Now that all is said and done, what do the other readers think about the Horcruxes and their introduction? Personally, I thought they felt rushed in. As I re-read Half-Blood Prince, and the other books, I gradually warmed up to them. Now I'm gaga over those dark artifacts.

It was meant to be a hushed topic in that world. Very dark magic like that would only be used by the most evil of wizards, and the requirements for its use were hideous. It wasnt widely discussed in the books because most characters did not know of their existence, and didnt NEED to know.
I dont feel it was rushed though. She (JK) spent alot of time telling us what Horcruxes do and how they are made. She didnt detail all the magicks that could destroy them, but didnt need to. We know of 2... Basilisk poison, and fiend fyre. That was enough to kill all of those Horcruxes.

The Horcruxes added a very vital element to the storyline and gave Voldemort that undefeatable feel that all truly evil characters need to make the conflict better.

I agree with all that tool1144 said too, very true.
