now that Fifth Dawn has been released, what do you guys think of the Mirrodin block as a whole? Personally I can't think of a better time to re-discover magic - I think it has great cards with new twists on game play (Indestructable etc.) and it is an awesome set!

Mirrodin - A very good "big" set. It really got the block goin and everyone was way into it.
Darksteel- A lil eh.... not one of those ones that'll be remember. we got ravager and the collosis, and the other things weren't very successful...
Fifth Dawn- Love it, love it, love it. i haven't even gotton packs yet (tommmorow i am though) and i already love it!
As a whole, i think this was a really good block that people will remember, and always love (like the urzas..)

can't agree more - I have got Fifth Dawn packs and believe me, you'll love it even more when u get them :D
Also I like the new card design - I know this was really with 8th Edition (which aparently was awful) but I first saw it in Mirrodin and I love it!

I think Onslaught is a lot better in terms of everything. O-o ~)~

Onslaught was a TERRIBLE set in too many ways, and doesn't come near Mirrodin in terms of ingenuity. Not to mention the Leigons Incident (shudders).
However, Mirrodin does have one problem... it's a rares set. Most of the tournament worthy decks run several sets of multiple expensive rares, and it becomes very difficult for the budget player to survive. With eternal dragon at $10, all the tooth and nail components at anywhere from 5-7 apeice, and ravager at over $20...thats not including all the rest of the expensive rare stuff the top decks need to win. This is why Onslaught, despite it's glaring weaknesses, was a set where scrubby decks could easily survive and even win. Odyssey was even better, as the top decks ran one or no rare cards.

yes, the best thing to do is save up all yur cash and buy a 64 boosters or whatever - a lot cheaper than buying them 1 by 1 ;)

wow rmember odysee. Top creature, Psychatog, cost, about 80c. I loved that. You could still easily win and you didnt even have to run wish :) . I honestly hope the prices drop oin cards these days, 30 some dollars for a ravager is ridiculous.

Ugh, I decided on a Tooth and Nail decklist the other day.
I checked a bunch of sites, and the sonuvagon would run me about $150, even my Yu-Gi-Oh deck, with it's exorbitant costs didn't top that...(It was in the low 100's)

Seems i've hit a good nerve here...
Can anyone post anything they feel is tournament worthy that could win on a budget? I cant think of anything besides maybe Big Red.

hmmmm... the only stuff I can really think of would be:
R/G beasts with Land D (but that runs BoP and Baloth)
B/W Clerics with infinate life combo
MBC (making a comeback with 5D)
Big Red and other versions of MR sligh
X/r myr (with echoes and w//o)
iunno those are kind of budget, a whole lot cheaper than ravager and TaN

Decks that are expensive:
Raffinity--Ravagers ($60 a ps), Glimmervoids($20 a ps)
Sarnia Affinity--Glimmervoids($20 a ps)
Ponza--Viridian Zealot (20 a ps at minimum), Foothills (7)
Gobbo Bidding--Bidding (7 apiece), Piledrivers (6 to 8 apiece), Sharpshooters (6 apiece), clamp (2 apiece), Mires (6), Warchiefs (2.5).
Elf and Nail--Tooth and Nail (??? dunno), Clamp (2 apiece)
U/W Control--Dragons (7), WoG's (8), Vengeance (6), O-Stones (8), PotF (5), Angels (dropped down to 9?), DoJ (9 to 12), Stands (7)
MWC--See U/W Control
Slide--Vengeance, Dragons, Angels, WoG, DoJ, Fetches (7)...Look familiar?^^^
Decks that are Cheap (Relatively cheap):
wwE--Shikaris (4), Steelshapers (5), Clamps (2) Heaths (5)
Death Cloud--Death Cloud (5), Mire (6)
I do see your point though. Most competitive Decks are very expensive. Welcome to T2 though.

1. I thought Ponza was red...
2. Viridian Zealots are 5$....
Death Cloud is by far not cheap.
It has Zealots, Baloths, Clamps, Death Cloud itself, Fetch Lands, Cementary, among other things.
Cheap decks are: WW, and Rouge (most rouge, anyway).
Any deck can be budgetized though. Like Viridian Zealots can be replaced for Viridian Shamans. I'm usually pretty good at making budgetized decks so just tell me what deck you want and I'll see what I can do.
PS. One of Zeta's Mono Red SLigh (I think it's under "Power Blitz" or something) was worth about 20$ and was capable (VERY capable) of a 5th turn kill (i took out the moxes though...). I don't know why I said this, but we were on the subject of good T2 budget decks so this came to mind (Great Job Zeta!).

I think sliver decks can run on little to no rares, well mine can anyways... most good sliver decks don't even have the overlord or the queen, cus they just cost too much. the only rares in my entire sliver deck are brood sliver, 2 essence slivers, sliver overlord, and Karona False God. That's it! and surprisingly, I've won around three tourneys with that sliver deck believe it or not! and i didn't even have the overlord until just yesterday anyways, so I really don't need it at all! There are alot of deck types that are very cheap to run with the right strategies behind them, mainly tribal decks like slivers, elves, goblins ( not goblin bidding, goblin swarm), zombies, etc. Need I go on?

Looks like magic prices are going where YGO prices have been for a while...
Low 100's for a YGO deck? Was it competative at all?

Ok. For the block rating:
Mirroden- Wow. Can you say expensive cards? Heh, seriously though, it was a good set but a little over exagerated with some of the cards. It brought out Affinity, and Entwine so I guess that's ok.
Darksteel- Blah. Just Blah. I didn't enjoy the whole "Indestructible" thing. Too pricy and so stupid. I know it had Ravager, and I did like the whole Arcbound thing, but it was still boring. The middle set is usually the worst.
Fifth Dawn- I have no cards of it so far, but it's awesome. I LOVED Invasion Block, and I liked this as well. Sunburst is ok. We won't see it in constructed though. It had the Bringers, which are very neat. I just like how every card is SO DIFFERENT! Every one of them had a weid effect.
As of whole, I'd give the set a 8/10. I liked Oydessey and Invasion better, but it did well.

I like M/FD but I think darksteel has been a bit downgraded by you guys, I mean have you ever seen TnT go off because of a memnarch? I have..

TnT? Do you mean TaN which is tooth and nail....if so Memnarch in TaN sucks...
