when you use perish song, does switching out end the effect or does the newly brought out pokemon get effected by it?

it ends the effect on the one switched out, but the effect stays on the one still in. the new battler does not recieve the perish song

ok i have a question about protect/detect now.
If you teach a Pokemon both moves, does it eliminate the problem of "failing if used in consecutive turns"?? You could alternate them and it wouldn't fail right?

yeah, i wondered that too, it would be perfect vs a slaking
or on a Tank like registeel, toxic+protect+detect and so on just repeat till they are dead
pure evil. :D

protect fails if used in succesion. i think detect fails on its own, about 10% of the time

Perish Song is passed with Baton Pass. Watch out ! I read that Protect and Detect use the same counter, meaning one will be 50% after the other. GyroYam, did you use the game itself or NetBattle/RSBot ?
