Got the new Starter set today... It has RotS Darth Vader, and RS Obi Wan Kenobi as the two rares. There is also a heavy stormtrooper, an elite storm trooper, a Heavy Rebel Trooper and an Elite Rebel Trooper.
All of the models have uniquely marked bases and cards. There is also a double sided map with a temple on one side and the Death Star II with Throne room on the other. Finally, there is a rule book,a sheet of damage markers, and a trusty generic orange 20 sided die. The packets are much smaller than the previous starters, with the figures contained on the outside in a clear blister. (only Vader and Obi wan are visible)
Retail price is $14.95
I like the figure mix, it's a fairer one on one team than Vader vs. farmboy Luke. I am also glad to see a starter set that seems geared towards new gamers and the Wal-mart crowd in Middle America. My first impression of the maps is "eh", going to have to play on them before I can say anything other than they do not look to be great. Neither seems to be huge friendly, and the Death star seems better for scenarios than open play.
Any thoughts out there?

Your Obi-wan is a different model, if that makes you feel better. All of the Rebels and Imperials and the Starter set all have unique markings on the cards and the bases.

Rebels and Imperials is kind of a sleeper set. The gamers are uninterested because they see it as "just" a reprint set. However, it is allowing the game to be more accessible to a new generation of players...
It also may be a good investment to complete a whole set, since many of these are being ignored by collectors and bought up by kids and such at Walmarts and Targets.
The Boba Fett and Darth Vader, (as well as your Obi Wan) will probably be some of the harder ones to find.

yeah, me and my friend both picked up one of these starters, and a couple boosters at walmart last night.
we played a quick game, and he played the vader. . .vader stomped my obi :p . . .then again we were just playing a practice game (not having fully read the rules) so i'm sure my next match will be much stronger.
looks like an intersting game though, and we'll give it a try (glad walmart carrys these kinds of games. . .i live in a small town in wyoming, and there's no local comic shops around where i live.).
thnx.

no targets around here. . .though it's okay, the walmart here has a big section for collectable games. . .and alot of it is marked down in price (i try picking up a couple new games each month).

This should really be in its own thread. At 300 it is going to get wasteed by most good players because it is WAAAYY low on activations. It will be activated out and your opponent will have 4-8 major characters to tee off on you with.

I just recently got back into the game and it was because i explained the rules of the D&D minis to a coworker. I remebered that I had afew Star Wars minis tucked away (Lando Calrissian, Bespin Guards and Dash Rendar among the very few) and that I could show her what the minis and the stat cards looked like, because trying to recreate them on a paper towel is not a very good idea. The next Day at a local YuGiOh tourney I saw the starter and said why not. Even though I actually never played a REAL game since I came back I can tell Im going to have a good experience.
