The more competitive players here do.
I have never EV trained anything from Ru/Sa/E,
although I HAVE EV trained a bit on D/P.

whats EV training?

I know at least 1 beginner's gonna ask this......
I'll be nice and explain.

EV train is special training. You can actually control how your Pokemon grows. You EV train by battling specific Pokemon. Example: I battle a ton of Gyarados, that gives me ATK EVs. Each Gyarados gives you 2 ATK EVs, and every Pokemon gives you some sort of EV. A Zubat gives you 1 SPEED EV. A Pokemon can obtain 510 EV maximum. Each stat can have up tp 255 EV. After that it grows naturally. My Adamant Salamence has 405 ATK(Maximum ATK a Salamence can havev because I EV trained it and has perfect ATK IV.(I'll explain what IVs are later) That item called Macho Brace doubles the EVs you gain. If you battle random Pokemon, the EVs are all spread around depending on the Pokemon you battled. Rare Candies are bad because they don't give EVs, it's safe to use them after you EV train.

IVs are Individual Values. The are set the moment you get the Pokemon, so you can't change them. IVs are ranged from 1 to 31. My Salamence has 31 IV in ATK(I'm so lucky). So, if you have a fully EV trained Adamant natured Salamence, its ATK can be ranged from 375-405 depending on the IV.

It's the same with all other Pokemon, I'm just using my Salamence as an example. My Mewtwo has also 31 S.ATK in IV. I got it on my third try! It has 447 in S.ATK.(The highest a Mewtwo can have)

I breed for perfect IVs and EV Train. I used to play competitively at tournaments, but have basically stopped. I stick to Netbattle now, though.

Before I sold my copy of Emerald, I had (off the top of my head):

Zangoose
Flailgoose
Shuckle
Tyraniboah
DD-Tar
Bellyzard
DDMence
Elemence
Metagross
Agiligross
Curselax
SkarmBliss

and most of the other competitive Pokemon fully EV Trained and bred for perfect IVs. I don't have the time to do that anymore. =(

Meh. Search for some of my threads in this forum for some of my EV Spreads if you'd like.

You should ready stuff in advance for D/P,
stuff that has become much better, stuff to fit the physical/special split, etc.

Yes very true, fortunately I can just transfer my Emerald PKMN to either Ruby or Sapphire, reset Emerald, and EV train for DP. It's long, but whatever, it would pass the time when I don't have anything else to do.

Well, having good stuff ready is already fine,
but you may want to consider changing moves..

Some Pokemons had major changes, though..

Yeah, I had already figured that and had included that as part of my D/P training.
