View Full Version : The 13th Card Professor Identified!

The hitherto nameless 13th Card Professor dispatched so cavalierly by Yugi in a single panel at the beginning of Yu-Gi-Oh! R Duel R32 is finally identified in a sketch in the bonus material in Yu-Gi-Oh! R Volume 4 (2007.04.04, Shueisha, ISBN 4-08-874351-2).
His name is Cedar Mill and (had he gotten any chance to actually Duel) he uses what Akira Itō calls a "High-Tech Marionette" Deck.
In keeping with the established Card Professor naming convention, he's named for the 3.8GHz 65nm Pentium 4, codenamed "Cedar Mill" after an unincorporated community in Washington County, Oregon, just a few miles from the main Intel campus in Hillsboro.

Yes, I was glad they included that. Yugi just defeating him an a two-page duel was such a cop-out when compared to the other Card Professors. If they wanted to show that Yugi had gotten even better as a duelist they could have at least started from the beginning.
That High-Tech Marionette card shown behind him looks rather nifty. It would be nice if Shueisha would release one of them, with their own effect.
Heh, I love the end-of-chapter pictures in R. My favorite's gotta be Klamath and Kirk playing with remote-control versions of their monsters. Very fanservice-y.

Nice that Card Professor 13 was finally given a name. He kinda reminded me of Charles Beams for some reason. Probably the effeminate-yet-still-badass eyelashes...
Ryusaki: Are there any scans of this Marionette or the Olser/Dixon scene?

I can't help with the Osler/Dixon scan, but here's Cedar Mill (http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/0/3/0/3/0/4/webimg/43899366_o.jpg) and one of his high-tech marionettes, courtesy of hai_Priesty at Janime's forum.

Thanks FS. Nice picture.
Reminds me slightly less of Charles Beams now, but still...

Here y'are Lewko, the remote control showdown (http://img147.imageshack.us/my.php?image=klamathql4.png). Bit of a poor scan, I did it myself, but you get the message.

Now that is made of win. Makes me want R in English all the more.

Woah...That first pic of Cedar Mill...Is that a cybernetic demoness with him? :D
Edit: OK, now that I've actually gotten the pic to work...Is nice! Makes me want R in English, too!
When'd Cedar first show up, by the way? I'm curious, now.

His design kind of makes him look a tad celtic, or as if he were one of the many villagers lurking around in a Legend of Zelda game. His face is also strange (he sports a very defined chin...lol).
Although I'm not jumping for joy at the professor himself, his deck not being shown greatly saddens me. Marionette demonesses? Very relative to my interests! The one card behind him in that picture looks awesome, I would have love to have seen its effect, and some of the other cards in his deck. :(

Cedar Mill first appears on the first page (http://www.janime.biz/YugiohR/manga/32/janime_yugiohR_episode32_01.jpg) of Yu-Gi-Oh! R Duel R32 and is last seen on the third (http://www.janime.biz/YugiohR/manga/32/janime_yugiohR_episode32_03.jpg) page, the second page of double-page spread.
He appears to have been annihilated by Slifer/Osiris before he could even deploy his Duel Disk...

Wow. How random's that?
"Screw the rules, I have crazy hair! I summon Saint Dragon -God of Osiris before you can even draw!"
(Please tell me I got Osiris' full name right, LOL.) Seriously, that's just...bizarre. Thanks a lot, FS! :D

The High-tech Marionette monster looks really awesome and would make a really nice Limited edition or V-jump subscription promo, stupid we didn't even get to see it in action and see her effect if any...

If there's ever an R anime (which I am currently hoping there will be), it'll probably extend those 2 panels into a full episode duel between Cedar and Yugi. Like what they did to Bakura vs. Ghost.
I mean, that seems to be the anime's specialty, doesn't it? It turned a photograph of a nameless old friend of Sugoroku's (Hopkins) into a 2-part duel involving his granddaughter and even some of his backstory, then included them in 2 filler arcs.

Rebbecca is probably the best thing the anime has done. :p
