It's either
A:Your AR is messed up.
B:The program didn't go through correctly.

Rule #1 of the AR forums: Don't troll about how bad using an AR is in the AR forums.
Rule #2 of the AR forums: Don't feed the trolls who are protesting the AR.

Make sure you installed the software correctly. I'm assuming you're using a Windows machine -- what version of Windows are you using? I've installed AR software on a machine running Windows 2000 (old AR MAX for GBA) and XP (currently running both AR MAX and AR DS).
Thanks to the security features in Windows since 2000, you need to have administrator privileges to install software on your computer. If you don't have that, you can't install the software. Also, you may need to reboot after the software installs so you can update the registry and the software can access key DLL's for running properly.
Finally, and this is the most important piece of advice -- you have to be connected to the internet. If you're not, it won't matter if the software's installed correctly.
BEst first call -- reboot your machine. When it comes back up, make sure you have internet access, and then hook up your DS with AR to the computer using the USB cable. Open the software app and then turn on your DS. You should get something in all three windows. Click on the update icons on the upper right corner of the window to update your local code list and your DS firmware.
You could call tech support, but you're likely to have better luck troubleshooting on your own. If your AR came with a book, check the last chapter, on troubleshooting, to see if there's some ideas for fixes there, too.
