilled in the arts of music and medicine. Chiron taught many of the heroes of Greek mythology, such as Hercules and Achilles. Although originally immortal, Chiron was accidentally wounded by Hercules with a poisoned arrow and begged the gods to become mortal so he could escape the pain through death. The gods obliged, allowing Chiron to give his immortality to Prometheus and become mortal. After his death, Chiron was placed in the stars as the constellation Sagittarius.
Easter Island
Popular card: The Statue of Easter Island
Not a myth but rather surrounded in myth are the Moai, or the statues of Easter Island. Easter Island is a small island off the coast of Chile; it was named as such after the Dutch sea captain, Jacob Roggeveen, visited the island on Easter Sunday in 1722. The Moai were carved by hand out of solid stone boulders, and were believed to be guardians of the island. Each family had a Moai protector, and after the statue was carved, it was dragged to a sacred spot on the island called the Ahu platform, where it was erected and stood watch with all of the other Moai. All in all, at least 288 Moai were found at the Ahu, with at least 600 incomplete ones found nearby.
Fenrir
Popular card: Fenrir
In Norse mythology, the Fenrir is a giant monster taking the form of a wolf. The Norse gods, fearing that the Fenrir would bring about the destruction of the world, tricked it into being chained to a boulder with an unbreakable rope.
Golem
Popular Card: Destroyer Golem
In Jewish folklore, a golem is a thing that is given life due to some magic spell or potion. After being created, the golem would be at the beck and whim of it's creator; most often, they were used for protection or to carry out tasks that would be impossible for normal humans. Fun fact, the term nowadays is used to describe anything that is not fully developed.
Harpies
Popular card: Harpie Lady Sisters
Technically speaking, "Harpies Brother" is not an actual harpie. Harpies, also called Harpy and Harpyiae, were fierce and filthy creatures, having the head of a woman and the body of a vulture. Their purpose was to carry away the souls of the dead and punish anyone who offended or angered the gods. They were also known to snatch away their victim's food (the name harpy comes from the Greek word "to snatch"). Although there were many Harpies, the Greek myths usually mention three by name: Aello, Celaeno and Ocypete (the Greek poet Homer names only one, Podarge). A fun fact, the three Harpie Lady Sisters actually have names, which are based off of the three Greek Harpies: Airo (the red-haired one), Keraino (the blue-haired one) and Ocupete (the orange-haired one).
Horus
Popular card: Horus the Black Flame Dragon, Horus' Servant
Depicted as a falcon-headed man or as a large falcon, Horus was the Egyptian god of the sky. A popular Egyptian symbol, referred to as the "Eye of Horus," which looks like a human eye with a falcon's cheek marking, is based on the story that Horus lost his left eye during a battle with his uncle, Set. The Egyptian pharaohs were believed to be reincarnations of Horus.
Kappa
Popular card: Psychic Kappa
A creature of Japanese mythology, Kappa are water spirits, having the body of a tortoise, an ape-like face, long hair and scaly limbs. They walk on two legs, and can survive on land for a very short length of time. Kappa have almost a two-faced nature; they can be friendly and benevolent, and will teach any wise person the art of healing, but they are also known to drag travelers, animals and young children into the water and drown them. These creatures live off of a diet of cucumbers and blood.
Kraken
Popular card: Fiend Kraken
A giant squid-like monster that, not surprisingly (given what it is), is believed to dwell in the ocean and drag passing ships down. Kraken are also believed to create whirlpools.
Manticore
Popular card: Manticore of Darkness
A monster with the head of a human, the body of a lion and a tail that can fire poison darts. This deadly creature stalks humans as prey, and kills it's victim with those poison darts, then devours the person, clothing and all. Manticore are believed to live in the remote forests of Asia.
Mars
Popular card: The Agent of Force - Mars
Believed to be the father of Romulus and Remus, the legendary brothers who founded Rome, Mars holds an important place in Roman mythology, second only to Jupiter. Originally, Mars was the god of fertility (farming); later, he became the god of war. Many things are named after Mars in his honor; the month of March, which not only was the beginning of the Roman planting season but was also the time when war was either declared or renewed; a section of land near the Tiber River is called the "Field of Mars" because of the fertile soil found there, and the word "martial," meaning "warlike," is based on his name. The fourth planet is also named for him.
Mercury
Popular card: The Agent of Wisdom - Mercury
The Roman god of commerce, prosperity, wealth, roads and travel, he also served as the messenger to the other gods, delivering his messages at lightning-speed by wearing a pair of winged sandals called talaria. Mercury, though often portrayed as an attractive and intelligent young man, was also known as being deceptive, a prankster and a thief, so much so that criminals viewed him as their deity. His Greek counterpart is Hermes.
Minotaur
Popular card: Battle Steer
Not to be confused with a centaur, a minotaur is a creature with the head of a bull and the body of a human. The more famous minotaur comes from Greek mythology, who was kept within a labyrinth in the city of Crete and was fed sacrifices of seven men and seven women each year. After nine years, the minotaur was finally killed by the Greek hero, Theseus.
Nephthys
Popular card: Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys
In Egyptian mythology, Nephthys was often referred to as the "Friend of the Dead". She was not actually responsible for the person's death nor did she partake in the crucial weighing of the heart, rather, she offered advice and guidance to the deceased and gave comfort to the grieving relatives. She also was said to be present during childbirth, offering comfort to both mother and newborn child.
Obelisk
Popular card: Obelisk the Tormentor
Not actually a person but rather a thing. An obelisk is a tall, four-sided stone pillar with the top being shaped like a pyramid (think Washington Monument). The ancient Egyptians carved obelisks out of massive blocks of granite and placed the obelisks, usually in pairs, at the entrances of temples.
Osiris
Popular card: Slifer the Sky Dragon
Few people may be aware of this, but the original translation for Slifer the Sky Dragon is the God of Osiris, making it a true Egyptian god card. In Egyptian mythology, Osiris was the chief god of the Underworld and the one who made the final decision on whether or not a soul was worthy of entering the afterlife. He is probably better known for the way he became the King of the Underworld; after he was murdered by his brother, Set, Osiris' body was dismembered, the parts scattered throughout Egypt. His devoted wife, Isis, and her sister, Nephthys, painstakingly gathered all of the pieces; in the case where the piece had been completely destroyed (e. it had been consumed by an animal), the women re-created the part out of wax. After Isis and Nephthys reassembled Osiris's body, Anubis and Thoth were sent by Ra, the sun god, to properly mummify Osiris' body. Unable to remain in the land of the living, Osiris then descended to the Underworld, where he was given his position.
Phoenix
Popular card: A Feather of the Phoenix
Contrary to the opinion, there was only one Phoenix, and it was always male. This large, eagle-like bird had gold and blood-red feathers and was the symbol of immortality and spiritual rebirth. At the end of its 500 year life (some say it lived for longer), the Phoenix would build a nest on a cliff that faced the setting sun. The sun's rays would destroy the old Phoenix, and in the morning, after the older bird was completely consumed by the fire, a new Phoenix would emerge from the ashes. Afterwards, the young Phoenix would carry the ashes of it's father to an altar in Heliopolis, a city in Egypt. Heliopolis, meaning "City of the Sun God," was a center of worship of the sun god.
The Phoenix is considered a figure from Greek mythology, despite many believing that it is Egyptian (since the altar resided in an Egyptian city). The Egyptians believed in a sacred, stork-like bird called the Bennu, which died in flames every evening and emerged again each morning.
Quetzalcoatl
Popular Card: Sinister Serpent
Quetzalcoatl ("feathered serpent" or "plumed serpent") is the Nahuatl name for the Feathered-Serpent deity of ancient Mesoamerican culture. In Mesoamerican myth Quetzalcoatl is also a mythical culture hero from whom almost all mesoamerican peoples claim descent[citation needed]. These myths often describe him as the divine ruler of the mythical Toltecs of Tollan who after his expulsion from Tollan, travelled south or east to set up new cities and kingdoms. Many different Mesoamerican cultures, e.g. Maya, K'iche, Pipil, Zapotec claim to have been the only true lineage of Quetzalcoatl and thus of the mythical Toltecs
Ra
Popular card: The Winged Dragon of Ra
Also known as Re, Ra was the sun god and the god of creation. Each day, he carried the sun across the sky; each night, he passed through the underworld and was often attacked by the serpent god, Apophis. In the end, Ra always triumphed. Ra was believed to have created himself from the lotus; he created humans from his tears; and he created the gods Hu (god of authority) and Sia (god of the mind) from his blood. Ra was an important god to the pharaohs, so much so that the pharaohs believed that they (the pharaohs) were his (Ra's) children, and that when they (the pharaoh) died, they would ascend to the heavens and live with Ra. His name is often combined with that of other gods as a symbol of his power and prestige, such as Ra-Osiris, Amun-Re and Ra-Otum.
Ragnarok
Popular card: Divine Dragon Ragnarok
The day that marks the end of the cosmos in Norse mythology, similar to Christianity's "Armageddon." The day of Ragnarok is also the day that the wolf monster, Fenrir, will be freed when an earthquake destroys the boulder that it is chained to. Once free, Fenrir will seek revenge against the gods.
Saturn
Popular card: The Agent of Judgment - Saturn
Although the Yu-Gi-Oh monster looks very feminine, Saturn is the Roman god of fertility and planting. Very few myths about him have survived; the ones that did show that he reigned during a golden age of good harvest and happiness. The Romans honored him with a 7-day festival called "Saturnalia." During the holiday, schools and businesses were closed, criminals could not be punished, and slaves, for the brief time, were given the same equal rights that their masters had. Saturn is often associated with the Greek god, Cronus.
Sobek
Popular card: Sebek's Blessing
The crocodile-headed god who symbolized the strength and authority of the pharaohs.
Sphinx
Popular card: Sphinx Telia (Greek version), Guardian Sphinx (Egyptian version)
In Greek mythology, there was only one Sphinx, who was a monster having the head and chest of a woman, the body of a dog, the tail of a serpent, the wings of a bird and the paws of a lion. Sent by the Goddess Hera to punish the city of Thebes, the Sphinx posed the same question to every traveler who passed by her:
"What creature walks on four legs in the morning, two at noon, and three in the evening?" (another version of this riddle goes: "What has one voice and becomes four-footed, two-footed and three-footed?").
Anyone who could not answer her riddle was either devoured or smashed into a rock and killed. Finally, Oedipus answered the Sphinx's riddle; his answer is the classic:
"Man, who walks on his hands and feet when he is young, at noon in middle life he walks erect, and in the afternoon of life he walks with the aid of a walking stick."
Having had her riddle solved, the Sphinx killed herself.
In Egyptian mythology, the sphinx had the body of a lion with the head of either a ram, a falcon, or a man. Quite different than the Greek version, the Egyptian sphinx was built to honor a person, usually a Pharaoh, and was a symbol of royal power. Sphinxes were often built outside of tombs to serve as protectors of the deceased royal family.
Succubus
Popular card: Succubus Knight
A creature from medieval folklore, a Succubus is a female demon who visits men in their sleep (use your brain), and more often than not steals their souls afterwards. Fun fact, the male version of a Succubus in called an Incubus.
Valkyrie
Popular card: Element Valkyrie
Going hand in hand with Fenrir and Ragnarok, Valkyries are messengers of the Norse god, Odin. Nicknamed "the Chooser of the Slain," these warrior women ride around on winged horses, searching the battlefields for fallen noble warriors. After gathering the fallen warriors, the Valkyrie bring them to Odin's hall to await Ragnarok and the final battle for the universe. A fun fact, it is rumored that the reflecting light from the Valkyries' armor causes the Aurora Borealis (the Northern Lights).
Venus
Popular card: The Agent of Creation - Venus
The Roman goddess of love and beauty, although originally, she was the goddess of gardens and vegetation.
Yamata no Orochi
Popular card: Yamata Dragon, Susa Soldier
A giant, eight-headed dragon in Japanese mythology. This monster dwelled in the mountains of Japan, and demanded that the surrounding villages offer sacrifices of young women. The dragon was finally killed by the fallen warrior-god, Susano-Oh, after Susano-Oh got the dragon drunk on sake.
White Horned Dragon
Popular Card: White Horn Dragon
In some form of Dragonology the White Horned Dragon was supposed to be the most powerful and revered among all dragons because it fed off the magic of mages instead of the mages themslves.
all of the spirit cards have Japanese Mythology (except for like 1 or 2)
Icarus Attack is a perfect example of Greek mythology. How Icarus was warned not to fly to high, but he did anyway and his wings got burnt off :P
There is literally tons of cards based off of history.

Because he has arrows sticking out of him too lol.
Benkei carries weapons of the 999th men he slaughtered in order to achieve his victory. On his 1,000th battle he was beaten but not killed I guess that's why the Japanese version has the arrows sticking out of him.

I'm curious, what is your source that the Harpie Lady Sisters of Yugioh were given names that resembled the famous harpie sisters of mythology?
It should also be noted that while harpies are ugly and filthy in most myths, they are beautiful in others.
<><><>
The image of the Great Spirit (that Rock type from the Fortress structure deck) is obviously based off a Native American totem pole, I don't know much about their mythology though.
Roc from the Valley of Haze: Roc were said to be gigantic birds that fed on elephants and could even carry them in their talons.
The Cyber monster series (Cyber Phoenix, Ogre, Kirin and Dragon) are based on some group of creatures in Japanese mythology as I recall. However we are still missing the Tiger which is also part of the myth (the Orgre represents the Human).

From an old thread I made
Ojamas seem to be allusions from rock
Ojama Yellow = Billy Idol, The yellow could represent his hair color, plus there is the matter of the lip thing they both can do. You know, the wookie wookie guy does it too.
Ojama Black = Ozzy! The black color and sharp teeth seem to fit into what people would think of an early Osbourne.
Ojama Green = Gene Simmons. Obviously because of the huge tounge. KISS
The ojama name itself might also mean something, considering ojama means annoyance the creator of these cards could easily not like rock music and see it as annoying.
Just sort of an odd coincidence.

According to the anime(not sure of the Dub as I don't watch it), the Gem Beasts(Crystal Beasts) were based on seven gemstones gathered from around the world and used to create lithograph as evidence of Julius Caesar's reign during the Roman Empire.
Not exactly sure if this is true or not. Might be...Kazuki Takahashi is pretty good about his research.
Additional Comment:
could this be rainbow dragon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rainbow_Serpent)?
btw does anybody know the mythology behind the crystal beasts? or are they just cards without meaning behind them?
Ah ok,
An image similar to this one was feature on the anime. The image depicted Rainbow Dragon. So the whole Crystal Beast/Gem Beast fiasco could have been researched. Nice find.
Additional Comment:
a legendary ocean is called atlantis in the japanese game
aegis of gaia, gaia is mother earth.
The word "Aegis" means "Shield" so technically Aegis of Gaia could be called "Shield of Gaia." When considering the effect of the card it makes sense.
Additional Comment:
To be honest, I have no clue about Dark Dust Spirit.
Dark Dust Spirit looks like the Shinigami the Third Hokage summoned against Orochimaru in episode 73 of Naruto. It was a death god and considering Dark Dust Spirit's effect...makes you wonder. In fact, that might be what Dark Dust Spirit is...a death god.

I am assuming that everyone knows that Gradius, Gradius's Option, Victory Viper XX03, and all of the B.E.S. cards are based off of the Konami game Gradius? And Goe Goe the Gallant Ninja, Ninja Grandmaster Sasuke, Lady Ninja Yae, and Sasuke Samurai are based off of characters in Konami's Legend of the Mystical Ninja. Nanobreaker is based on the game Nanobreaker. Tactical Espionage Expert is based off of Solid Snake.

Moai Interceptor Cannon and Solar Flame Dragon are enemies from the Gradius games
Space Mambo along with Aitsu, Koitsu, Doitsu and Soitsu are playable "ships" from the Parodius series (parody Gradius series)
Neo-Spacian Dark Panther and its effect are very similar to the "Panther" enemy from the Castlevania series (the main form is a black panther and is able to shapeshift into a human form.)

Yeah, that one's obvious, but I kind of wonder where the rest of the names are coming from. I know that Rizer (Raiza) was a character in Contra (a Konami game) but that may be a coincidence.
I also thought that perhaps that Zaborg may be referencing Seaborg, which does go with Mobius in a way.
Vampire Lord = Dracula.
That's a huge stretch. Vampire Lord is almost certainly just a generic vampire, as there's nothing to suggest that he's related to Dracula.

Neos and his powers to assimilate with the Neo-spacians is based on the manga (and a couple American movies with Mark Hamil) "The Guyver"
Zombyre ("Zombyra the Dark" in its TCG incarnation) is an homage to Spawn according to the original manga mentioned in the early chapters -- it being an "American comic character" with a similar background of the comic anti-hero.

Sacred Phoenix Of Nephthys,Hours(Any level),End of Anubis-Are egp god`s
Winged Dragons-In some Storys dragons where not winged.
And not sure if you count it as mythology
But
Solmens Jedjment-refers to the story of King Solmens choice of cutting a baby in half to find out whose child it was.
Tower of Babel-reefers to the story of told in the Bible,While the Tower was Erect over the land many spoke different languages and dialects.(It`s been a while but i think this is how it goes)The people of the world did not treat God with respect Or angered him and God inflected his wrath upon the land by destroying the Tower of Babel. When The Tower of Babel had been destroyed everyone spoke different languages.

"Dark Ruler Ha Des" Hades is a Greek word for hell.
More directly, Hades was the god of the underworld.
"Daedalus" was the father of "Icarus" & was a reknowned tradesman & inventor.
However it is far more likely "daedalus" refers to the name of a ship whose crew reported spotting a huge sea serpent in 1848.

Well in the case of Goblin Attack Force it doesn't seem to really be a story so much as a bunch of images of terrible (and funny) things befalling the goblins.:D
Sacred Phoenix Of Nephthys,Hours(Any level),End of Anubis-Are egp god`s
Nepthys' references two mythological things. The goddess of course and the bird known as the phoenix, which has various forms in a number of mythologies.
Solmens Jedjment-refers to the story of King Solmens choice of cutting a baby in half to find out whose child it was.
I don't think that was the intended meaning. For one thing there is no baby in the image. Secondly its "solemn" not "Solomon's." Thirdly the Japanese name is something like Judgment of God. Lastly the image is clearly (especially in the Japanese version as the angels behind him have halos) that of god telling something to stop, not a hebrew king.
While it does refer to the Tower of Babel you got the story way off. The story was that at the time all peoples spoke the same language. Coming together they wanted to make a tower that would reach to heaven and unite as one mighty race. God, however, had told the people of Earth to spread over it and multiply and trust in him, not make a monument to their own power. Thus he made various people speak new languages. All work on the tower stopped as people could no longer understand each other. The tower was abandoned as the various people who shared a language left to spread over the world.
<><><>
Incidentally, according to people on janime's forums, the names of the three Sacred Beasts/Legendary Demon's (Hamon, Uria etc.) come from the names of various Angels in some hebrew scriptures (not an accepted part of the Bible but more like Bible-related mythology).

Majin Vegeta12, another popular one is Warrior Dai Grepher. Which appeared in cards such as Simultaneous Loss, Dimensional Inversion, Falling Down, Sakuretsu Armor and more I can't think of atm.
However it is far more likely "daedalus" refers to the name of a ship whose crew reported spotting a huge sea serpent in 1848.
Another thing on Daedalus is the beginning of the name, Levia-Dragon, which is obviously a morph of Leviathan, the biblical sea monster.
Fiendishly, a few more I can think of on the Marauding Captain saga would be Staunch Defender, Two-Man Cell Battle and Battle-Scarred. I know there's more, I just can't think of them right now lol.

Others include Draining Shield and D.D. Borderline.
Incidentally the card Drop Off is apparently supposed to be Marauding Captain's sword falling to the ground from the scene in Battle Scarred where Terroking Archfiend slashes his face.
There is also the story of how Warrior Lady of the Wasteland got sucked into the Different Dimension, lost an arm, gained new powers, and eventually came back as D.D. Warrior Lady. Grepher apparently hates her as he is fighting her in a number of cards (he ties with Warrior Lady of the Wasteland in Simultaneous Loss, then loses to D.D. Warrior Lady in that one Magic Cylinder-like card). His want to surpass her may be one thing that drives him to the dark side.
The various other Different Dimension cards all point to the events surrounding D.D. Warrior Lady as being merely a side story to a larger event where in Dimensional Fissure a huge crack in dimensions opened up in a wasteland area and sucked up a lot of different monsters. Another seems to be Chain Thrasher going there and becoming D.D. Survivor.
Then there is the charming tale of Coach Goblin, who helps Giant Orc become a fighting star in the form of Second Goblin. Until that is D.D. Crazy Beast drags the goblin into the Different Dimension. But he makes the most of it, tames the beast, and becomes D.D. Trainer.

Of course much of Marauding Captain's story has to do with his friendship with Gagagigo. My Body as a Shield seems to be the act of the "special person" who turned Gagagigo to justice, then returned the favor with Spirit Barrier (though I might be wrong about Gagagigo protecting Marauding Captain in that picture, its hard to tell who is crouched behind him), the two also working together to beat Blazing Impachi in various cards. Though I don't really know what order it all goes in. It is clear though that Invader of Darkness is the "tremendous evil" that compelled Gagagigo to seek out Kozaky and transform him into Giga Gagagigo.
Speaking of which I really want a conclusion to that story. Are we really supposed to believe Marauding Captain never tried to save his friend and Gogiga Gagagigo just wandered around destroying things forever? I also wander how the Water Charmer fits in, since she had Gigobyte and then Gagagigo as a familiar.

Warrior Lady of the Wasteland was kidnapped by a Goblin Attack Force & taken to Terrorking Archfiend. Marauding Captain sent Warrior Dai Grepher & Dark Blade to rescue her, but they became a victim of Archfiend magic (Falling Down) & were thus sent to the Different Dimension, along with Warrior Lady of the Wasteland. When Marauding Captain heard what happened, he decided to do the job himself & called for Reinforcements of the Army & Exiled Force to launch an all out Assault on GHQ (Goblin Headquarters). There was much Pandemonium. Marauding Captain found Terrorking Archfiend & battled with him, thus becoming wounded & having his face slashed (Battle Scarred) & in the event, he dropped one of his swords (Drop Off). He quickly recovered, however (The Warrior Returning Alive, missing a sword if you notice). & defeated Terrorking Archfiend & getting the spell to free the Warriors from the Different Dimension (Gift of the Martyr). The spell did not work properly, so Marauding Captain had to go to the Different Dimension himself to rescue them & he became D.D Survivor. Warrior Lady of the Wasteland lost her arm in this process, acquiring a prosthetic one & became D.D Warrior Lady, gaining special powers as well (to move freely between dimensions). The other Warriors did not fare too well & they became mutants, appearing on the Sakuretsu Armour card & vowed to protect Marauding Captain as bodyguards.
I also know the story behind "People Running About", "Toll", "Royal Writ of Taxation", "Royal Decree", Imperial Order, "Prohibition" , "Royal Oppression" "The Forceful Sentry" "Forced Requisition" , "Forced Ceasefire", "Huge Revolution" & "Throwstone Unit" as well.
And I know the story behind Blazing Inpachi & Gogaggigo & why they were fighting, because Gigabyte was running from the Dark World Monsters & hid in Inpachi's tree trunk & the Dark World monsters set fire to the Dark Forest to try & flush him out.
I also know about Blazing Inpachi's alliance with Invader of Darkness to kill Gogaggigo & they managed to kill him & his body was taken to Kozaky's laboratory & how he was given an evil heart & brought back to life as Giga Gaggagigo & his trials & ordeals (Stumbling).

Thank you for the info Fiendishly. I like all the card stories. But I do have a question. What about Maruading Captain and his friendship with Gaggagigo, as evident in "My Body As A Shield." And Gaggagigo and the Charmer, Eria; since her familiar is Gigobyte and Gagagigo.
Fiendishly
10-27-2007, 01:04 PM
All I know is all that happened way before the Archfiend Saga.
Gagaggigo was evil, but was trying to be good & Marauding Captain was encouraging him to be good. He thus protected Gagaggigo against Blazing Inpachi (My Body as a Shield) because there were more evil beings out to destroy him.
As for how they met, or anything to do with the Charmer, Eria, I wouldn't have a clue. I have heard & read all of the Marauding Captain Stories, but I either don't remember or don't recall reading anything about Eria & her relationship with Gagaggigo.
Nor do I know how Giga Gagaggigo became Gogiga Gagaggigo either.
The stories are very interesting & the artwork tells a story of its own.
I became interested in all of this a few years back.
Now you know the whole story of the Archfiend Saga at least.
I was glad I could help you out there. =)

Fiendishly
10-27-2007, 01:58 PM
I think "mummy" is better than "sir" (being a woman & all) :p
It really tells a story on it's own.
It's all about an evil & greedy ruler who was cruel to his subjects "Oppressed People". He demanded huge taxes & "Tolls" & even wrote up a "Royal Writ of Taxation" which became a "Royal Decree". Signs were posted up everywhere, which advocated unreasonable laws "Prohibition" & the people were very unhappy. Those who could not afford to pay the high taxes had all of their possessions taken away "Forced Requisition". Some staged protests & riots, but those who did were either executed or put in jail "People Running About". There were rebellions & civil unrest amongst the populace. One subject decided to write a letter to the king & hand it to him personally, disapproving of all the harsh taxes & new laws, but "The Forceful Sentry" stopped him from hand delivering it, instead, The Forceful Sentry tortured the poor soul to re-write it in favour OF the king, also stating that all of the civil unrest would cease immediately "Forced Ceasefire". I think "mummy" is better than "sir" (being a woman & all)
It really tells a story on it's own.
When the general populace heard about this "dictatorship" they decided to stage a civil war "Huge Revolution" & decided to storm the palace using ramrods & catapult cannons "Throwstone Unit". The king ordered his army to war "Imperial Order" but it was no good, because they were severely outnumbered. In the end, the army was defeated & the evil king was banished forever. A fair & just ruler was elected & That's the tale.

I have to respectfully disagree with some aspects of this interpretation.
[COLOR="Lime"]Warrior Lady of the Wasteland was kidnapped by a Goblin Attack Force & taken to Terrorking Archfiend.
No cards even show her interacting with those monsters so I wonder what you base this on.
Marauding Captain sent Warrior Dai Grepher & Dark Blade to rescue her, but they became a victim of Archfiend magic (Falling Down) & were thus sent to the Different Dimension, along with Warrior Lady of the Wasteland.
Some actually theorize that Dark Blade IS Dai Grepher after his transformation in Falling Down. Your ideas ignore Simultaneous Loss where a non-mutated Dai Grepher is seen fighting Warrior Lady of the Wasteland, and the Paths of Destiny card which shows Dai Grepher's struggle with becoming good or evil.
And the events that caused Grepher, Warrior Lady of the Wasteland and others to go to the Different Dimension seem to have been caused by Dimensional Fissure, as the art for the card shows it happening in a wasteland area.
getting the spell to free the Warriors from the Different Dimension (Gift of the Martyr).
Gift of the Martyr's art shows a Monk Fighter and the Dunames Dark Witch. It has nothing to do with Marauding Captain.
Marauding Captain had to go to the Different Dimension himself to rescue them & he became D.D Survivor.
In hair color and overall appearance, D.D. Survivor looks a lot more like Chain Thrasher than Marauding Captain. Marauding Captain looks a good deal older than D.D. Survivor and his hair is a different shade.
Warrior Lady of the Wasteland lost her arm in this process, acquiring a prosthetic one & became D.D Warrior Lady, gaining special powers as well (to move freely between dimensions).
Karma Cut seems to show her losing her arm as a result of travelling into the Different Dimension. Once becoming D.D. Warrior Lady she is seen leaving the Different Dimension in the card Interdimensional Matter Transporter (which incidentally is seen int he background of her own card's art) and after leaping intot he portal she is seen leavign it with a number of other monsters in Return from the Different Dimension. How it fits in with Dimension Fusion I'm not sure.
The other Warriors did not fare too well & they became mutants, appearing on the Sakuretsu Armour card & vowed to protect Marauding Captain as bodyguards.
There is only one monster on Sakuretsu Armor that is mutated, everyone else are soldiers being blasted away by it. It has Grepher's hair and so is likely the result of his transformation in Falling Down as there are marked similarities in the body of the creature on Sakuretsu Armor and what Grepher is becoming in Falling Down.
And I know the story behind Blazing Inpachi & Gogaggigo & why they were fighting, because Gigabyte was running from the Dark World Monsters & hid in Inpachi's tree trunk & the Dark World monsters set fire to the Dark Forest to try & flush him out.
No cards show anything of the sort happening.
Stumbling occured while he was still just Gagagigo and shows how Gigobyte had grown to have an evil heart (as described on Gigobyte's and Gagagigo's cards).
Also, Giga Gagagigo's text specifically says he volunteered to become a cyborg in order to combat tremendous evil. He wasn't forced to undergo the operation. Invader of Darkness certainly would not have wanted to help him get more powerful. We also never see Inpachi as having anything to do with Invader of Darkness.
I could go on & on about this all day...I have no life.lol
Its fun, that's whats important.
Yes, you may be right there too..wow, a double meaning. kewl.
Well it's mostly that a reference to the greek inventor makes no sense as far as having a meaning with a giant sea serpent. So I don't see how it could be a double meaning as the first meaning has no meaning.
Nor do I know how Giga Gagaggigo became Gogiga Gagaggigo either.
His text basically implies he became him by becoming more powerful over time. Gogiga Gagagigo looks just like Giga Gagagigo except with reddish skin. Reptiles grow their whole lives and Gagagigo is described as "young" in his text, so it makes sense that he would become larger and stronger over the years even after becoming a cyborg.
<><><>
Looking again, I now see My Body as a Shield and Spirit Barrier are two separate events. My Body as a Shield is Marauding Captain protecting Gagagigo from Blazing Inpachi (we can see clearly it is a fire attack hitting him) while at some later point Spirit Barrier occurs when Gagagigo uses it to protect a probably random innocent from an attack by Invader of Darkness's laser blast.

After reading all these posts I think I've come to a conclusion to how Eria got entered into the equation. Gigobyte was her starter of sorts and as she grew gagagigo grew with her. Her familiars were under her control but they became in danger and in the circumstances she had to tribute her familiar to 'spiritual water art'(if you look there isn't anyone else with her). This made her angry (raging Eria) and have to get a new Gigobyte. (they are a dyme a dozen. LOL)
Gagagigo survived and went to go and travel with Marauding captain and so and so.
And that is in the book of yugioh, chapter 38, verse 11. LOL:D

Its probably supposed to just be a shady guy wanting to make a deal with Ha-ades. Unless the clothing perfectly matches.

Actually thats Gagagigo in that art. :) My personal interpretation is its supposed to symbolize how Gagagigo went from the kind and innocent Gigobyte to the tainted Gagagigo before becoming the good Gagagigo we have as a monster card then losing his soul in his subsequent transformations (Giga Gagagigo and Gogiga Gagagigo).

That "shady guy" is my guess(Jinzo) in human form giving up his humanity(making a deal with the devil) in order to obtain power. After all, it does resemble Lector as Jinzo from the original anime during the Noa Arc before he revealed himself as Jinzo/Lector/Deck Master etc. to Kaiba.

Yes, I have based the thesis on cards I have seen, original Manga translations & multitudes of stories on forums like this one.
The theory is that Falling Down caused the warriors to wind up in the Different Dimension. I did not take into account Simultaneous Loss & Paths of Destiny. My bad.
It is also popular theory that Marauding Captain is D.D.Survivor, being changed by his time in the Different Dimension.
You are more accurate than myself. I give you credit for that.
Nobody really knows the whole truth behind these cards (except for maybe Mr Takahashi)
Its fun, that's whats important.

The only cards I know of that tell his story besides his own is Archlord Zerato, MaZera DeVille, Zera the Mant, Sanctuary in the Sky (for Archlord), Pandemonium (for MaZera), and Zera Ritual (for the Mant). Now I know that his own card text pretty much tells the complete story in a nutshell, but I want to know what happens to him that makes him become one of the three forms. If anyone knows of other cards that tell his story or for some reason know is story let me know.

There's also Zeradias, that young Zerato-looking angel with the field searching effect for Sanctuary in the Sky.
Anyway, my thoughts agree with the theory that basically if Warrior of Zera chooses to be good he becomes Zerato eventually, while if he falls to evil he becomes Mazera eventually.
And since Zera the Mant looks so little like Warrior of Zera and Mazera and the latter two came so long after his card was made, as well as because of his name stating a connection to Zera, like he came from where Zera lived or worked under him at some point (rather than that he WAS Zera), and his flavor text stating he seeks to escape the temptations of Fiends my theory is basically this. That Zera is just a powerful fiend with influence on the area that Warrior of Zera lived and Warrior of Zera faces being infused with his power in a transfer ritual of some sort in Pandemonium (whose original name is basically "Dark World") (perhaps Zera is old and wants his power to live on in a worthy host). He seeks the power of the Archlords to avoid this fate.

The names might have meaning but as far as I know they have no story, at least not in the cards. They have yet to appear on other cards telling any kind of story.

What about Warrior Dai Grepher on the cards "The A. Forces", "Array of Revealing Light" and "Morale Boost"?
The first two just show random battles. Morale Boost depicts Dai Grepher wielding the demonic blade Wicked Breaking Flamberge-Baou, its effect symbolizing how Dai Grepher will gain strength (life points) from it, but will lose something (life points) if he loses the blade. It may be that using and then losing Flamberge is what triggers his transformation in Falling Down.
If so, his story may go a bit like this (not complete)
He fights Warrior Lady of the Wasteland for unknown reasons and ties with her (Simultaneous Loss) and gets caught up into the Different Dimension during the Dimensional Fissure events.
He fights D.D. Warrior Lady and loses to her (Dimension Wall)
Defeated, he returns from the D.D. World (note his torn armor in Dimensional Inversion)
He chooses to go down a dark path to gain power (Paths of Destiny)
He wields the Wicked Breaking Flamberge to gain power.
But as a consequence, he becomes infected with the evil powers of the Archfiends and becomes a slave to the power he seeks, being transformed into a monstrous creature (Falling Down)
He rampages, destroying all in his path (Sakuretsu Armor)

I am developing an urge to see what can be done along these lines for the Dark Scorpions, who appear on quite a few cards between them - their story to include Chick's odd association with Makyura and to reach its dramatic climax in the (GX anime only?) card Dark Scorpion Tragedy of Love - not quite shades of Antony and Cleopatra, perhaps, but we could use a good romance.

It is indeed a GX anime-only card so far. I do like its connotations though. Essentially the idea is that Meanae and Don Zaloog are in love, Meanae gets killed by some enemy and Don Zaloog gains a special effect as a result of his righteous fury right?

While there isn't a card showing Chick's association with Makyura (I can recall off the top of my head that Chick appears in Timidity but nothing else comes to me), it just seems much too good a quirk of the game to pass up that Chick and Makyura are part of a duel-winning loop; that has to make its way into the DS backstory; possibly it's the reason the other Dark Scorpions keep Chick around.
I remember how, reading about Don Zaruug before PHG was released, I took it into my head that Don wasn't just his Christian name but a Spanish title, and pictured him as being somewhat like Zorro.

Harpies eat Ojamas (or chase them out of their hunting grounds), there isn't much more to it than that I think.
Like I said before, other monsters hate Ojamas because they're ugly and annoying. They get picked on in just about every card art where they associate with another monster (like Man Thro Cho).

As I understand it, Warrior Dai Grepher was formerly Dark Blade, the refered to mysterious past and being both dragon manipulators. In Falling Down he basically reverts back to his old ways after making the choice in Forked Path of Destiny.

I think it may have something to do with that cult movie "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes".
Also, Aariku now refers to that second card as "Roosteroach Knight" due to the silly Pojo filters. I had to lol at that & had it sigged at one point in time. :D

I don't know if anyone has come up with this but it seems our good friend Freed the Brave Wanderer becomes Freed the Matchless General, then after some events loses an eye get old and becomes the Grandmaster of the Six Samurai (which would make more sense if they kept the Japanese Six Warmasters name). Look at the pictures:
Freed the Brave Wanderer: an enigmatic young man, possible a noble knight out for adventure, clean cut and well bred
Freed the Matchless General: While still showing a youthful gleam in his eye, a slightly more rugged and older looking (note the moustache) Freed contemplates his army's next move.
Grandmaster of the Six Samurai: After a large time skip we meet Freed in his older years (50-60? maybe mid 40s). He's lost an eye somewhere in his travels, and his golden mane of hair is now silver. He has chosen to lead a new band of warriors into the coming age after the War of the Different Dimensions (the Dai Grepher/DDWL arc) and the Archfiend Invasion (Marauding Captain/Terrorking Archfiend.)
I just see Freed and the Marauding Captain as existing in the same time period. Possibly Freed as a recruit of Captain's who later becomes a leader of his own regiment or whatever, and then after many campaigns (not necessarily all successful) accepts the task handed to him by Enishi and Shien to train Yariza, Nisashi, Irou, Zanji, Kamon, and Yaichi, thus becoming the Grandmaster of the Six Samurai.
Any ideas on this?

There is no story with Mystic Tomato aside from the reference to Attack of the Killer Tomatos mentioned earlier. However, there is a story to the art, in that the Japanese version looks a lot more like a jack-o-lantern than a tomato (though its still called "killer tomato" I think).
I'm pretty sure "warmasters" was just a fanlation. The Samurai have always been meant to be just that, Samurai.
And I find Grandmaster's eyes to be too different for him to be the same as Freed. There really isn't anything connecting them aside from a casual physical resemblance and all indications are they are completely unrelated groups of monsters.
I'm not saying you're surely wrong, I just don't see it as being likely.

I don't know if you're being sarcastic, but D.D. Warrior's original name is Ijigen no Senshi, which means approximately "Warrior of another dimension." Though gender isn't specified in the name, it was always assumed to be male, just by the fact that he LOOKS male. It was even further confirmed by the release of Ijigen no Onnasenshi (D.D. Warrior Lady), in which the "Onna" portion means "woman." This is obviously just a throwback to the original, much in the way of Lightning Vortex or Skull Archfiend of the Lightning.

Anybody got any connections on the Gladiator Beasts or Cloudians?
Well the Gladiator Beast's names and weapons are obviously based on various mythical and real people and aspects of the ancient Roman gladiatorial fights.
It is important to note a gladiator arena didn't just feature gladiators fighting. It also included lower ranking slaves being sent out to fight against various wild animals that had been captured in other lands, sort of as warm up fights for the main gladiator event. Test Tiger is obviously an allusion to this, as is test Ape who has the effect of summoning a Gladiator Beast and as I recall was called something like Slave Ape in the OCG. The Gladiator Beasts basically combine the beast and human aspects of the gladiator battles with a good dose of fanciful weaponry.
Gladiators themselves were largely slaves, though they could become very rich and powerful if they did well in the fights. Such famous gladiators were rarely killed in fights simply because they were such a good source of revenue. The desire to see death was fulfilled by the various "expendable" slaves who would be sent out to fight wild animals or each other to the death.

Excelent work. Your really did your research. I think you could have gone more into Fenrir. For instance how Tyr, the norse god of War, lost his hand by putting it into Fenrir's mouth while Fenrir was being chained to the boulder. I was a little disappointed to see that Humuculus (sp?) the Alchemic Being didn't make your list.

My point was you could have 'snipped' (deleted) the various entries as many other forum users do when quoting such posts, thus replying to that post without forcing other users to scan past such a massive quote.

I think it may have something to do with that cult movie "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes".
Also, Aariku now refers to that second card as "Roosteroach Knight" due to the silly Pojo filters. I had to lol at that & had it sigged at one point in time. :D

But anyway, Minamoto no Yo****sune was the one who defeated Benkei at the Gojo Bridge. He followed Yo****sune into the Genpei War after against the Taira. Yo****sune's brother Yoriatomo turned on them and they became outlaws. They were eventually cornered at the Castle Koromogawa no tate. Benkei fought on while Yo****sune committed ritualistic suicide in the castle. It was impossible to fight Benkei in combat and win, so they just shot arrows across the bridge at him.
Additional Comment:
And the censors go on to butcher the classic play of Yo'excrement'sune:rolleyes:

Any story on Il Blud? and whos the zombie master? just some kid who gains the borrow to ressurect zombies?
matter fact whats the idea behind the gemini monsters?
Most people I talk to think Il Blud was inspired by Oogie Boogie from Nightmare before Christmas.
I've been trying to connect the various neos fusion to their influence
there are my best gusses
Neos: The Guyver
Flare Neos :Kamen Rider (Masked Rider)
Dark Neos : Gatchaman (Battle for the Planets)
Grand Neos :New Getter Robo (Getter Robo version 2)
Aqua Neos: Still looks like Guyver
I'm having trouble placing Air Neos, Glow Neos, and Magma Neos
Are the Cores/Tetrans based off Gladius, the videogame?
Oh, and I'm doing an Art College project on YuGiOh and this whole mythology thing interests me..

Sorry Gourry, but the Cloudians are just named after the different types of clouds in the sky.
Here are a few examples:
Cumulonimbus is the cloud of storms and rain or showers. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Wea00119.jpg)
cirrostratus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Cirrocumulus.jpg)

Why not? If we can have monsters based on superheroes, anthropomorphic vehicles, magnets, and even LEGO bricks, why not clouds? Why not something that has existed universally throughout nature for the entire history of the human race?

Benkei carries weapons of the 999th men he slaughtered in order to achieve his victory. On his 1,000th battle he was beaten but not killed I guess that's why the Japanese version has the arrows sticking out of him.

4Kids is not responsible for the censoring of TCG cards. Heck there are some they left uncensored in the anime that are censored in the TCG (Thunder Nyan Nyan) and some they censored in the anime that aren't censored in the TCG (Amazoness Paladin).

Ojama king... Elvis Presley anyone?

You missed Tsukuyomi and Ben Kei!
Tsuki is God Of The Moon
While Ben tells the story of how he killed over 999 soldiers and took all their weapons (True story).
Actually, all of the Spirit monsters are related to some sort of mythology or theology.
Inaba White Rabbit is based on "Usagi Tsuki no," the rabbit on the moon, which was partially involved in the creation of the Sailor Moon character.
Susa Soldier is based on Susanoo-O no Mikoto, and Yamata Dragon is based on the Yamata no Orochi, characters from the early parts of the Japanese creationism story. Some of the other references escape me at the moment, I'm afraid.
But let's talk MODERN mythology while we're at it. I'll bring up some of my favorite cards: The Gradius sub-set.
Gradius: Based on the Vic Viper, the ship you play as in the space shooter video game Gradius.
Gradius' Options: In the game, you can attain Power Capsules to boost your ship's weapons and defensive capabilities. A curious little add-on are the Options, glowing orange orbs of light (presumably illuminate "bits," like some Mobile Suits can deploy) that follow your ship's movements and fire the same type of weapon when you do. Essentially, small duplicates of your ship.
Cyclon Laser: A measly plasma cannon can't sufice for too long. Grabbing enough Power Capsules unlocks a weapon that not only destroys enemy ships, but continues to pass through any remaining material. Equipped to a quartet of Options, a Cyclon Laser assault can take up most of the game screen! Just watch out for lag.
Victory Viper XX03: Obviously an upgrade of the Vicp Viper/Gradius type "Solar Strike" fighter jet. The overall design features elements found on the Core-type Battleships. Power Capsules help unlock upgrades to the ship's systems.
Core-Type Battleships (Big Core, Tetran, Covered Core and Crystal Core): Bacterium Empire Starships (B.E.S.), these are the "boss" characters featured throughout many of the Gradius games (Hence "Boss Rush). Their central power cores are defended by dense shielding, which must be penetrated before core can be destroyed ("SHOOT THE CORE!!").
Solar Flare Dragon: Fighting enemy spacecraft is bad enough. Having minimal shielding and armour plating with the hull integrity of a stale graham cracker is worse. But 400 foot long space-serpents comprised of sentient magma? That just sucks. Better unlock unlimited continues. When the stage BACKGROUND can kill you, you're gonna need'em.
That's al I can think of for now. I know the Flint Lock resembles a ship from the R-Type games, but I don't think they're truly related.

I'd also like to point out that Gradius (as well as several other Konami games) have a "Boss Rush" mode, where you simply fight all of the game's bosses in succession. That makes the effect of the card very appropriate.

Perentie is absolutely right, this isn't just "fan work" it's definately related to mythology, especially when you're using direct names like Fenrir, Trojan Horse, Homunculus and Harpies.
I hope Konami have documents/articles on how they got their inspiration for each of these..

The "story" consist mainly of a few fights between the two forces. Its not a story with a end or beginning really. All we know is that Marauding Captain opposes the Archfiends. He gets his scar from Terrorking Archfiend in Battle Scarred, his dropped sword gets a closeup in Drop Off, he survives to fight another day in The Warrior Returning Alive and then has various other adventures.

They have yet to appear on other cards telling any kind of story.
this will somewhat prove zera has an anime based mythology! (paragraph 2)
zera could also follow the story of He-man as showing instead of gaining the power of archlords he was a sort of ruler in a kingdom and the power of that would turn him into the mant (note the ritual has him on throne) compared to he-man where the power of greyskull is bestowed to him... another little notice point is the terrorking he somewhat resembles skeletor! anyway hence why he is fighting the archfiends also the dragon hilt for his sword could lead to something but i just don't know...
another point i may add, zera has some slight similarities to Mazinger Z (i know probably a few people noticed) anyway he has similarities because zera himself is like the OG mazinger the mant is the great mazinger(from the original series) and Pandimonium would probably be when the mazinger was destroyed and Mazera (sounds kinda like mazinga eh?) de'ville would be the mazinkaizer which is the actual final form of maziner, they both have similar properties to design. The wings the "face" on the body which means the "eyes" are the place that the lazer would emerge from during the mazinkaiser's breast fire. but really some of that is irrelevant and the othe notable aspect is the red horns they somewhat resemble the pilder mount area on the OG mazinger... but anyway during the mazinkaiser arc the great mazinger was realized to have a true version that would mean it would equal archlord zerato (zera would equal the zinga-part) of course these will both contradict because in an exact subtitle translation mazinger meant super devil robot(works for mazera eh?) but the great mazinger used lightning based attacks which would kind of make him resemble the archlord...
so, yeah... it kinda doesn't have to tie all the way in together but i'm guessing that was the original reason for the creation of the Zera series.
(if you wanna flame me use a message i would rather see the reactions opposed to ruining this thread.)
