I heard from a friend a while back that there's an scene in the BoBoBo-Bobobobo (or whatever) manga where Bobobo pulls yugi out of his huge blonde afro.

Then Yugi, of course, summons Slifer the Sky Dragon for the win. Does anyone know where this can be found? Am I off topic?

Close enough to on-topic for me. There's only one volume of Bo^7 released in America; Yugi gets summoned from the 'fro midway through the fight against Halikulani (sp?) which takes up the second half of the volume. The best part is that Yugi and Slifer were drawn by Takahashi himself, as a favor for Bo^7's creator. Funniest part of the book for me :D .

the favor was returned... the nu(pretzel looking thing) was the design on one of anzu's handkerciefs or something like that... i can't remember...

It was Honda's handkerchief, and the actual use can be seen in Millenium World Vol. 4.

I found it recently. It appears when the group finally finds Atem in the Memory World. Honda asks if he can really see them, and in the next panel he is seen holding the hankechief.

Are you sure that's in volume 4?

I think it might be in Volume 3, actually.

Yes, the scene is actually in Vol. 3 toward the end. My mistake.

To be precise, it's page 163, panel 4 of Yu-Gi-Oh! Millennium World Volume 3 (2006.04.01, Shonen Jump/VIZ, ISBN 1-3215-0409-X) = Yu-Gi-Oh! Volume 34 (2003.08.09, Shueisha, ISBN 4-08-873492-0).

The "pretzel-like" symbol on Honda/Tristan's hanky is the Japanese hiragana character [ ぬ ] (nu). In Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo, the nu character adorns the handkerchief of Tokoro Tennosuke/General Jelly Jiggler, which is seen and used many times. Later in the series, he begins to become obsessed with the nu character and it eventually adorns just about everything he owns, beginning with nu pajamas. The English dub avoids any mention of the nu character as such, making it the symbol of his "lucky hanky" on everything with which he adorns it.

I can explain how this happened. Takahashi and the author of Bo-bo-bo meet each other at a Shonen Jump party and agreed to put the two characters in a manga. It would be out of line for Bo-bo-bo and his friends to be in the Yu-Gi-Oh storyline. However, it could be easily done in the Bo-bo-bo manga because of it's ability to add sudden randomness to the storyline as it's humor.

The first volume corresponds to material from the Japanese volume 9 IIRC. It was released as a test by Shonen Jump to gauge Bobobo's US popularity. Considering how long it's been since the test volume came out (a year or so? I'm not sure on this), odds of the rest of the manga coming over don't look too good I'm afraid. Which kinda sucks, since the manga can get away with more than the anime in terms of pop culture references like Afro Yugi and the somewhat bloodier violence. It's downright silly how it seems like nearly every attack results in a spray of blood, which I'm sure is what the manga-ka was going for.
