Plot Summary:
Carl Johnson returns from Liberty City to his home in the ghetto of Los Santos following his brother Brian's accidental death. Known as CJ to his friends, Carl arrives for the funeral, which is overshadowed by his elder brother Sweet Johnson's blaming the death on him. Unity is demanded when shortly after, the pair's mother is murdered. Faced with the threat of opposition gangs, and lost respect on the streets, Sweet, Carl, and friends Smoke and Ryder join together to recreate their previous clique, The Orange Grove Families (OGF). A reluctant Carl is provoked back into street life by two corrupt police officers, Frank Tenpenny and Eddie Polaski, bent on causing chaos for OGF. Unfortunately for the 'Grove, events take many twists, and Carl is brought back into a life he'd probably rather he'd left behind.

Game Features:
The following features have been confirmed for GTA: San Andreas:
• The game will be packaged on a single, dual-layer DVD.
• Entire state of San Andreas included, meaning three cities will be present in the game, each connected by countryside. Los Santos, a fictional Los Angeles, San Fierro, a rendition of San Francisco, and La Venturra, which is the Grand Theft Auto version of Las Vegas.
• Larger map, which is much more interesting and "alive" than Vice City. Hills have been confirmed, and even a mountain is to be included, which is tall enough to take up to ½ a minute to ascend in a helicopter.
• Tweaked Vice City engine, which can support up to four times the draw distance in rural areas compared to the previous game. Real time reflections, on metal areas of cars, and real time mirrors will be included.
• Improved transition between night and day, with a more immersive feeling included in each.
• Control method improvements mean strafing is now possible.
• A great deal of effort has ensured that countryside areas look and feel organic, with rivers, forests, rolling fields and desert areas. The development team has also improved urban areas by rounding off what would previously be 'square', right-angled corners.
• Smog will be present in Los Santos to give it a "real life" feeling.
• "Characters from the past" will return, with links to previous titles included for the 'hardcore' fan.
• Ragdoll physics, aka "Impact Animation" similar to that seen in recent PC titles like Far Cry, Half Life 2 and Max Payne 2.
• In La Venturra, set up a casino, or gamble in those owned by others.
• Recruit gang members and perform four person drive by's. (Screenshot)
• Pedal Bicycles. Tapping the X button will move the bicycle forward. (Screenshot)
• House robberies will take place but require skill and planning.
• Stamina Meter. Carl will have to consume food on his journey across San Andreas, and will gain weight if he eats too much. Gyms will be available to work out in.
• Hairstyling will play a prominent role, and will allow every user to create a unique experience for themselves. Pedestrians may poke fun at characters with outlandish looks.
• Countryside areas feature unique vehicles which won't appear in the urban areas, such as a quad bike.
• Police officers gain a new mode of transport, the motorcycle.
• Swimming is now possible, however, the game is not about swimming, and drowning is still possible. If players take a car into the water, the stamina meter will again come into play, and will offer a limited time to escape the vehicle, through a window or otherwise.
• Bouncing cars will be included, with the right analog stick controlling it.
• Improved control methods allow for new fist-fighting maneuvers, and the gun physics have been totally overhauled to provide a far more immersive experience.
• During a chase, police may try to jump and grab on to the trunk of your car.
• Artificial Intelligence has been vastly improved, with police reacting more like those in real life, and each pedestrian acting though they have a 'brain'. This also allows for stealth techniques to be employed by the player.
• Each city will feature many unique vehicles which won't be found elsewhere. For example, police helicopters will have their own lettering depending on their city of origin.
- On the game map Los Santos is only a tiny bit in the lower right corner.
- You can wear a lot of new clothes.
- Dual wield multiple gun types.
- More mini games.
- Vehicles get rusty and dirty as time goes by.
- Carl's customizations include: Hairstyle, Physique, Weight, Driveing Skills, Clothes, Possessions, Weapon Skills, Chracter, Relationships, Gang.
- The art team has snuck in plenty of special pictures and messages for fans.
- For the first time in a series the game will adjust its diffculty if the player becomes stuck. Rockstar assures that that the adjustments will be minimal and almost invisible to the players, so the missions won't become a breeze.
- At least once every couple of days your characer has to eat. If you skip meals he will be come weak, and if you feed him too much he gets slow and then gets fat. There is a wide selection of places to eat... so what you eat counts as well. Strength will effect his punches, but bulk up at the gym too much and he will loose speed...
- San Andreas has its own version of Hollywood called Vinewood.
- When the OGF fell from power, the new rival gangs The Flats and The Ballas moved in.
- Brian Johnson is CJ's 10 year old brother that died in an accident and the reason he went to Liberty City prison for five years.
- The Johnson family is in disarray as Carl and Kendl can't get along with Sweet.
- Frank Tenpenny and Eddie Polaski know CJ from when he was in juvenile hall, and now they harass him in SA.
- Cesar, a new Latino character wearing baggy slacks, an undershirt, tattoos, and a buzzcut has been confirmed.
- Old Reece is CJ's old barber that still gives him haircuts anytime he comes in.
- If Carl eats too much and gains too much weight, he is denied certain missions. Mission givers tell him to get in shape before starting.
- The game has the same HUD (heads up display) as in GTA III and Vice City.
- The graphical quality will be much improved. Visability (draw distance) will be 1km and a new technique will be introduced - parking cars, trees and other objects will be displayed with very low details if far away.
- Movements will be smoother and more fluent than in Vice City; Rockstar is trying
to keep constant 30fps, but that didn't yet quite work out in the test version that OPS2 saw.
- There's an automated aiming-aid that simplifies control, and of course it can be it turned off if you choose.
- If you press a button the camera zooms right behind the player, so you can aim at enemies with the analogstick (Manhunt style).
- There's three times as much music in SA and remarkably more weapons than in VC, and plus gameplay (the story) is three times longer than Vice City.
- Apprently 80% of the work on SA is done, and it comes not on a 4.7GB DVD but a
8.5GB double layer DVD - which has just enough room for the game with help of good compressing-techniques (that indicates the dimensions SA will have)!
- Some parts of missions will take place in the countryside outside of the three cities.
- Orange Grove is the name of one of the districts and that is where the Orange Grove Families name comes from.
- The textures will be photographed ones as well as self-drawn ones.
- There will be less pop-up of distant objects. Houses can be seen from far away.
- Groups of trees will be rendered as a group from distance. If you get closer, they'll be rendered separately. Because of this, a bigger draw distance is possible.
- The magazine claims that the animations will be even better than in Vice City.

Game Informer: August 2004
posted by Neil @ 19:07:50 | Category: News | Comments: 24

The August 2004 issue of Game Informer will hit newsstands across the US on July 23rd, but we've managed to find out all the information that's contained within, pertaining to San Andreas.

-- The camera can be controlled while walking or running using the right stick on the controller.
-- The main feature of the targetting system from Vice City; locking on, has been retained, but this time you can strafe left and right while you are aiming.

The magazine also contains three screenshots which have not been seen elsewhere.

The first screenshot shows a 'Vinewood' sign, in true Hollywood style. A television/radio/telephone mast is also seen atop the same hill. The second screenshot depicts Carl Johnson with a pump action shotgun, in a suburban environment. Two cars also appear in the screenshot, with one looking extremely similar to the Vice City Esperanto and the front of what looks like a Voodoo. Damage modelling appears to have received no improvement so far, however both cars have Xbox-esque 3D wheels. The final new screenshot gives us our first real insight into what the police car will look like. The overall colour appears to be black, with the trunk being raised higher than the Vice City cop car.

For legal reasons, these screenshots cannot be posted on our server.
Thanks to 'fourengland' for providing the basis of this information.

-- While targetting an opponent, the camera will move to just above CJ's right shoulder, giving the player a better view of the action. Holding the target button longer will aim towards the opponent's head.
-- Draw distances are confirmed as being 2x higher than Vice City in the urban areas and 4x higher in the rural areas.
-- Streets are now much more full, with the feeling of 'emptiness' from Vice City now completely gone. There will be an endless stream of other cars for CJ to steal.
-- Two small towns in the rural areas have been named as Angel Pine and Dillamore
-- The legendary mountain has been named as Mount Chiliaid, and is over half a mile tall. Rivers, beaten tracks and cliff top roads criss cross what can be described as the largest object in any Grand Theft Auto game, ever.
-- A female character from a previous game will return, lodging in a forest cabin which CJ will come to use as a hideout.
-- One mission involves Carl and his unnamed female accomplice travelling to Dillamore gas station, attempting to rob the office, but being hampered by the bullet proof glass recently installed by the owner. Instead, Carl and friend steal the fuel tanker which is sitting outside. One twist - the fuel tank trailer isn't connected to the front, so Carl must connect the two. Once an escape has been made, players must take care not to jack-knife the vehicle on the treacherous rural roads, all the while being chased by the owners of the gas station in their cars.
Vehicles
-- Combine Harvesters will be included, and are likely able to be player controlled.
-- Mobile Hot Dog Vans will be present, but as yet no missions involving sales are confirmed.
-- The police helicopter will include a spotlight which can be shot out.
-- Updated versions of the Walton, Voodoo, Sabre, Sanchez, Patriot & Linerunner (with or without trailer) will be present.
-- A 4x4 vehicle (four wheel drive) will be incorporated in the rural areas, allowing players to traverse the bumpy terrain with ease.
-- For the ultimate driver, a monster truck will allow for the crossing of extremely difficult ridges, bumps and even shallow rivers.

Some of the music that will be in the game.
Salt'n'Pepa - Push it
Vanilla Ice - Ice Ice Baby
Inner Circle - Bad Boys
KLF - 3am Eternal
Massive Attack - Unfinished Sympathy
Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
Jane's Addiction - Been Caught Stealing
Poison - Every Rose Has It's Thorn
Guns'n'Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine
Smashing Pumpkins - Today
NWA - **** Tha Police / 100 Miles And Runnnin'
Snoop Doggy Dogg - Gin N'Juice / Ain't No Fun
Warren G - Regulate
Fugees - Killing Me Softly
Coolio - Gangsta's Paradise
Public Enemy - Rebel Without A Pause
The Stone Roses - Fools Gold
Happy Mondays - Step On
The Verve - Bitter Sweet Symphony
Radiohead - Creep

-- Three franchise restaurants are to be included: Burger Shot, Well Stacked Pizza and Cluckin Bell, a Mr. Whoopee ice cream stand, as well as the Sprunk Soda brand beverage which was in Vice City.

-- A message will pop up onscreen when Carl becomes hungry. Players who ignore this message will see CJ's bodyfat reduce, with the effect of his clothes no longer fitting properly. Skininess won't just have a visual effect either, a thin Carl will be weak, unable to throw powerful punches, lift heavy boxes and will lack stamina, meaning cycling, running and swimming become difficult.

-- Conversely, eating too much will see Carl become fat, with similar effects of loss of stamina, poor fighting abilities (due to slow response times AND CJ becoming a larger object to hit). Interestingly, the walking animation will change, to a penguin style 'waddle' due to CJ's inability to put his hands by his sides while in this state.

1. Here the names of some other small towns in San Andreas: Shady Creeks, Flint County, Whetstone, Fern Ridge, and Red County.

2. Each major city will have it's own airport where you will be able to steal a Dodo and fly around the state.

3. You'll be able to pick up hitchhikers.

4. You'll have a tow truck that will tow cars.

5. You will be able to choose your own camera angle with the right analog stick.

6. You can find a wide array of outfits in shops around the state.

GamesTM, an Australian multiformat games magazine "aimed at older hardcore gamers", has published new information about San Andreas.
-- The clothes CJ wears will be fully customisable. Players can go shopping to change his outfit.
-- Pedestrians will feature massively improved AI. Each pedestrian 'lives a life', you can 'stalk' them and see them perform tasks, such as going shopping, and then returning home.

"...You might see a couple walking down the street holding hands. If you push between them, they'll react and then grab each other again."
-- Jeff Castenada, Rockstar Games

-- Country style music is confirmed, and will likely feature both on radio and within the twelve small rural towns.
-- Mount Chiliad casts a huge shadow over the rest of the game area, which is technically achieved through Radiosity Lighting, a graphical technique which will be employed to greater degree in San Andreas.

GameSpot has released a nice three page artical on Eating in GTA: San Andreas. Click here (http://ps2.gamespy.com/playstation-2/grand-theft-auto-san-andreas/534175p1.html?fromint=1) too read.

Gamespot Preview Online

Gamespot have posted their preview on their site. It features a wealth of new information, and eight brand new screenshots.

-- Carjacking will be much more difficult this time. However, Carl will have a wealth of moves at his disposal, including pistol whips, kicks, punches and banging heads off the dash to ensure he can 'borrow' a new set of wheels.
-- Stunts/Tricks are possible on the game's bicycles, including endos, wheelies, hops, 180's and 360's.
-- St. Brutus Motel isn't just part of one mission, it'll operate as a general meeting place throughout the game.
-- Carl can learn new fighting moves as his stat levels for each physical ability increase.
-- San Fierro's gym will be in the 'Dojo' style and will allow a totally different set of fighting techniques to be learned than in Los Santos's gym or the gym in Las Venturas.
-- CJ can defend himself from incoming hits, likely using his arms, legs etc.
-- The police helicopter's light affects the view of the action, looking into it will produce a 'blinding' effect.
-- Police will duck for cover and reappear during a fight.
-- Cops on motorbikes will fire their weapons while chasing.
-- Environments will contain a greater degree of interactivity, with trees swaying in the wind, heat haze and billboards which players can drive their cars through, of course destroying them in the process.

New IGN Screens And Article!

Maybe trying to beat GameSpot to the punch, IGN has posted a new article focusing on details such as tattoos, camera control, car cleanliness, and gang tactics. See our summary of this article below.

IGN has also updated their SA Gallery (http://media.ps2.ign.com/media/611/611957/imgs_1.html) with a ton of new screens - the ones we just posted from Rockstar, and seven brand new ones. They show off CJ walking in front of a tattoo parlor, getting a tattoo, inside the tattoo shop, some actions of gang members, and a car outside a car wash.

So we have some nice shots of gang members and definitive proof of tattoo customization. All in all some extraordinarily detailed screenshots. And don't forget that GameSpot is supposed to have a new preview tonight as well (let's hope it's entirely different)!

Tattoos:
To customize a tattoo, you must first find a tattoo parlor. The one in Los Santos is next to Reece's Hair and Facial Studio. Once you are inside, you can select the style and body part of the tattoo. Most of the tattoos will have to do with gangs (lingo and/or symbols). Most of the tattoos featured in Los Santos involve gang names, guns, and women. However, San Fierro's tattoos will feature Aztec sybmols, drug icons, and other "laid back images." In Las Venturra, on the other hand, tattoos will include things like cards, dice, and other casino-like images.

"We wanted people to be in complete control of their characters," remarked Leslie Benzies, President of Rockstar North. "If they didn't like the way he dressed, they could earn enough money to buy new clothes. The tattoo feature works the same way, only the motivation is different. If you were in a gang, you'd get a gang tattoo showing that."

Camera Angles:
Although good gameplay and graphics are essential for a great game, camera angles are just as important. Rockstar North has realized this, and they want to make the camera angles of San Andreas as good as they can get.

In San Andreas, the right analog stick will control the camera angles. This includes free moving camera both in vehicles and on foot. Using a weapon while doing so will allow you to target your enemies. Wait, it gets better! You won't have to be standing still while aiming! While aiming with the R-Stick, players can also strafe with the Left analog stick which will provide great gun battles and all-around, better gameplay.

Car Cleanliness:
Over time your car will accumulate dirt around the wheels, muck on the windshield if you drive through dirty areas, and if you don't take your car to a car wash you will find it becoming rusty. All of this is determined by how much you drive the vehicle. Also, the vehicles of NPCs will become dirty and banged up with details like broken windows, loose bumbers, and bullet holes.

Gang Tactics:
Gang members have lives of their own, whether they are in action or not. While standing around they drink, smoke, and socialize. If you bring enemies into friendly turf any gang member in sight will instantly join in to help you, if your relation is strong enough with them. Likewise, if you go to enemy gang territory they will all team up against you - and use intelligent tactics. They learn from each encounter, so while the first time you may have outrun your attackers after they shot up your car, the second time they could send members up ahead to intercept you. Gangs communicate with each other and change tactics based on the situation.

"We spent a lot of time getting that level of interaction right and making it unique," remarked Benzies. "We wanted to convey very clearly that the gangs had a certain way of communicating, very definite mannerisms, and yet had to create signs and language all our own that was faithful to the world we're trying to depict. It was challenging, but it adds a startling level of detail to the game."

Yeah, could we get a link to all this info you found on the features etec? If its all true hell, I'm definitly going to get it. Or at least get my friend to buy it and borrow it -_-. The new features sound sweet. Its about time we can swim and get police motorcycles! Seeing as how this mostly takes place in a GTA version of Cali there better be Yakuza and Triads! Asian Pride lol!

well this is a great idea (to me at least): have online mode where u and ur gang just drive around doing ur missions or whatnot and u encounter other gangs like in the game and u can have fights or team up and stuff.

This game sadly doesnt have online play but actually that doesnt matter since online play would so screw-up the story line and how large this game is going to be. Trust me the next one will have online play but for single player in this game it will be one of the greatest games made. I will really like to see which game will be bigger this year GTA: San Andreas or Halo 2.

game sounds great. but with it being so big i think load times for city transfer are going to be hours okay maybe a minute or two. but fairly long nonetheless.

i think this was missed: music will probably be that of the early ninties with some classic gangsta rap. all i care for is that there is some nirvana and pearl jam (gaw i can't believe i couldn't remember pearl jam)

Wow the environments have really captivated my interest in the game like no other. I love the whole country rural feel while also having the massive cities in it. The environments just sound soo much fun to play in. That hideout idea is pretty cool too.

Well, right now it is but the rap makes sence because of the getto city. There are still two other cities that will have rock, country, and talk radio. More info has been released but realy its just a restating of what we already know. The info will not be posted. The info talks about how pedestrains(sp?) will be smart and how you can change you appearence. Like you can change your tattoos, hair, and stuff like that.

New information:

New Information July 29, 2004

07-29-2004, 02:38 PM

-- Mount Chiliad casts a huge shadow over the rest of the game area, which is technically achieved through Radiosity Lighting, a graphical technique which will be employed to greater degree in San Andreas.

ssj12

9mm Pistol

Here's a weapon that almost looks like a glock or beretta. It may be weak, but it's cheap and easy to find.

Unknown Pistol

Since the picture doesn't give a very good shot of the pistol (held by the man on the far right) we're not able to tell what it is. However, chances are it is either a beretta, glock, or a colt .45.

Uzi

The Uzi, popular among the gangsters, will probably be one of the most common guns in San Andreas. Maybe even dual capability!

Shotgun

Pump shotguns also seem like they will play a big role in San Andreas. They are effective and they conserve ammo.

M16

This is an powerful automatic gun that will be great for taking out numerous people. It looks like the M60 from Vice City, and it will probably act like the M60, too.

Sources: Reeses Puff Cereal (http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=36831&topic=15426666), Psy (http://www.gta-sanandreas.com/)
Links: IGN Gallery (http://media.ps2.ign.com/media/611/611957/imgs_1.html), IGN Article (http://ps2.ign.com/articles/534/534690p1.html)

Gamespot: On the Spot

On the Spot, Gamespot's live weekly webcast, has just finished. The show featured a segment about Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, where executive editor Greg Kasavin gave a round up of all the confirmed features in San Andreas and answered a few questions about the game from Gamespot's premium members. I was lucky enough to have my question about the blurry 'trails' effect answered (listen out for "Neil Christie from Scotland"). Greg basically said that it hasn't been confirmed nor denied, but he thinks it will be back. On the topic of ragdoll physics [aka impact animation], a comment was made that it will not be present in the game, a stark contrast to another gaming publication's coverage.

-- Not all missions will carry a cash reward.

-- Sneaking mode will be enabled by wearing a balaclava or ski mask.

-- A fence will purchase stolen goods from you.
-- Silenced weapons are in.

From the IGN article:
-- You can choose from gang clothes and street/casual wear.
-- You will need certain clothes to complete certain missions.

-- There are various barber shops to choose from throughout San Andreas.
-- You will be determined a threat to gangs depending on your hairstyle/appearance.
-- Binco is the name of a cheap clothing store in The Grove.
-- SubUrban is a clothing outlet in Ganton (Watts inspired, Ballas Area), which sells expensive clothes.
-- ProLaps, located in Downtown Los Santos, sells very expensive, sports-style clothes, which will allow him to blend in more with the rest of the public.
-- More expensive clothes will gain more respect, while Gang clothes will attract attention, from your gang, rival gangs and the police.

No the whole point of my post is "I was looking on around at different websites, and saw somebody say GTA: SA wouldn't be as good as Vice Cty, and I find that surprising because personally, I think SA will be way better than Vice City." When I said GTA: SA is gonna be my "game of the year", I said that because personally it will be my game of the year. It's the game I'm most excited about. Come to think of it, Resident Evil 4 would've been the game I was looking forward to most, but it's release date got pushed all the way into 2005. Which is good, because once that happened, I truly began focusing on GTA: SA more

Edit: Looking at the whole Halo thing, I don't disagree with it. Halo 2 is also a big title coming out

- The country town of Angel Pine has a family-owned liquor store, a small bakery, a single-screen movie theater, and a motel named "U-Get-In".
- A new lethal weapon, the Desert Eagle, is introduced in San Andreas.
- A funny new vehicle has been added like the Baggage Handler or the Caddy; the lawnmower.
- West of Los Santos is a RU Haul truck stop, where CJ can do 18 wheeler races as a side mission. For a payoff you can deliver goods in the semi-trailer which has its own new physics.
- Foliage is randomly rendered so the terrain is ever changing.
- No longer is there a moon texture, now there is a real moon on a 30 day lunar cycle.
- Stars and the night sky is clearer out in the countryside.

Yep, just a few minutes ago, I read about that on the Gamefaqs message board of GTA: SA. I was a tad bit disappointed at first. But then, a few seconds later, I'm happy Rockstar is tesing the game one more time before releasing it. Maybe they're trying to make sure they fully-completed the game. I can wait one more week, but if it were one more month... THEN... but oh well, I think this may be a good move on Rockstar's part

well the game has only been held back what... a week. Thats not that long at all. Even though I really want to get it as soon as I can as long as the game isnt held back any farther Ill be happy :D . Anyways here is the new informationon Las Venturas.

-- There are plenty of casinos to gamble in, like the V-Rock Casino, styled like the Hard Rock Cafe. Other Casinos include "The Visage", "Pirates in Men's Pants", "Caligula's Palace" and "The Pink Swan".
-- While in a casino, there are a variety of minigames available to play, such as Blackjack, Video Poker, Wheel of Fortune, Slots and Craps.
-- Elvis Presley impersonators are present in Las Venturas for a little bit of drunken humor.
-- The famous Las Vegas cowboy sign is included in San Andreas, but features Avery Carrington (of Vice City Fame) instead.
-- A giant Candy Suxx statue adorns the exterior of one of Las Venturas' buildings.

Yep, I knew we were going to capable of gambling in casinos. Can't wait. I want to see the Elvis Presley impersonators! That'll be funny. Seems Candy Suxx has become very popular since Vice City

Ummm....the new game looks great and all but can someone that knows about this for sure tell me what exactly happened to Tommy Vercetti? It seems like he just dropped off the face of the earth. I was getting used to kickin' @$$ with him too and then they drop him. Who? What? When? Why? Where? How?

Please PM me with this info if you answer...I probably won't be in this forum.

Nope, don't know the full soundtrack. I only know a few songs that I heard on the Gamefaqs message board and I forgot what THEY were!

Other than the music that I posted the soundtrack is unknown. The game will contain country, rap, hiphop, rock (all types punk, etc), and techno. Other than that I cant tell you anything. But here is a news for you guys.

Dialouge Boxes: When communicating with NPCs, players will be given simple answer options for posed questions.

Climbing: Your character now has the ability to jump, gra-on and climb over almost any "reachable" object in the game. This includes crates and backyard fences with animations reminiscent of the foot component of Tony Hawk Underground.

Altitude: Gamers expecting the flat terrain of Vice City will be shocked by the extreme variety in altitude through SA. Not only is there a mountain, but the countryside drifts between highs and lows like a drawn out rollercoaster. Even in the cities there are some sharp slopes, which is great for jumps.

Vehicle Jacking: Almost everything in the game can be jacked. In our demo we saw; pushbikes, motorbikes, quad-bikes, dirt-bikes, Harley's, Monster Trucks, 4WDs, convertibles, lowriders, dinghys, tractors, combine harvesters, speedboats, helicopters, light-planes, trams and there were some tasty hints regarding trains and possibly even skateboards. The animations and AI reactions were quite varied too.

GTA: San Andreas Officially Rated M. The ESRB has put these game warnings on it. Intense Violence (GTA 3 and Vice City only had Violence as the rating), Blood and Gore, Strong Launguage, Strong S.e.xual (take out the .'s) Content, and Use of D.r.u.g.s.

How this game didnt get an A rating is a total mystery. From just that not even looking at my past updates you can tell this is an awesome game.

Dark Malik
09-24-2004, 08:04 PM
I knew it'd be rated M. If it were rated something like T, I'd be extremely pissed right about now. So what grade did the game get? I'm surprised it didn't get an A. It's obviously going to be the best GTA yet

meteoraclown
09-24-2004, 08:36 PM
whats the A grade? unless you mean A-O. which that rating hasn't been used since like 96 or sumtin. if GTA was rated that then R* would lose so much money due to the age you to be to get it.

ssj12
09-24-2004, 08:48 PM
I disagree. Remember M games are extremely popular so and A-O game of this caliber would make R* millions (maybe billions) of dollors richer then ehat the current rating is.

Carl Johnson Voice Actor Revealed!

Today, we can reveal that the actor voicing Carl Johnson in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas will be none other than Young Maylay, an up-and-coming musician from Los Angeles. Speaking exclusively to Official Playstation 2 Magazine USA, Dan Houser, director of the game described Maylay's voice as "powerful". The same article from the magazine also features an interview with Maylay himself, where he was asked how he came to be involved with the game.

"Actually, it was through DJ Pooh. He's been a producer forever...I was introduced, then the Rockstar family picked me up...I didn't know that Dan was listening, and I guess he was getting the idea about me being the voice right then."

-- Extract from interview with Young Maylay, Official Playstation 2 Magazine USA, Issue 86

We look forward to hearing more about Young Maylay, who's certainly looking like he's got a bright future ahead of him. A huge thanks to kilik for providing access to his magazine.

San Andreas - Names and Slogans Galore!

Just a small update this time. We've managed to find out a few minor tidbits that sprung from this weekend's site update over at the official San Andreas site.

Firstly, and probably most interestingly, is the Kincaid Bridge, shown above in a tiny screenshot, which is all Rockstar have revealed of it so far. The real version is a fantastic feat of engineering, named the Forth Rail Bridge, which spans the River Forth, between Edinburgh and Fife, in Scotland, close to Rockstar North's offices. Its purpose? Rail travel! Hop on one of San Fierro's dusty trains and take it right across into the unknown that is the North East of the San Andreas gameplay area, which includes Las Venturas and the wide open desert which we know nothing about).

Secondly, one of San Fierro's hippy district's posters shows the catchphrase Brown Streak Railroad will be using to get people on their trains and across the Kincaid Bridge. "Go For The Brown" is slipped out in one of the videos tucked in the official site. This screenshot shows the billboard well.

Finally, we've got a very revealing screenshot also from the Camper video on the official site. In San Andreas, Juank Air will be "Flying with the personal touch". (You thought the name was dirty!)

Jethro and Dwayne to Return for San Andreas

When Rockstar revealed yet more character artwork on Saturday with the launch of the San Fierro section on the site, it became clear that two of Vice City's lesser known characters are to return. Jethro (voiced by John Zurhellen) and Dwayne (Navid Khonsari), worked at Vice City's boatyard, and appear to play a similar role in San Andreas. The scale of their part remains unknown, but voice actors are likely to return.

OPM2 - San Andreas Preview

This month's issue of Official Playstation 2 Magazine from the Netherlands featured a nine page exclusive on San Andreas, with a whopping 26 screenshots, some of which are brand new. There's a number of small pieces of new information, mainly pertaining to the abilities CJ will have. We'll have screenshots online later today. Until then, check out the scans that our friends at GTAXclusive have posted on their site.

You can control trams by yourself.

You can adjust the camera in different directions for example to prevent a crash during a chase.

Tuning with your car will have no effect, only nitro will fasten up your car.

If you gain enough experience you can control a tow truck. With this you can lift up cars and move them.

While diving you can have a nice view on the fish. The time you can stay under water will be notified with a blue stamina meter.

Underwater you can only use a knife.

Rockstar isn't giving any information away about the animals, but in the water they saw some dolphins between the fishes.

Sometimes a plane just crashes out of nowhere, accidents happen.

You must earn some experience before you can play different types of games in Casino's.

At the end of the game you would have made a small army of gangs.

Official GTA: San Andreas Site Update!

You've been waiting for it for a while now, so the time has finally come for the official website to be updated! There's a number of new movies and screenshots, including the second official trailer featuring footage from all areas of the game. Unfortunately, people are bombarding it with traffic, so it's virtually inaccessible right now.

Help is at hand, however. We'll be taking every opportunity to visit the site and post what we can here. First up, we've got the second official trailer waiting for you. It's 8mb and requires Windows Media Player to view.

At least we can play at Casino's. Hopefully dogs will be in the game. It'll be nice to see plane crashes. As for the gang, I hope the gang we get is truly hardcore. Like the Haitans and the Cubans from GTA: Vice City. I don't want a gang that's similar to the Vercetti Gang(they are SO lame)

• When in gang wars, you will be able to give the gang members that respect you tactical advice (such as in a war simulation game).
• Playing basketball will be a side-game such as ambulance missions or gambling in casinos.
• As in the previous GTAs, the standard police force (LSPD) will give up after 4 wanted stars, leaving you to defend yourself from tougher forces at 5 & 6 stars.
• Shop owners will draw weapons and defend themselves if they feel threatened.

I assume there you mean SAPD now, right? The basket ball and tactics sound interesting. I'm glad they delayed the game because they say they needed to fix something last minute. I won't be getting it when it comes out, because I can't get it until xmas and it'll be sold out in most shops.

About the gang wars, interesting new feature. I knew about basketball already. That's going to be very fun. I heard from the GTA:SA message board on Gamefaqs(foolish board that is) that you could get 7 star. Well the owners of ammunition shops defended themselves in Vice City

Just go through reading the San Fierro article. That city's going to be sweet. I can't wait to try out the dojo and attempt the stealth kills on a ship. This game is going to be one of the coolest games of this year. I've already set my plans to buy it. I'm buying the game at my local Walmart the EXACT day the game is released. From what I've seen, mostly young kids are around my local Walmart, so I should be guaranteed a GTA:SA game without the store selling out. The lowest score this game should ever receieve is an 8/10(maybe 9/10) I can't believe 4 months ago, I was so obsessed with Resident Evil 4, that I forgot about this game. I'll pity those who can't get this game before it sells out

Cool, 1000+ page views. Cool. I can know say that I made a pretty darn great topic. Anyways, Here is the New Information.

-San Fierro is the 'stunting' capital of San Andreas, with more unique jump locations here than in any other city.
-San Fierro still bears the scars of the 1989 earthquake that hit its real life counterpart, San Francisco.
-Cobra Martial Arts, San Fierro's Dojo-style gym is well equipped, featuring a weight set, treadmill and experienced Sensei to whip you into shape.
-The Sensei's particular strength is kicking, where he will take you through each move you wish to learn in detail, showing button combinations on screen.
-At the game's car customisation shops, there are differing levels of nitro available, with the more expensive giving a longer, faster boost. Nitro also gives the car the ability to destroy some objects, as if it were 'invincible' to them. Once the cylinder is empty, it takes around one minute to recharge.
-Detailed audio is included in specific areas to create atmosphere, such as the tinny echo heard when below deck on the freight tanker moored off the coast of San Fierro.
-Go-karts will be included, with a likely go-kart track unconfirmed at this time.
-Some safehouses in San Andreas will be free for Carl to use, while some will only be available after purchasing property. The first he'll have available is his mother's old home, which like all others, includes a wardrobe full of all the clothes he's bought and a save game icon, this time shaped like a 3.5" Floppy Disk. (Rather than Vice City's Audio Cassette).
-Pressing L1 while holding a weapon will display a white meter detailing how proficient CJ is with that particular firearm. Levels include 'Poor', 'Gangster' and 'Hitman'.
The fastest way to increase Carl's ability with a weapon is to visit Ammunation, where a firing range mini-game sees him pitted against two rivals. Basically, the shooter with the most number of hits in the least amount of time is the victor.
-Cars can be modified to feature hard, soft or open topped roofs, with even the stereo's bass level open for customisation.

Both previews were littered with descriptions of missions which have already featured in print magazines, however, towards the end of Gamespot's preview were two exclusive revelations, The Driving School and Jackable Trains, which both sound like they fit well with the rest of the game.

-The driving school is vital to providing CJ with the skills he needs to perform advanced maneuvers in vehicles, like sharp turns at high speeds and emergency stops.
-Four wheeled vehicles can now also be controlled in mid air, similar, but in a much slower fashion than Vice City's motorbikes.
-A boating school will challenge players to drive vehicles around water courses, avoiding collision with as many buoys as possible. Eventually, CJ will be able to control boats in a much easier manner than seen in past GTA titles.
-Boarding a train at one of San Andreas' railway stations will provide a cinematic window view of the journey, such as the vast rural expanses.
-Hijacking a train is easy aswell, just approaching the cabin and removing the driver will do the trick.
-Trains are heavy vehicles, and as such, take a long time to gain maximum momentum, and to stop. Missions involve driving the trains (which have no steering controls) great distances and bringing them to a halt in extremely specific places.

if you check out IGN and Gamespot's websites you can read full new articals (if you havent already) and brand new screenshots.

Dark Malik
10-10-2004, 09:27 AM
Go-karts will be interesting. They should be slower than cars/trucks/bikes. The Ammunation mini-game seems fun. I'll be doing those games quite often. I wonder if it costs money to board a train and if it does, what will the price be? I knew there'd be a driving school, but a boating school is definitely an improvement. I'm sure anybody who's played GTA 3 and GTA: Vice City should know how hellish it is trying to use a boat. I read about the car modification on the GTA:SA message board of Gamefaqs. It'll be sad to spend so much money modifying a car, and then one day the car flips over and explodes.

Edit: GTA fans will love this! A new update!

The latest playPlaystation magazine (December issue) is starting to appear on magazine racks in Germany, and along with the huge double-page advertisements there is also a preview with three new pieces of information:

* When CJ has enough respect, he can go to his turf in Los Santos, recruit up to 8 'homies' to take with him for a gang war. Once they follow him, they shoot at anyone who is harming CJ.
* In stores such as Binco and SubUrban you can also buy watches, hats, necklaces and chains.
* Remote controlled vehicles will be making a return. (Already known by some degree, including remote controlled bomb airplanes.)

Furthermore, an eight CD box set will be released on the same day, with each album mirroring the tracklisting for a radio station in San Andreas. (Although how they manage to turn 10 radio stations into 8 albums has totally baffled us).

It was also revealed that the final game will feature 150 licensed tracks. Look for an update to the official GTA: San Andreas website later today.

The soundtrack isn't too bad. There's no way they couldn't have included a 2-pac song. I also want to hear Slick Rick, Rick James, Compton's Most Wanted, Public Enemy, and Rakim. I'm surprised there isn't an Ice Cube song(It Was A Good Day) but oh well. Cypress Hill, I must hear and also James Brown. I don't know who those other people are, but the soundtrack is still good

Official Fansite Q&A

1. "What are some major improvements in the pedestrian/police AI?" - Casey "Zidane" Mongillo / www.gtagaming.com
R*: Yes. Enemies in general will now do a much better job of taking cover and attempting to flank CJ. Pedestrians are now frightened of things they should be frightened of (like when a large military vehicle appears in a residential area), they hold hands, they have their own daily lives and destinations.

2. "Have the helicopter and plane height limits been increased?" - Gta-Expert / www.gtagaming.com
R*: Massively increased. Mount Chiliad is over half a mile tall, and you can fly well above its height.

3. What methods of air transportation can we expect? – JulioCaesar / PlanetGrandTheftAuto
R*: All kinds, most things you see in the air in the real world you'll see in San Andreas.

4. In several screenshots and the first trailer for San Andreas, Carl was playing basketball and pool. Are these cut scenes or can you play them and also what other mini-games are there? - Gangstaman590 / PlanetGrandTheftAuto
R*: The one of Smoke and Sweet playing basketball was a cutscene. The pool shot is CJ actually playing pool. There are too many mini-games to list here, rest assured there will be tons of fun stuff to do!

5. Will police chase other criminals besides Carl Johnson? For example, will you see a car chase go by with police going after someone? Or if not that, if someone shoots at Carl and a cop sees it, will the cop chase after him or you? - Arjuna Bosch / PlanetGrandTheftAuto
R*: Yes to both questions. San Andreas is a dangerous place, and you're not the only criminal about!

6. "In Vice City, driving a car up onto the packer and then driving the packer results in the car sliding off. Have the physics been changed so that trucks and trailers can carry cars properly? - (GTA3Freak-2001) / GTA Network / GTAScraper
R*: We have a surprise in store for you on this one.

7. Will the gameplay of Las Venturas include gambling, if so, what options are open to us? - (zeppelincheetah) / GTA Network / GTAScraper
R*: Yes on gambling (a number of the mini-games we mentioned). Details on this will be released soon, but I can reveal that there will be a number of gambling types you can choose from.

8. Will we be able to find any sub-plots in the deserts/woods or just random rampages? - (smithstock) / GTA Network / GTAScraper
R*: There are always subplots in GTA games! There will be missions in the countryside and desert along those lines.

9. What will be blocking us from entering the other cities/locations? - (Dead at 4 PM) / GTA Network / GTAScraper
R*: There is some story wrapped up in this, but to answer your question, a 4 star wanted level any time you leave the areas you've opened. And this particular wanted level you cannot shed with things like Pay & Spray or Police Bribes. This means that you can explore areas of the state you haven't opened, but only with a small army of police officers hunting you down!

10. How do you choose actors to voice the characters? Is it a long process, or do you just pick people with well-known names? - SwissMiss33 / GTA Warehouse
R*: It's a long process, we choose actors who will give us the performance we're looking for. Since we don't promote our games based off the voice actors in it, the name recognition isn't important to us.

11. What role have trolleys (trams)? Can we use others public service vehicles like airplanes and boats? - (lefantome) / GTAnetwork.it
R*: They function as public transport, which CJ can use. The train is the other public service you can ride around the state.

12. Will there be animals in San Andreas like dogs, pigs and cows? What kind of interaction we have with them and can they react if scared? - (Thomasbz & El Presy & God_of_GTA) / GTAnetwork.it
R*: No, another funny rumor, that one started by an audio clip on the website that mentioned a K-9 unit. We don't particularly like the idea of children or small fuzzy animals in our games.

13. Can we buy vehicles too or we have just to steal them? - (MxM) / GTAnetwork.it
R*: You can buy vehicles, but not every one in the game. There will be a couple dealers who will sell some of the higher-end vehicles to you, but only after you've done a bit of work for them.

14. We must spend with a game about 150 hours to complete San Andreas. Is this number of hours to complete main story or 100% of the game? - (Mastah) / GTA.pl
R*: That number is really general. We don't like giving a number like that out, because invariably questions like these come up, but people insist on putting a number on the games. Obviously there are very different ways of playing Grand Theft Auto. Some players just like to "play-through", finishing the main storyline or getting to 100% as fast as they can. Other people go at the main storyline at a more leisurely pace. And some people never even really play the story at all, they might just download cheats and sandbox around the map. Our guess of 150 hours is the amount of time we think it would take someone to hit 100% who wasn't rushing through the game as quickly as possible with a strategy guide.

15. In which way we will choose the second gun? From a menu; using other keys, etc.? - (Mastah) / GTA.pl
R*: If you're referring to holding dual-weapons, the second weapon is always the same as the primary so there is no selection process. Once your skill level with a weapon is high enough, holding 2 becomes possible, and they're linked by a single firing button (though you must find a second gun!). If your question is more general, then hopefully this answers it: gun selection works exactly like it did in Vice. You can carry one weapon of each type at a time. If you want to replace your current weapon with another of the same type, hold down L1 while standing over it. Your old weapon will be permanently discarded. Cycle though your available weapons with L2 and R2. Circle to fire!

16. When R* make their vector images of GTA characters and stuff, do they start with an actual screenshot or photo or just start drawing it from scratch? - Tibor
Vehicles are often created from renders or screenshots, and characters are most often done off of photographs or concept sketches. You'll be interested to note though, Tibor, that the images are drawn by hand with pencil and ink. They're then scanned and colored in Adobe Photoshop. Once finished, the images are hand-traced in Adobe Illustrator, a labor-intensive process, but the results are worth it!

17. Is it easy to get rich or will have to battle your way through the game? - (Christoph Decker) / gtareactor.de
R*: If you focus on earning money, you will find ways to add to your roll even early on. As usual with Grand Theft Auto, how you spend your time is up to you!

18. When did you start working on SA? Did you work on it simultaneously with Vice City? - Alexander Grenberg / GTAsajten
R*: We started work right as Vice City was finishing up.

19. There were 97 vehicles in GTA Vice City, how many are there going to be in GTA San Andreas? - (Martin Glomb) / www.gta-action.com
R*: San Andreas will have over double the number of vehicles in Vice City.

Well, it's only a few more days left until this game is released! Rockstar has definitely put great effort into SA. Number 6 is such a teaser! Kinda just makes ya' anticipate what the next GTA will be like. I predict this game to be "Game of the Year".

Shovel

Although the actual use for the shovel was not confirmed, what good would it serve if you couldn't beat people to death with it? Digging? HAH!

Katana

You'll be able to slice and dice all of your enemies with this awesome, ninja-like sword returning from Vice City.

Fire Extinguisher

It's true that a fire extinguisher can be used for some good, but Carl is no Smokey the Bear. A heavy and large piece of metal, the fire extinguisher will probably serve the same purpose in San Andreas as the shovel - beating!

Chainsaw

The almighty chainsaw of Vice City has returned! As you mya recall, blood squirted on the screen from victims' bodies when using the chainsaw. San Andreas will hopefully bring much more realistic animations, reactions, and blood squirting for this heavy duty weapon.

Silenced Pistol

Great for stealthy robberies, the silenced pistol (or colt .45) will play a key role in San Andreas. Silenced pistols will help the player to sneak through houses, undetected, during robberies.

Uzi

The Uzi, popular among the gangsters, will probably be one of the most common guns in San Andreas. Maybe even dual capability!

Tec-9

A longtime favorite of gang members on the streets of Los Santos, the Tec-9 is a relatively cheap firearm made with low-grade stamped metal. One of the more interesting new features is that the player can dual wield Tec-9s, evening up long odds in the middle of a gang fight, increasing your respect and power in the ‘hood. Once you’ve upgraded CJ’s weapon skill to the point where he can hold two weapons (Hitman skill level), all you need to do is find another weapon and he will automatically hold 2. All ammo between the guns is now shared, and reloading happens automatically. Rate of fire is effectively doubled, perfect for cases where you really want to kill someone—fast.

Dark Shotgun

Pump shotguns also seem like they will play a big role in San Andreas. They are effective and they conserve ammo.

Chrome Shotgun

Although the chrome shotgun probably won't have a very noticeable increased performance compared to the darker colored shotgun, but it's always nice to be carrying around chrome now, isn't it?

AK-47

Although this weapon is popular among terrorist groups, the AK-47 will be of great use in San Andreas. The AK-47 will be perfect for automatic firing and accurate aiming.

M-4

M4-is the modified version of the M-16, the shortened stock and barrel makes it more compact while still retaining the accuracy and power of its cousin. The weapon will allow the player the pinpoint accuracy to target an opponents specific body parts or vehicle tires. One particularly satisfying feature is the ability to target gas tanks. A single well-placed round will cause any car in San Andreas to explode—aim for the gas cap to find out how decidedly badass this new feature is in action. Kneeling greatly increases the accuracy of the M4, try kneeling as often as possible when using the weapon. Even while kneeling, it is possible to roll side to side while holding R1 by pressing left or right on the left analog.

Rocket Launcher

The rocket launcher is the weapon of all weapons. There's almost nothing it can't do! This extremely heavy duty weapon will be great for taking out pedestrians, cars, and even helicopters. But, it definitely will cost you a pretty penny.

Desert Eagle

This handgun delivers an unparalleled degree of accuracy and power with a distinctive feel that players will pick up on immediately. Originally intended to be target/sport pistol, players will use this weapon for the immense stopping power the handgun’s .50 caliber rounds deliver to a target—stopping assailants in their tracks, usually with one well placed shot. Because of its significant recoil, it’s almost impossible to hold onto at first. Look for higher levels of skill with the weapon to reduce this effect and yield quicker reloads and accuracy. The Desert Eagle is even deadly when out of auto-lock range, as a proficient shooter can fire in free target mode and still achieve one shot kills. Hold R1 and line up the sights on a target. The benefit of this approach is it allows sniper results with the free movement offered by a handgun.

Heat Seeking RPG

RPGs and other shoulder-fired missiles have long had a place in Grand Theft Auto. The STINGER is the next level. Lightweight and portable, this shoulder-fired guided missile system is designed to shoot down low-altitude jets, propeller-driven aircraft and helicopters. The fire-and-forget system allows the player to lock onto a heat source, usually a car or plane, fire the weapon, and begin acquiring new targets before the warhead has even destroyed the first target. To activate, bring up the targeting reticle by pressing R1. Continue holding down R1 and center the viewfinder on the target. The reticle will acquire the nearest target, and then change from green to yellow and finally to red, indicating that you have achieved target lock. You can fire the weapon at any stage of the lock-on process, but the closer to red, the more effective your strike will be. The production, research, and development of the Stinger Missile System is a secret, but intrepid pilots flying over the deserts on the outskirts of Las Venturas have a ton of stories about near misses with the Stinger.

Vulcan Mini Gun

This formidable weapon is the player’s best friend. Designed to deliver massive and withering barrages of ammunition at an alarming rate of fire, this weapon is designed for total destruction of the target and anything around it. Despite its massive size and weight, the gun is portable enough to be carried—and fired—on the streets of San Andreas. Police responding to an incident where a mini-gun is in use would be quick to call in SWAT to deal with the menace. An intricate piece of machinery, its belt driven mechanics will turn the barrels even if the gun is not firing, a sound that eerily forecasts the destruction that is about to be unleashed. Hold R1 to spin up the barrel and squeeze L1 to fire.

I heard Samuel Jackson was going to be voicing a character, but I thought it was a mere rumor. Glad to see it's true. Nice that Ice T will be voicing somebody too. Well I knew Ken would be back from Vice City, but I wonder if he'll serve the same purpose to C.J. as he did to Tommy. Too bad Vercetti isn't going to in the game. When I first heard about San Andreas, I kept hearing the same story that Tommy, along with his lame Vercetti gang, were residing in a hotel. I can see it was a lie.

Once this game comes out and I play it, I'm definitely going to post my review/scores on this thread

Edit: About the weapons, I hope we can use katanas when we train at the dojo. I love silenced pistols. Very useful when being stealthy(people who play MGS can relate too) I CAN'T wait to buy a Desert Eagle. Those guns are powerful! And I'll still wreak havoc with the Chainsaw/Rocket Launcher. The Heat seekers will definitely be fun(Stingers!) I hope tear gas will be in San Andreas

I wish I could take a school day off. I'll have to wait until I get out of school, then play the game throughout the rest of the day. Hopefully there aren't still major glitches in the game. Especially after Rockstar delayed the game to do one more check for bugs/glitches that might've still been in the game. I can already predict that I'll rate this game a 9/10. It will be released on 10/26/04.

I plan on getting the game for my birthday or Christmas. The bad news is that I might not get my hands on it since it will be all picked over by tomorrow. It's always been like that for GTA games especially GTA3 and Vice City.

They have a double pack feature where you can get GTA3 and Vice City packaged in one PS2 box. Last time I checked, they had them up for sale at Wal-Mart. They were also doing pre-orders San Andreas as well, won't do any good tomorrow.

I heard a rumor that 50 Cent was going to do the voice over for Carl Johnson but when I found out it wasn't him, I was a bit disappointed. :(

I was hoping Tommy Vercetti would make an appearance in San Andreas but alas, he's not...

It's nice to hear that Samuel L. Jackson and Vanilla Ice's voices will be heard though. :D

Ign called San Andreas "the BEST PS2 game ever".

Anyway, some stores did release the games early and I've already heard rumors of glitches. The hottest one (a guy I talked to had this happen and so have a few others) is where you get up to a certain level in the game and it won't go past the loading screen. Hopefully these are just isolated and correctable cases. Otherwise Rockstar could lose a "few" dollars.

Well the time is FINALLY here.

9.6 "Superb" Rating from Gamespot. Gamespot Review (http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/action/gta4/review.html?q=1&tag=gs_hp_flashtop_story)

9.9 "Best PS2 Title EVER" Rating from Gamespot. IGN Review (http://www.gamerankings.com/itemrankings/launchreview.asp?reviewid=439487)

It sounds absolutely amazing. That opening paragraph from IGN's review just blew me away.

I'm not going to beat around the bush. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is the single best PlayStation 2 title I have ever played. It's larger than the biggest RPG, has more story than the heftiest adventure game, and has almost as many mini-games as Nintendo's Mario Party. Additionally, it has a production value that's second to none, boasts a faithfulness to '90s source material with an eerie accuracy, and provides more hours of entertainment than all the previous Grand Theft Autos combined. In short, it's a terrific unending masterpiece of a game -- and one that will never fall victim to an over-exaggeration of its lofty status. It's the defining piece of software for Sony's successful sophomore system, and it's almost impossible to imagine a PlayStation 2 library without it.

I can't pick it up until this weekend because of exams, but I plan on sacrificing my weekend to play it like crazy.

It's only a couple of more hours until I finally get this game(I have to wait until my dad gets out of work and stops by Walmart to pick the game up. Damn, it sucks being 16) My Walmart isn't even close to selling out GTA:SA yet. BIG relief for me.

XBattosaiX17: 3 week!? Damn, that's tough. At least a lesson came out of it all

Okay, now for what I've done so far. Okay, C.J.'s returned back to Los Santos. While he's driving in his car, some cops pull him over and throw him in their car. The cops are driving C.J. through some neighborhood, and they pretty much frame him for murdering a cop(but C.J. didn't do it) They drop him off in Ballas territory. There's also a bike near by The first thing I did was find some gang members, and almost got gunned down(those gang members aren like GTA3. They aren't just carrying weak pistols! Some carry Uzis)

Now about the beginning. Your main objective is to make your way to C.J.'s house. Once you get there, a cutscene occurs. C.J. is walking through the house and he's "hearing voices in his head". A man named Big Smoke suddenly appears and is about to beat the crap outta C.J.(He thinks C.J. is an intruder) C.J. reminds Big Smoke who he is. Now *skipping some points* You two go to a cemetery. You see a scene between "Sweet" and his girl. After they're done bickering, Sweet tells C.J. about what's been going on since he's been gone. You, along with Sweet, Ryder, and Big Smoke, are about to leave the cemetery when suddenly, some Ballas pull a drive-by. This is the first mission. You get on a bike and follow Sweet while avoiding getting gunned down by the Ballas. After awhile, Sweet leaves, and you have to follow Ryder to safety. Voila! First mission done! It's quite difficult, since controlling the bike isn't easy. In the second mission, you must get a haircut at Reece's barbershop. Ryder is also with you. After you choose a haircut, you must then go to get something to eat at Cluckin' Bell. Once you select a type of food, another cutscene occurs. Ryder attempts to rob Cluckin' Bell, but the guy he's trying to rob isn't a sissy. The guy pulls out a shotgun and shoots at Ryder. You guys run out the store, get back in the car, and drive home.

Well that's the first two missions. I won't spoil the rest for anybody

Ryder attempts to rob Cluckin' Bell, but the guy he's trying to rob isn't a sissy. The guy pulls out a shotgun and shoots at Ryder. You guys run out the store, get back in the car, and drive home.

Well that's the first two missions. I won't spoil the rest for anybody

when I started vice city ,it was my first time playing a gta games,
the first thing I did was killing people! IN THE GAME!

Are you doing the same thing?

"the first thing I did was killing people! IN THE GAME!

I think that's what most people do...in the game. It's really fun...and funny, and an essential part of the game.

The first thing I did when I played GTA:Vice City(first GTA game I ever played) was drive around. Then I started killing people

Yes, riding that BMX bike is difficult, especially when trying to escape those Ballas. My C.J. has the Grove gang colors. He also has cornrows, but since my C.J. is also wearing a bandanna, it's hard to notice. My respect level got upgraded and it said I could recruit gang members. Now if only I knew how to do that. I also like modding my cars. I also did a mission with Ryder, so now I can enter Burglary mode at night

Why is it a bmx bike so hard to drive?

& What a respect level?

Dark Malik
10-27-2004, 02:12 PM
For one thing, you have to control is using the left analog. I'm more accustomed to using the D-pad. Also, you have to keep tapping the X button very fast so C.J. will peddle faster(you're going to have to do that to escape the Ballas trying to kill you) Sometimes, I've trying tapping the X button very fast, yet it takes awhile before C.J. begins peddling faster.

Respect level is the a factor that determines how much the Grove gang members like you(I think this respect level applies to other gangs too, but I haven't witnessed that so far) Once your respect level is high enough, you can begin recruiting a certain amount of gang members. As of now, I can recruit 7 gang members. Now if only I knew how to recruit people

Well I bought the game a couple days ago, but in the end, I ended up taking it back. I guess I lost my interest in the GTA series or something. Well I thought I'd post something up to contribute to this thread, but if it's already posted up, I'm sorry.

Here's a little tip my friend told me. Anyone remember those codes from Vice City? They work (no joke). My friend didn't specify which codes did/didn't work, but I'll post one up that I know does work 100%.

R2, R2, R1, R2, L1, R2, left, down, right, up, left, down, right, up. That's the only one I remembered from Vice City. That code is for the weapon cheat. Enjoy.

Finally I know! Thank you so much crazynig!

Well Gamefaqs has codes, including that spawning cars code and the full health/armor code. Plus the Weapons 1, 2, and 3 codes. They have other codes, but those are the only codes I think are truly important at the moment

Why bother using the codes? If its anything like Vice City was, using the codes can prevent you from achieving 100%.

Codes are just fun to use after completing the game(which will take a ridiculous amount of time). For me, codes and mods(for the pc version) add lots of replay value.

I read somewhere that using cheats in SA would stop the player from reaching 100%. I only use codes for fun or if I necessarily must cheat(which only happened once. Vice City- the mission where you have to rescue Lance. I had to use codes to get past that part)

I attempted that mission for hours before I finally decided I needed to use cheats. So far, it doesn't seem low quality to me. Sure, the graphics are reminiscent of GTA:VC's graphics, but I wasn't really expecting any improvements in the graphics. I haven't bumped into any glitches either(though I can't doubt that there will be any glitches in the game)

I just wanted to say one more thing about Vice city. On the mission where you rescue Lance, I found it much easier to park a helicopter in the entrance. Kill all the mofo's around the area, and then when you finally have Lance, go back in the helicopter before all the others cars charge at you. Then its smooth sailing back to the hospital.

And I need to quit reading this thread cause I just feel worse and worse everytime on read something cool about San Andreas. I want to ride the bike!!!! And you can recruit gang members. Thats so cool.

Dark Malik
10-28-2004, 02:23 PM
At the time, I didn't know what Hidden Packages were or where to find them(Vice City was my first GTA game, so I didn't know much about anything. By the time I learned about Hidden Packages, I had already completed the storyline)

That glitch always happens to me, especially in Vice City. My ps2 is old too, so that could be the problem

Edit: I wish I had known to try that. I tried to many different methods at rescueing lance. I tried entering that junkyard through the other entrance(there is another way to get into the junkyard. There's less of Diaz's gang at that entrance. I parked a motorcycle around that entrance so I could make my escape) I rescued Lance, but then, escaping that junkyard was a problem. I could swear I had a cleat get-away, but a gang member always popped up and killed Lance and I failed the mission

Well, you can still get SA. The game is very fun! Peddling fast on the bike is the only hard part about using the bike

Well that's one of the funnest aspects of the GTA games...the various ways to accomplish a mission. If you can't do it the most straightforward way, it actually helps(and is damn fun) to come up with your own way of winning it.

That's another thing I like about GTA. There's so many different methods you can use for completing a mission. I remember in VC, when you have to race Hilary using a Sentinel vs. his Sabre Turbo. Instead of completing the mission the "proper" way, I used a code to spawn a Hotring Racer+I used another code to increase car speed(just to ensure my victory. I had to cheat, there was no way I could outspeed Hilary's Sabre Turbo using that slow Sentinel. I know other people may have did it, but even when I used the code that increases car speed, I still lost) At least I didn't need to cheat to complete a car race in GTA: San Andreas

Hasn't happened to me.

I failed the mission the first time. But I passed it EASILY the second time. Crashing is what made the first race hard. I avoided crashing the second time. Trust me, once you're ahead of them by a good distance, then winning the race it quite simple. And yes, you can increase respect without doing mission. You can use a GS or an AR

crazynig: I'm still trying to do that mission. I hate it! It takes about 10 minutes just to get to the spot where the snitch is. @ Dark Malik Are we talking about the same misson? I'm talking about The Truth's mission where the cops come and you gotta burn his weed plantation.

@ Xssj2GohanX Driving from Los Santos through those god damn hillbilly roads takes at least 10 mins and that is if you know where you are going... If your like me and have no idea excpect a 20 min trip through all kinds of coutry rivers and mountainous(sp?) terrain...

Now I've finished that "burning weed" crap and have gotten past the part where C.J. first visits his crappy garage. I've also been ALL AROUND that area, buying whatever safe houses I could find. I bought Zero's property too. Now I'm doing yet another mission for those damn cops(it might just be me, but I'm getting really pissed off at doing missions for those damn cops. I've been saving up some money for games, and Because of some amazing reviews (e.g. 99% in OPS2M...) and other information I've seen I think I will get this game soon... I was going to wait until Xmas but I should have enough for the game before then but not straight away (if I do then I probably won't find it because it's bound to sell much more than vice city, which was out of stock in every high street game shop I went to. Did you know you can play pool in the game? In the review I read on Games Radar (taken from OPS2M) it said in bars you can play pool for money etc.

Also, you can now swim, but that's probably already known by most of you...

I didn't see anyone post this on the first page, and there are too many pages to go through now....

I think one of the things that ruined Vice City for me was I was using cheats regularly... I've heard what the armor cheat code does, which must make the game incredibly easy. When I get the game I'll probably play missions etc. trying not to use cheats... It's strange how GTA games are some of the few in which cheating is accepted by most people, but it takes skill to do well without cheating. To those of you who have the game, I have a question: When the game is started up, does it have a main menu (like GTA 1-3) or does it just load the game straight away (like VC)?

Dark Malik
10-31-2004, 07:52 AM
I tried playing pool in a bar located in San Fierro. After a while, I gave up

And the game is like VC. It loads immediately(I'm not sure if I understand what you mean)

Edit: Well, before the game begins loading, it does go to a screen that has GTA:San Andreas on it(if that's what you meant)

I've basically done every mission in San Fierro at the moment. Right now, I have to do missions for Zero. HOPEFULLY, this is the last mission I have to perform for him. Apparently there are legends and myths in this game that are hard to find. For example, there have been claims of people seeing Bigfoot at Mount. Chilliad, and there are pictures of a guy that saw a sea serpent(loch ness monster) in the ocean. Haha, this is so cool. ^^

I've read about this stuff on Gamefaqs. Apparently, there's a ghost car at the top of Mt.Chiliad. There's also supposed to be a UFO. There's stories about people committing suicide in the game. There's a World War 2 Plane. There's a falling plane. There's also falling trees. Some people have claimed to have seen C.J.'s mom's ghost. There have been sightings of Nessie

crazynig: That mission was easy. I finished that in no time. I'm referring to the "Supply Lines" mission where you have to use the RC Plane to shoot down 4 delivery boys. The controls are horrible, which makes the mission hard. Plus, once you shoot down all of the deliver boys, you have to get the stupid plane back to it's original position(the roof where you initally started from) Lucky me, I managed to get it back just in the nick of time, otherwise I would've been very pissed. I deem Zero the WORST San Andreas character of all. Sometimes, I really just hate how C.J. would do anything for anybody. But I have to admit... it's funny hearing Zero cry whenever you fail at that "Supply Lines" mission! Oh and finally finished those pointless plane lessons(the more plane lessons you do, the more annoying it gets) Now, I can finally progress the story and even access the last major city. There's no reg. houses, but there are a bunch of hotel suits there. Woozie owns a casino there. Woozie says he'll allow C.J. to buy some stock. I also tried gambling, but I was given the message that I didn't have enough gambling experience! I can't wait until I begin gambling. Las Venturra(Los Vegas) is definitely my favorite major city of San Andreas

Yes I know I realized that after I posted that I got the two confused. And I still didnt beat supply lines. That damn motorcycle keeps shooting me down and if I do get him I cant control the plane to go back... As far as I'm concerned The mission is UNWINABLE...

Dark Malik
11-03-2004, 04:19 AM
I thought it was impossible too. I tried looking at sites to see if there were any strategies to beating the mission. I even went as far as to using the "Destroy Cars" cheat. Unfortunately, once I used it, my RC PLANE was destroyed too. Funny, since I didn't think that RC PLANE would be considered a car. I remembered one time I destroyed 3 of the delivery boys. I was trying to control the lousy plane so I could destroy the final delivery boy. I had plenty of fuel left. As I'm VERY close to the last delivery boy, my plane crashes into a building and lands on the ground. The plane is horrible to control in the air... it's damn near impossible to control on the ground. I tried to get back into the air, but the controls are just insane. Finally, I managed to get my plane into the air.. and my fuel ran out. I threw a mad fit and stopped playing for awhile. As of so far, that is THE worst mission of all. I'll NEVER understand why C.J. is wasting time doing missions for Zero. I've also come to the conclusion that Zero is insane, as is C.J. Btw, the flying lessons is the second worst mission.

The Zero missions are optional anyways. They aren't needed to get to the Las Venturas. Go to Las Venturas, get your flying Liscence, and that mission will be easier. It was for me anyways.

I can't even play the game. The stupid disc read error stuff happens. I've sent it in to Sony 4 times. Each time they said It would never happen again. So this is my fifth time sending it in. They said they will get me a brand new console for all of my troubles.

blackluster: It seems like money is hard to get in San Andreas. Random pedestrians are apparantly broke, and it's uncommon:rare that a gang member has money. Definitely different from VC It seems mission are the best way to get money. Btw, an AR is an Action Replay. An Action Replay is just a cheating device, just like the Gameshark

I was laughing at him. I'm surprised C.J. didn't just laugh at him, then quietly leave the store, as if he never saw Zero hanging to begin with. That would've been so much better:D

ssj12: I used that Health cheat before(like the first day I got it, just so I could pass that first mission) It was just today that I noticed it included bonuses like $250,000. Btw, did you manage to get the game yet before the stores begin selling out.

Yea remember I preordered it. I just dont have much time to play it. Im still in Los Santos because of school, work, and chores. I use the cheat sometimes (bought every place you can in los santos but 3 and the businesses. I also have been at the gym training.

Oh, I have been to los venturas. Stole a train and went to check it out. When I passed the barricade though I got a 4 star wanted level.

I'm still waiting to able to buy businesses. So far, the only business I have is Zero's shop. I know Woozie will allow me to buy stocks to his Four Dragons Casino. I've been playing the game so long, yet I still haven't been on a train yet

If you want peds who have lots of money, go to Los Santos and kill drug dealers they seem to have loads of cash. oh and is there any specific car that would be good for beating the second ceasar race? The one where you meet Woozie?

(Yes i know im slow but oh well) :(

EDIT: Oh and Ceasars sister has got to be the second most annoying person so far in this game (OG LOC being the first)

Unfortunately, after you complete that VERY LONG race, you have yet another VERY LONG race. If you don't mind cheating, you can spawn a Hotring Racer. Definitely fast. Possibly the fastest car of GTA:VC and San Andreas. A Cheetah is another good choice, but don't expect to find those cars anywhere. They're very rare. The last option is the X car(I can't remember the full name. I know it begins with X and has different numbers in it) That's the car I used. I found the race VERY easy to win using that car. Its speed like a Cheetah. It even looks like a Cheetah. It's pretty rare, but there is a possibility that you will find one. I managed to find one. The only way you could possibly lose using that car, is if you car flipped over and blew up. Otherwise, it's damn near impossible to lose a race using that car. The race ends on top of a hill(the race takes about 10 minutes too) After that, the second race begins and you must race back to the starting position of the first race(in other words, where the first race began is where the second race ends. Vice Versa)

There is another way and it's extremely easy, yet requires a cheat. Once you begin the race, leave your car, walk far away from it, then use the Destroy Cars cheat. Unless destroying the other cars causes you to fail the mission, you'll destroy every car, and you can simply finish the race without worrying about competition. You'll also need to find another car to drive, of course

Edit: I find OG Loc funny, but yeah, Catalina is definitely annoying(She's Ceasar's cousin, btw) She's loud and obnoxious(a dangerious combination) I also find Denise annoying, since you did a hella hard mission to rescue her from a burning building, yet the only way she repays you is by demanding you take her someplace to eat(she becomes your girlfriend and that's all you do on your dates with her... take her someplace to eat. Time to time, she'll do a drive-by on Ballas, which is pretty funny. Other than that, it's pretty pointless)

If you think OG Loc is annoying, just wait until you meet Zero. Then buy his property and attempt his "Supply Lines" mission. You'll be wishing you could kill him in the most painful way ever

I also like OG Loc even though at times he is a little annoying. Well, Yes I finally got the game and I'm up to the doing missions for Officer Tenpenny and OG Loc back at his house. I was playing yesterday doing th house party mission, but after killing a bunch of ballers, something like "Plug in your controller to your console", when it was already connected. I hope this isn't some type of defect, but I will try it again today later.

And if you want to find a fast car which is common, I like the lowriders. They are pretty fast and have decent control.

Dark Malik

I haven't experience that in San Andreas yet, but that happened to me MANY times in Vice City. All I had to do was unplug my controller, then plug it back in.

I love this game don't get me wrong, but flying has to be the worst thing to do in it. Pilot school is damn near impossible I cant beat the stupid mission where you gotta destroy stuff. I wound up shooting the ground with a rocket and blowing the hell out of myself and now I have to start the whole school over... I am about to throw this game out the window because I hate flying so much!

I am about to throw this game out the window because I hate flying so much!

That's EXACTLY the way I felt. I was so mad, I just stopped playing the game for a day. WHY IS C.J. WASTING HIS TIME LEARNING HOW TO TAKE STUPID FLYING LESSONS? It's choices like that which make me hate C.J. Btw, that mission hella hard! Once you destroy the three trucks, you must then destroy two moving trucks. Which is not easy! I'd think the damn Rockets would be effective, but they're not. Really, I'm high in the air, shooting about 100 Rockets per 10 seconds, yet they're ALL missing the targets. If I try to fly low and shoot a rocket, I end up blowing myself up and failing. After you take out the five trucks, you have to perfectly land the helicopter and hope that you got a good score. Otherwise, you'll have to restart the whole damn lesson, just like I had to. Landing isn't even easy, because at this point, most likely you've lost control of the helicopter. The torture doesn't end there. You even have to have a good time. Which is extremely hard when the damn Rockets aren't hitting the targets. I wanted to break the controller so badly. Even wanted to break the game at times. After about 20 attempts, I managed to complete the mission in about 1:10. After this, you have MORE flying lessons. Yep, that's right. MORE flying lessons. You have another no-point-in-trying-to-control plane to fly. Then after that, you have to learn how to Parachute. It's only one lesson. Not too hard, but not a walk in the park either. Once you finish that lesson, you are officially done with pilot school!

Now you can simply wait awhile. C.J. will get a call from Woozie. Woozie tells you about his Four Dragons casino and invites you to come. It's in Las Venturras. You can now access the third major city. It's a far drive, but maybe you can find a Sparrow, like I did. You can opt to go there and do missions with Woozie, or you can continue working for that "one guy" who made you take those flying lessons. You'll have to do more flying using that no-point-in-trying-to-control plane. I tried that mission. It is just as annoying as Zero's "Supply Lines" mission. I just thought " F-word it" and I went to Las Venturras. I like that city more than the other cities

As much as I like GTA:SA, I can't lie. It has to be the most frustrating game I've ever played. VC didn't have this many annoying missions. Sometimes, I wonder if Rockstar purposely put all of these annoying plane missions in the game just to annoy the hell out of people

I just noticed this too, but before you attempted that lesson, you didn't save the game? I had to learn from that mistake too. Once, I got to the lesson where you have to use the impossible-to-control plane to fly around in a clockwise direction, then a counter-clockwise direction. After about 30 attempts, I managed to complete it. Then I attempt counter-clockwise. I'm ALMOST done, but then I lose control of the horrible plane and crash head-on into the water and blew up. I end up at a hospital that's hella far from the pilot. Plus, all of my weapons were gone. I just stopped playing and loaded the game from where I last saved. Which was at the beginning of the pilot school lessons-.-;;

OMG it seems the only things different between you and me is that you actually beat the missions so far. Once you complete the first circle of the runway the second one is a little easier because the banking doesnt make you lose total control, And the first heli mission with the heli I never liked (the Hunter) which is impossible to control, i could not beat the stupid first mission even though I went straight through the damn ring. Once I finally did that I blew the hell outta myself and now I gotta do it all again -_-

Dark Malik
11-05-2004, 10:42 AM
Strange, but yeah, it does seem like that. That mission gave me trouble too. Sometimes, I could swear I went through the rings. Yet the game doesn't acknowledge it. It's really annoying. Once you complete the heli lessons, you've got lessons on another plane. There's only two rings you must fly through, but the lesson is difficult. That's because after you go through the first ring, you must perform a PERFECT loop. Also, you have to perform the loop at the right moment, or else you fail the mission. If you manage to perform the loop, you must then gain control of the plane in time to fly through the second ring. That lesson is extremely pointless. Then again, so are all of the other lessons

Once you finish pilot school, the game becomes "fun" again. Just as long as you avoid continuing to do missions for Mike Toreno(I just remembered his name. He's the lousy guy who made you go through pilot school. Once you finish pilot school, another spot to do missions for him will unlock. It's just a few feet away from pilot school. Though, I doubt anybody would bother to do missions for him)

crazynig1086

lol! Have you finished Zero's "Supply Lines" mission yet? I did every possible mission before I went to pilot school. There are many mysteries to GTA:San Andreas. Its not possible even with flying lessons completed it is impossible. The mission was not meant to be beaten and Torenos missions are right up there to.

I hope we don't have to do Toreno's missions. Right now, I'm doing missions for Woozie. I just completed the plan for a casino heist, and WOULD YOU BELIEVE IT? The next damn mission is one in which you have to fly a crappy plane! I think I'm about to give up trying. I'm trapped in the game with only flying missions to do! It's insane! These types of missions are sick and evil. Rockstar should be ashamed of themselves

Damn, I'm stuck on the race with Catalina. My car keeps getting flipped. Any advice?

Dark Malik
11-07-2004, 06:13 PM
What car are you using for the races? You need a naturally fast car, so you won't have to worry too much about speed and flipping over. If you don't mind cheating, then:

Spawn a Hotring Racer:
R2, L1, Circle, Right, Up, Circle, R2

That's a fast car. Just do it before you begin a race, of course. For more assurance that you'll win the race:

Faster Cars:
Right, R1, Up, L2, L2, Left, R1, L1, R1, R1

That will increase your car's speed. It doesn't affect opponent car speed

It's rare to find, but a ZR-350 is a fast car. I used it in my race, and I won easily. Somebody else once said that the Lowrider is a good car

If all fails, then:

Destroy Cars:
R2, L2, R1, L1, L2, R2, Square, Triangle, Circle, Triangle, L2, L1

Unless the blowing up the opponent cars causes the you to fail the mission, then this code definitely guarantees victory. Since the competition is dead:D Just remember, all cars blow up. So don't be near a car once you use that cheat

Hope that all helped

XBattosaiX17

In the race, I am given a car, I think its and infernus or something like that. Its when I finally break up with Catalina and she challenges me to a race. And if you can give advice, please give non cheating advice, cause I used cheats in the previous Grand Theft Auto's and it spoiled the whole game really.

did you do the caligulas missons yet or the next tenpenny mission?
And to beat that mission with the race just try to get ahead of them and then take it carefully.

Dark Malik
11-08-2004, 04:09 AM
x: I already told you to use a ZR-350. It's a rare car, it's extremely fast. You don't have to use that Infernus. Just get a car, then drive to the red zone. Though, the Infernus is moderately fast, if you don't want to look for a car. Just drive carefully, like crazynig told you to

crazynig: Yeah, I've already did that mission. There isn't any Tenpenny missions at the moment, and as far as I'm concerned, I'm not in a rush to do missions for him. I'm tired of working for crooked cops. So you've finally finished pilot school and have went to Woozie's Four Dragons casino in Las Venturras?

Yea I did. I was gunna do the heist missions but I think that involves blowing the hell out Caligulas (I'm guessing I told you I don't use the guide I wasted my money on) and I wanna be able to do the missions before its erased from the map. Also for me a tennpenny mission came up where I gotta go kill some guys and get some dossier. It also involves flying a heli... so I'm still on it... And do you know yet if you need to do Torenos missions cus they'repissing me off. for example I get to the drop off point on the first one perfectly somehow under the radar limit, I go to fly back and the very tip of my wing ( I mean like the last inch of it) hit a tree branch and my plane spun out of control and smashed into smithereens and I woke up in a hospital bed...
