View Full Version : Need help with EV training...

I've got a Vaporeon I'm trying to EV train...

Vaporeon (M) @ Leftovers/Lum Berry
Trait: Water Absorb
EVs: 100 HP / 252 Def / 158 SAtk
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Quick Attack
- Surf
- Rest
- Haze

...and the problem is defense training. What do you all train on for defense when EV training? The guide on Serebii suggested Sandshrews, but then there's those stupid Trapinch pokemon with the Arena Trap ability who keep blocking my Sceptile! *I EV train using an EXP Share and a Sceptile with maxed PP on Leaf Blade, Dragon Claw, and Thunderpunch* I don't want Atk EVs or whatever from Trapinch! I had another idea... Koffing and Torkoal in the Fiery Path, but still... I just don't know what to do for defense training. Should I just drop it and use a Haze Crobat instead? I need SOMETHING that can Haze, and Vaporeon was an awesome choice, but if I can't really EV train it that well... then again, there's always my Salamence(Aerial Ace, Dragon Dance, Earthquake, Hydro Pump) that I could go on ahead and train with, to step out of the Arena Trap ability... help plish? I need to know where YOU all do YOUR EV training for DEFENSE, or where YOU suggest that I do MINE.

Also, I need suggested movesets for a Battle Frontier Blaziken, and a decent EV spread to go with it. Assume that ALL IVs are at 0-I know they won't be, but base your EV spreads off of that. I'm not too good with Blaziken movesets and EV spreads, but I really like the pokemon, so... yeah. I want to have a Battle Frontier team like my siggy-Metagross(Choice Bander), Salamence/Latios(Special Sweeper), Vaporeon(Hazer/Wall) Snorlax(Wall/Belly Drummer), Blaziken(Mixed Sweeper), and Regice(Focus Punch, Boltbeam, Substitute-GGice, FPice, whatever)...

I've already got 4 of those pokemon completely EV trained(although I still need to level them up)... Gross, Mence, Lax, Ice... I've got a question-I've totally EV trained them with EXP Shares and the like, is it safe to Rare Candy them up to level 99 and then train them one more level to 100? I want to make sure I've got all the EVs in.

At the end of post#3 of the R/S/E Help Thread I listed choice locations for EV training. I used most/all of them.

IMO, if you like Vappy then stick with it. Meh.

After you gain all of your effort, you can use rare candy or even Day care to level up.

Got rare candy?

Doesn't duskull give defense evs?

Probably... but Duskull is kinda rare. I need common stuff... and SA didn't really help, cuz that's what I was already doing... so... I guess I just have to fight Sandshrews a LOT with my Salamence.

Er, dude... I hate to argue with a mod, but the places that YOU listed on the HELP thread didn't HELP, because that's exactly what Serebii said. I was looking for ANYWHERE else, and I don't want to sound rude, but you really didn't help.

I wanted a DIFFERENT Defense EV training place because of the stupid Trapinches everywhere-their Arena Trap ability is beyond annoying, you know... and I use a SCEPTILE to EV TRAIN my LOW LEVEL pokemon, in this case, Vaporeon. Sceptile can't escape Arena Trap, and I don't have a Roar TM on my Sceptile, so you really left me with nothing to work with.

I'm sorry to say that, please understand, but it really didn't help. I didn't want to have to use my Salamence, I wanted to stick with Sceptile, and I don't want to have to waste money buying fluffy tails to escape with.

I understand that you want us to use the help thread, but sometimes we just don't have time to search through this stuff.

Sorry again.

No problem. Many posters have used that list (myself included) and found it helpful, but if you didn't then oh well.

One thing I can tell you is that when we were putting that section together posters were trying diff areas and after a while agreed that the ones listed were good after all, by comparison to other areas they tried.

My point is if you find an area that you think is really a better place to train just post and lmk and I'll update the thread with your suggestion.

I doubt I'll find one, but thanks for understanding.

Have you tried Fiery Path? There's Koffings there, along with Torkoals-Koffing gives 1 EV, Torkoal gives 2.

No, I haven't EV trained there. If you think it is a really good spot then lmk. The main idea is to pick a spot where there is as little running away due to encountering non-target pokemon as possible.

Well, all I've been doing is running away from Trapinches.

You could try training it on Clamperl in underwater grassfields. They give 1 Def EV, along with Relicanth, which gives 1 Def and 1 HP EV, both of which Vaporeon need. Just be sure not to get too many HP EVs on Relicanth.

You could also try training on Cascoon and Silcoon in Petalburg woods, which both give 2 Def EVs each.

I gave up the Vaporeon, but thanks. New ingame team is Metagross, Medicham, Crobat, Salamence(Elemence), Snorlax, and Regice.

Oh you gave up on Vaporeon...But for the Def EV training you can battle Geodudes. They're an easy kill for Vappy.
