View Full Version : My Morphing Jar is Broken!
Mofox

It appears my latest article has touched a raw nerve with quite a few ygo players out there and for others who don't get it they seem to think I'm a noob loser who should realise that quite clearly Morphing Jar is not broken. For those idiots who did email me and don't understand I only want my Morphing Jar to be banned not everyone else's... only mine is broken!
Here read it for yourselves:
http://www.pojo.com/yu-gi-oh/FeaturedWriters/Mofox/2007/8-7.shtml
Reading the emails I have been getting has been funny but at the same time I'm a little worried, I mean is this game really that important? Is this influx of "hate" mail a true representation of the majority of ygo players? Can people not take a joke?
I remember a while back when Jaelove asked for Winged Kuriboh to be banned as part of a general banlist article and soo many people took him literally.
I suppose the question is do people take this game far too seriously?

I don't have a boner for Jar like you. And one of the scenarios in your article is easy to explain on why Jar worked so well against the deck in question.
However, Morphing Jar is too good and really should be put back on the banned list. It's an unbalanced get-out-of-trouble-skill-less card that doesn't need to see play if you aren't horrible at this game.

Banned? As I know, Morphing Jar has never been banned. And there were the times, when you could use 2 copies in one Deck.
ROCKS SHOULD NOT BE BANNED!!!!
@Mofox: Would you say the same thing to Card Destruction?

Please, have you people really become so competitive that you have a conniption when the the subject of banning Morphing Jar comes up, even in a joking manner?
You know what, if Jar were to be banned, then so be it. We will adapt.

Actually, Mofox has a point. Morphing Jar CAN be broken. I think several of us have lost to one of those deckouts, or gotten hit by someone not telegraphing the jar.
Set mon, set f/d. Does that look like I have a jar to you? Now, if you match me, and that thing makes it to my turn, I'm probably gonna slay you in card advantage.
Not to mention MJ allowing completely wasted hands to be come back from. I hate that thing.
Mofox, I love ya, man. That was funny as heck.

Eh, Everyone here seems to see this as serious/funny. From what i can see the article is "sarcastic(which is wit that can be funny but does not have to be)" and is a farce on all the complainers these days who want to ban a and EVERY card that beat them in the most unusual and luckiest of manners.
Morphing jar might have been able to luck out against DDT, But to any other deck, it would that much of a bother.
The article wasn't real persay, He took the stance of the people who are sore losers, just to show them a mirror and see how stupid that particular idea/opinion

I have beaten D-Hero Beatdown at my sneak preview with Aggro/Rush. I also beat chain burn and crystal beasts with that deck, but lost to bazoo/monarch hybrid. I made the chain burn duelist scoop on turn 2 cause I chained decree, and he set 3 waboku.

ZOMG Jar is like TOTALLY OVERPOWERED IT DECKED OUT DDT!!! -__-"
On a serious note, Jar doesn't need to be banned. Mofox's scenario was just perfect for his jar to own. How often do you actually see Morphing Jar deck someone out? Not alot of people use deck-out decks (I would love to run one...but it'll get owned so horribly -_-") cuz we all know its just not good enough to meet todays standard. I mean we usually have like 3 cards in our hand in a duel, and if I was to hit someone's morphing jar I wouldn't mind it since replenishing the hand is always a good thing. Also why ban Jar if not a lot of people use it? I mean its just like saying lets ban Magic Cylinder if it helped win Nationals or lets ban Advanced Ritual Art cuz of demise, and ruin the rest of the ritual monsters so they're back to collecting dust in binders. I prob could go on, but I think everyone gets the picture. Basically if a card like Morphing Jar helped win a duel like 1 out of every 25 matches then it doesn't need to be banned...but if a card like say...treeborn frog that practically helps win 15 out of the 25 matches then I would say ban it maybe.

I cant get over people lately. The article was clearly a joke, wether or not you found it funny(I personally did) is irrelelvant, its pretty obvious it was a joke, so coming on here and seriously discussing the authors views and whether or not morphing jar should be banned is just stupid.
This thread reminds me of another thread I read on here talking about if you back down from a duel you are a fool. Thw whole thread was one of the funniest I have seen in awhile. The poster was clearly joking, yet more than hlaf of the people who replied took it super seriously. (which admittedly added to the humor of the scenario).

I actually did deck out a guy once with a well timed morphing jar. It was easy, he seemed to enjoy milling himself with his Card Troopers.
People are taking things way too seriously, and I'll prove it.
I think that the blame for all of this fall upon global warming. The melting polar icecaps is adding a significant amount of Monohydrogen Dioxide into our worlds water supply. Upon consumption the Monohydrogen Dioxide eventually finds its way into the brain making it agitated and impulsive, which means even if your brain would normally realise that what it's reading was a joke it will interpret the articles meaning as literal and will respond in such a way. The only known way to purge the Monohydrogen Dioxide from your body is for at least 7 hours of sleep, in which case the body usualy converted the Monohydrgen Dioxide into harmless water.
If you believe anything of what you just read, go take a nap. You probably need it.

Your review wasn't offensive because it was a joke, since it's been tradition for Pojo reviews to have a humorous intro since 2000. Not that it was really all that funny anyway--the humor reminds me of a little brother trying to impress his older sibling with a "hey, look at what I did n00b pwn rofflecopter." Yet, your review could have offended for a few reasons, actually, listed in ascending order.
First, too many people run (ran?) DDT. These people took it personally.
Second, too many people take this card game too seriously. It's expensive to get Tier 1 cards, and it's even more expensive to maintain a tournament level deck with legality changing regularly. Not that the game doesn't need the regulation--just venting about how all the rarities changed in TAEV after a long hiatus of untouched sets since AST... and about how the best staples are in Tournament Packs or are only SJC promos. Yet, they do stupid things, like Gernia. GERNIA DOESN'T DESERVE TO BE A HOLO, LET ALONE A TP ULTRA!! Wtf!?
People also take this game too seriously because of the mindset YGO players generally have. They're win-focused, love the lucksack, and are tunnel visioned--either from originality, or from cookie cutting. Everyone has their reasons for hating certain card types.
Last, it contained nothing of non-humorous value, when a lot of people do actually read card reviews searching for tournament level insight and opinions.
Personally, I think nothing is out that makes Morphing Jar particularly broken right now outside of Dark World, and even then there's not much legitimate support for it outside of Night Assailant. In other non-Spellcaster decks, it's worth much less.
Cyber Jar was banned because it nukes, gives five new cards, AND special summons. Sure, it's a crap shoot, but there are plenty of cards like Goblins, Orcs, and Raremetal Dragon that made using this with three Maraudings very pleasant. Not to mention that you had the option of putting all those monsters in ATK mode or setting them.
Fiber Jar was banned because it was freakin' annoying. That, and I'm sure people really didn't like going against mill-removal and Serpentine Princess-Lily...
It doesn't matter with Cyber Jar, Morphing Jar, and Fiber Jar that they all help/hurt both players. ...Pot of Greed and Pot of Avarice, you two can shove it. SHARE THE GLORIOUS CARD DRAW, YOU LOSERS. LAWL

saying that only your own morphing jar is broken is naive and bridging towards idiocracy. everyone's morphing jar is broken, not just yours! thats why your getting so much hate mail. even if it was just a fun article, the timing for such a thing was really bad. considering the new format coming up and, as i recall another article discussing the very behavior you displayed, your own article came at the worst time. in a sense, its kinda cruel, like holding a gun to yugioh players all across the globe, and in the anticipation of the bullet, you tell, "BANG! haha i got you! just a joke though."
although, i guess its not possible to be completely agreeable with everyone. someone out their is bound to be offended, so i think you should just enjoy that while people are still angry. if you cant make them happy, laugh at them for being serious about yugioh.

I cbf reading anything besides "ban/no-ban M Jar??"
If Dark World was not already dead by now..banning MJ will kill it imo..
If Book of Moon get's semi'd, some silly person (like me) would remake Mill...
Shield Crush is coming out...nobody (but me) would main stoopid stuff like Desert Suns or Assault on GHQ's..
There's talk of NOC being banned & I dunno why...
My Morphing Jar aint broken because I use it in decks it should be used in & I just don't chuck it into any old deck...
We will have to wait & see what the ban list says..(even though it is rumoured to go)
Sorry for not reading the article, but I don't read many (any) articles anymore. I am too lazy & I admit it.

Morphing Jar won't be banned... It just got released in Japan as a common in the new structure deck and we'll be getting the deck over here in October hopefully unchanged. This instance did occur with Magician of Faith in the Spellcaster deck, but the deck had been out in Japan for months before the new banlist hit.

Ha this thread is almost as funny as all the emails I have been getting, difference being people are a little more reserved about themselves on here through fear of getting banned.
Let me try and offer some sort of explanation to the article although I'm tempted not to because the more people that take this article seriously the funnier this gets. The quote below I think touches upon the reason why I wrote the article.
despite the lies this man tells you, yugioh is serious buisness. what he speaks is blasphemy! KILL THE WITCH!
mofox...
saying that only your own morphing jar is broken is naive and bridging towards idiocracy. everyone's morphing jar is broken, not just yours! thats why your getting so much hate mail. even if it was just a fun article, the timing for such a thing was really bad. considering the new format coming up and, as i recall another article discussing the very behavior you displayed, your own article came at the worst time. in a sense, its kinda cruel, like holding a gun to yugioh players all across the globe, and in the anticipation of the bullet, you tell, "BANG! haha i got you! just a joke though."
although, i guess its not possible to be completely agreeable with everyone. someone out their is bound to be offended, so i think you should just enjoy that while people are still angry. if you cant make them happy, laugh at them for being serious about yugioh.
The reason for writing the article was simple, twice a year we have period like the one which is imminently about to fall upon us where we have endless discussions about what should and shouldn't be banned and every time this comes around we have all kinds of arguments, flames, e-gangsta's thugging it out over the forums etc. We also have repsected ygo names such as Jaelove and Sandtrap voicing their views over the banlist and more people complain and whine and claim they will quit if X card get banned etc. The article was merely poking fun at this whole episode we have before a new banlist is released. Anyone who didn't get that well to be honest is quite dumb.
Writing "comedy" so to speak is always going to get a mixed reaction and I fully exepcted the numerous "your such a *******" and "that was the worst article ever" kind of emails and posts. Not everyone will always get it! For those that did I'm glad it made you laugh.
So let me try and respond to some of the inidividual posts on this thread
i read the article and i seem to miss the humor, what with the trash talk, swearing, pointless rambling, i mean what was funny? was it some form of subtle humor? and who cares about morphing jar, it's a card in a game, whats the big deal? i suppose i'm missing something in this form of humor that isn't obvious but if your gonna call yourself a featured writer why not make an effort and create something worthwhile which helps, educates or makes the reader laugh, and you wonder why your getting nasty emails? duh!
I don't call myself a featured writer I am one by definition that my articles are posted on this website. Plus sometimes writing stuff that educates or helps takes so long and you have to do research and stuff and I just don't have that kind of time anymore. Plus it can also be boring writing about "here's a way to improve your skills" etc. As for missing something in the humour, yes you did it wasn't subtle it was smack you in the face sarcasm (some may say the lowest form of humour but hey I'm not fussy). Don't worry though quite clearly you aren't the only one who didn't get it.
Eh, Everyone here seems to see this as serious/funny. From what i can see the article is "sarcastic(which is wit that can be funny but does not have to be)" and is a farce on all the complainers these days who want to ban a and EVERY card that beat them in the most unusual and luckiest of manners.

Firstly I wasn't trying to impress anyone with my ownage of a pro ranked player, If you think I was then you've missed the point also.
Secondly, yes they did take it personally
Thirdly, yes it appears from the emails and even this thread that people do take this game too seriously.
Finally, yes it did have nothing of non-humourous value, although too many people posting on this thread seem to think it did.
Mofox you're awesome dude.
Funny how people haven't realised the sarcastic view of the article.
Oh and my Kuriboh is also broken; someone used Powerbond and summoned Cyber End Dragon with 900 Life Points while I had a clear field; but I whooped him with Kuriboh. Let's ban Kuriboh!
I second that motion, get Kuriboh banned now.
Anyone else want to make a fool of themselves?

Wow I wondered where you'd gone. Last I heard you lost a duel against someone who had a Seal of Orichalcos and your soul had been taken from you.
Dude, I am holding you personally responsible for me not qualifying for nationals in my first ever regional with a Spiritual Fire Art Aggro Deck.
Aaron, I'm married so breaking your ring is out of the question. But yes I do believe your ring is broken, UDE/Konami please add Aaron's ROD along with my Morphing Jar to the next banlist please.

Weeps, well you could have done what I did and Judge the Nationals ^_^...
You wouldn't have liked it though, but if I gave you my ring, and your Morphing Jar then you'd make one broken deck, just fill the rest in with filler (Skull servant etc). You'd have won nats for sure.
As for that last statement, I Sir!

That would take brokenness to a whole new level. It just wouldn't be fair. Maybe we should take that deck across the atlantic, sweep every SJC and make $$$$$ selling off the cards we win.
Surely you can't allow this to happen UDE/Konami, please ban these cards now before its too late.
At least its good to see that the recruitment process for nationals judges hasn't changed.
Nationals Head Judge: Aaron you will duel me to see if you can judge at Nationals
Aaron: ok bring it on, I have my broken ROD
Duel commences till...
Nationals Head Judge: I play Seal of Orichalcos, your judging soul is mine
Aaron: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Jar isn't that broken
Seriously it helps DW, Burn, and Samurai.
You can read a jar and there's more times than not that the Jar gets destroyed without it's effect activating. There are too many scenarios where Jar can be stopped
Stop complaining, Jar should not be banned.

Morphing Jar is a somewhat broken card, that much is obvious. However, he being banned should depend on the format (obviously). Right now I don't think he should be banned.
As for about 1/3 of the comments on this thread so far, you people are idiots to write such things. It's an article, an opinion, no need to try to destroy the guy for writing something that YOU didn't unnecessarily like.
The article was intended to be humorous, and for all of you who took it way to seriously, grow up and get a life.
And for everybody, I know that this card game is easy to get all caught up in, but every once in a while, it's good to sit back and realize that, although fun (and somewhat addictive), it is still just a card game. It's purpose is to entertain, not to stress people out or to make people angry.

Reviving an eleven months old thread and bringing it on the first page is considered a bump.
But I like it. :D

I prefer Matt's articles on Morphing Jar.

I lolīd, mostly because him flipping Mjar wouldnīt result in his loss, since you donīt lose from drawing your entire deck with the jar, you lose when you canīt draw anything in the Draw Phase :p

You lose the game when you can't draw when required to. He only had 3 cards in his deck and was required to draw 5 ;)

I've done the deck-out Morphing Jar combo several times in real life. And once had it happen to me. That was the only duel in which Snake Rain did not serve as my saving grace. XD
I agree about this game being about fun. Nice article. Very amusing.

If morphing jar is banned then banned DMOC.
I mean you cant abuse Morphing jar as badly as DMOC.

Please, have you people really become so competitive that you have a conniption when the the subject of banning Morphing Jar comes up, even in a joking manner?
You know what, if Jar were to be banned, then so be it. We will adapt.
it's mah favorite card! it kills me to see morphing be banned. it can be a game winner but its not that bad.
