For me its HBP with DH as a close second.

Before the last 2 books came out,Goblet Of Fire was my favorite.
Now,however,I'd have to agree with you;it's a close tie between Half-Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows.
The final battle in Hallows was amazing, the movie should be fantastic.

Deathly Hallows by a mile for me. This is how I'd rank the books, personally:
1. Deathly Hallows
2. Goblet of Fire
3. Half-Blood Prince
4. Prisoner of Azkaban
5. Order of the Phoenix
6. Chamber of Secrets
7. Philosopher's/Sorceror's Stone
Though I love them all enormously, so most of the rankings are pretty close contests. But still, I thought Deathly Hallows blew everything previous out of the water.

5.Chamber of Secrets
6.Order of the Phoneix
7. Philsophers Stone

Coming off the new book hype, I can honestly say that The Deathly Hallows is my favorite of the series, followed by The Order of the Phoenix. My least favorite would either be The Sorcerer's Stone or The Half-Blood Prince. Three things I liked from THBP: Fenrir Greyback, Voldie's past, and the Horcruxes.

This is how i see it:
1. Deathly Hallows
2. Order of the Phoenix
3. Half-Blood Prince
4. Goblet of Fire
5. Prisoner of Azkaban
6. Chamber of Secrets
7. Sorceror's Stone
I really just liked the "grown up" feel of the 7th book...and while i think the HBP had some of that(or more so than any before it anyway), the Order of the Phoenix was just a really interesting book to me.

To me the series are some of the best fantasy writing since Tolkien. I also like The Deathly Hallowsb best, followed by The Order of the Phoenix. Now commences another long wait to see what Ms. Rowling will pen next. When I search at deal site, I found a recent deal for Harry Potter Boxset Books 1-7, I like them very much that I always want to buy a set of the books. They are on sale now: $117 instead of $195. Is it a good price? I want to buy them. Waiting any suggestion…This is the line to the deal.

I liked the 7th. It is in the top for me. But it wasn't the writing that gets me, or even the plot so much. Just the fact that people just DIED. Seriously...Hedwig dropping dead and then becoming fodder for Harry to blow up...I was hooked from then on.
Then of course Mad-Eye, and soon after Rufus Scrimegeor. It was a done deal for me to like this book after that. Although I wish I could have seen some of the fight between Rufus and the Death Eaters if there even WAS a struggle ya know?
Additional Comment:
hohopage100 - For hardcover, I'd say that's a decent price...If you don't care about hardcover though you could get them about half-price for the soft covers...

omgomgomg. I seriously LOVE Deathly Hallows the most. It was the most suspenseful, the most catching, the most dramatic, the most adventurous, the most you name it.
1. Deathly Hallows
2. Goblet Of Fire
3. Order Of The Phoenix
4. The Half Blood-Prince
5. The Chambers of Secrets
6. The Prisoners Of Azkaban
7. Philosipher's Stone
I actually thought for over 5 minutes about this. I'm not too sure about the ranking for 4-7 since they were ALL good.

Because there's not much activity in the HP Forums, I thought a poll would be good for this.
For me it's Prisoner of Azkabam. Maybe it's mostly just sentimental but it was the most magical book to me. It was soooo much better than 1 & 2 and really sparked my interest in the series. While the action in 6 & 7 was good, I liked the earlier ones better.
i like pie94

1& 2 werent serious enough 3 was the perfect mixture 4,5,and6 were a little confusing unless you read in a small enough time frame and 7 was perfect except for the ending.
SPOILER FOR WHOLE SERIES SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER!!!!
The ending battle harry vs voldemort was too simplistic. He just talked and then cast a curse countered him and won. the whole resurection thing was good but meh at the rest. Snapes memories were fantastic.

Now that the hype over the Deathly Hollows is over, I'd say that the Goblet of Fire was my favorite, with the Deathly Hallows as a VERY close second. In order, it'd be:
1)Goblet of Fire
2)Deathly Hallows
3)Order of the Phoenix
4)Prisoner of Azkaban
5)Half Blood Prince
6)Sorcerer's Stone
7)Chamber of Secrets

Umm...People please try not to kill me when I say this XD
But I kinda thought DH would be a little better. I mean, It's easily either first or second in the series (Avec Goblet), but I still thought It would be a little better. As Someone earlier stated, the final battle was kinda lame.
I don't know, I guess I was just expecting a lot more. Still, probably one of the best books I've read.

Deathly Hallows for me was great cause of the battles and just the intensity of it. Every book in the series is great for different reasons and it was hard to figure out in what order to put them in because I love them all. This is how I would list them tho:
1. Deathly Hallows
2. Goblet of Fire
3. Order of the Phoenix
4. Half-Blood Prince
5. Prisoner of Azkaban
6. Chamber of Secrets
7. Sorcerer's Stone
Order of the Phoenix. Character development, long, and just overall the best.
6 felt terribly rushed and short. 7 was good, but kind of overrated.
Let the hype die down and you'll realize it just wasn't that good.
The heart of the series, a school for witchcraft, was not present in it. Totally ruined it for me.

Sorcerer's Stone - This one was my favorite. First novel I read by myslef for fun. It was jsut great in every way
Prisoner of Azkaban- Loved this one becuase of Hogsmeade and then Sirius and jsut all around good.
Order of the Phoenix - Caracter develpoment and the Order and battles.
Goblet of Fire - A nice change of pace from the normal Hogwarts school stuff.
Half Blood Prince - Didnt seem Potterish enough but it was still good
Deathly Hallows - See above
Chamber of Secrets - This is the only one I accually slightly disliked. Didnt seem at all like a Harry Potter book and it accually got boring at parts.

4. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
5. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
6. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
7. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
That's where it stands for me.

**SPOILER** I loved Deathly Hallows but the ending was stupid and having Tonks and Lupin die? Also with Harry coming back from the dead was weird.
He was never dead to begin with.
When he got hit he was in a half living half dead sort of situation, where he had the choice to give up and die [Take a train] or summon up his determination and awaken.

Excuse me? Lupin had to die...he was the last Marauder living. Tonks had to die, because she could not have lived without her husband.
The thing that would tick ME off is if Lavender Brown is a werewolf. That would just be wrong.
If Harry did not return, Muggles would've been slaves to the wizards. Do you want that?

What are you talking about? Muggles would not have been slaves. The last Marauder doesn't mean he had to die. Also the ending was pretty stupid with the whole god-son thing. I don't believe the ending was written by Rowling.

Even Dumbledore said that Harry was not dead.
And don't you remember the statue "Magic is Might"? It shows a witch and a wizard sitting on NAKED Muggle bodies. "Muggles in their rightful place," as Hermione puts it. Not that she thinks it is right, but that is Voldemort's thought.
I'm sorry, but I think you failed to see the connection between Voldemort and Hitler. Go back to reading Berenstein Bears and Raggedy Ann, since you don't yet understand literature as complex as Harry Potter.
Irishfighter
08-23-2008, 05:38 PM
Harry Potter is not complex, not one bit. It was written mostly for children. My 9 year-old cousin reads them. I read books way more complex then this. Also, I've never even read or seen those books. And to call someone stupid on a Harry Potter forum is just sad. When did I ever say anything... anything about Voldemort? Never. I understand all right. Your just a sad HP fanboy who thinks Harry can't die.
Sarco the Legend
08-23-2008, 05:50 PM
Whatever you say. I am being sarcastic when I call it complex. Your problem is that you fail to see what the wizards have in store for Muggles. The only reason they had not told the Muggles that wizards existed yet is that Voldemort was waiting to kill Harry. Once Harry was out of the picture, Muggles would've been forced to polish the boots and wash the windows of pure-bloods, EVEN white-collar Muggles.
If you cannot see that, you failed to understand Harry Potter, which is why I sardonically called them "complex."
Your just a sad HP fanboy who thinks Harry can't die.
No, we just believe the series' writer over some random, obnoxious teenager on the internet.
Also, Dumbledore clearly said in the fourth book - and this is an idea repeating itself throughout the series - that you cannot bring back the dead to life, even with magic.
For one who's been reading incredibly complex books, you sure failed to see one of the main topics discussed in those oh-so-simplistic Harry Potter books.
Hollow Golem

Irishfighter, first off, Mangas are not way more complex. Harry did not die.
Harry Potter was not meant for just 9-year-olds, it is a very good series of novels with many underlying themes. I agree Lupin had to die, I was all for it. It added to the fact that everyone Harry ever saw as a partial adult or parental figure dies.
And, technically, they never mentioned anything about Harry's pulse stopping, his heart stopping, him releasing all of his bodily fluids on the impact of the Killing Curse, or anything that "technically" defines him as dead. Do you know what dead is? Apparently not, eh? Technically speaking, Irishfighter, you are an idiot.
I look at it this way, you can either read the books and enjoy them, set them aside and consider them a "good read". Or, like me, read the books, really enjoy them, read them again, appreciate them more (especially the part in the 4th novel where Dumbledore looks as if he has a triumphant look when Harry mentions Voldy being brought back with Harry's blood) and think it over and think "is this really completely a child's novel or something more?" And it is something more indeed, if you can see the underlying themes, which you cannot.
My only beef was the epilogue. I don't know why, but it didn't feel right. I realize that it kind of had to happen, but whatever.

First off I read books like The Wheel of Time series, and a lot of Dragonlance books. I never said it was meant for only 9 year-olds all I said was it was meant for younger people and that my 9 year old cousin reads them. I never said I didn't enjoy the books I'm just saying from the way I see it he was dead for a short period of time. I know what Dumbledore said in the book but to me he was dead. And what was with Fred, Hedwig, and Dobby's death? They were who I would have never suspected.

In the epilogue, it is apparent that Hagrid is still alive, and working as gamekeeper at Hogwarts. He must be around 85 at that time. If he had been a Muggle, he would not be able to move about and take care of magical beasts at that age. Well, he might be able to move, but not the latter.

To me, Hedwigs death was so she didn't have to write about any frustrations with who had to care for him. Dobby, perhaps, the same way. Or so we couldn't question, "Why doesn't he just summon Dobby?"
Fred came as a real surprise. I will admit that. But, hey, surprise is a good thing. It also added to the whole darkness of the series. It showed that she was not going to be sympathetic to who dies. Same reason, I believe she offed Colin Creevey. That was a much larger surprise to me and me feel very sorry for him.
As for your taste in books, they are perhaps on the same level of "complexity" as Harry Potter. Wheel of Time may be a bit higher, but the Dragonlance series is right with Harry Potter, if not, below.

Some Dragonlance are around the same level but Wheel of Time is higher. Dragonlance also isn't a series it's books written by many different authors. Dragonlance is basically the publisher. Oh and Hedwig is a girl not a boy, lol. I wouldn't have been suprised if she killed Hermione or Ron, though. Dumbledore in the 6th book came as a surprise, at least to me. Hopefully, in the movie we get to see him fall off the tower.

A lot of series are written by many different authors. The Baby-sitters' Club is one of them. I know what you're going to say. "It has Ann M. Martin's name on every single book!" But she only wrote 34 of them; a guy wrote 43; and the other ghostwriters are unknown.

It's a tough decision. I'm torn between the 3rd, 6th and 7th books. I think the 5th was my least favorite, but that's not to say it was bad.
The problem with the seventh book was that it was just really stretching it with out of character characters, boring camping sequences and pointless visits to different places.
Not to mention that, as I wrote before, they dropped the whole Wizarding School concept that the series built itself on... and that's so deliciously tragic.
Overall, I'd say it would be around the bottom for me [Next to 2 and 6], but still, the ending was good and the epilogue, albeit ridiculously cheesy, was decent.
