Hey there what's up? I just wanted to say I am pumped for this game. I am original PokeMon player, and I have not played a PokeMon game since Silver, but I am coming out of retirement for this game because it just looks so awesome, and so is my best friend who has not played a PokeMon game since Gold.
Anyway, I was wondering if me my and my friend were the only ones doing this, or if you think a lot of gamers that played the original PokeMon games, but have not played since back in the Original GameBoy and GameBoy Color days will make a comeback for this game since it has online and just looks to be awesome?
So tell me what you think, or if you are doing the same please post your story, thanks and I look forward to seeing you all on this board and online.

This game IS very good. New additions are always welcome and the graphical improvement is as well.
From personal experience, I warmly recommend it,
and let's hope the 3rd version will have something like Battle Frontier.

I am getting a DS just for these 2. Haven't played Pokemon since Gold and Silver either.
Same. I got my DS only for those.
Later on, though, I did buy some awesome games.

Aside from all the cool new features, awesome graphics, online trading and battling, and all the new Pokemon, what's making all the "original" Pokemon players back (In my opinion) is the return of the Day/Night feature.
Most people who stopped playing after G/S/C are coming back simply because of it.
It just makes the game feel more natural, more... real. =P
I wanted my DS for this but ended up buying it for other reasons too.
The day/night feature didn't matter much to me except when I wanted an Umbreon and an Espeon in FR/LG.
The graphical improvements are extremely improved though I wonder how both screens will be used.

For all the reason's people have listed, I really think this game is gonna sell huge in the US just like it did in Japan. I really believe that a lot of Original PokeMon players will be making a comeback for this game and are going to love it to boot, just like I am expecting to after all the rave reviews the Japanese version has been getting all over the net. I really can't wait to play, everyday gets me more ready.

New features make it sexy.
I can't stop digging underground, hoping for a fossil.

I want Heart Scales. I have too many fossils.
Actually those are pretty common. The problem is that they're very small.
I got my Scale for Ice Punch in about 3 digs.
Say, do fossils still go into the Key Items inventory?

No, the go in the same place as Heart Scales.

Well, I never left but here's hoping i finally finish a game, something I haven't done since R/B/Y. Most additions were just more for me to go crazy about (e.g. worrying about if I am leveling up right, have the right temperment, are my Pokemon happy, etc.) Not that they are necessarily bad, but I tend to let myself get bogged down in the details, put the game down, and never pick it up (unfinishied copies of Crystal and Emerald).
From what I have seen, I am very happy that some of the more persistant "gaps" are filling. Its always bothered me how many "unfulfilled" type combinations are still floating around.
Anyway, got a copy of Pearl reserved (why Pearl? I rolled a dice and it came up what I designated as "Pearl" XD)

It's nice to see that there are a lot more adult PokeMon players now. Not that I have anything against the younger players, but this this game is really awesome for anyone and it's nice to see other adults that think the same way. I think it was bound to get to this point though in a way since so many people like myself grew up on PokeMon games, it's also nice to see a new generation just jumping in now to though. The PokeMon nation is as strong and diverse as it's ever been and that's a good thing for both us fans and the series itself. I could not have picked a better time for a comeback.

This game does sound really good. I am a little skeptical about purchasing it. I have a long list of games to purchase such as final fantasy 3, children of mana, Zelda (ds), and yoshi's island 2 just to name a few.
Have they improved some of the skills and balanced some of the classes? Like dragon being weak against 2-3, grass being weak to 5-6 types or bugs getting better moves to actually effect the physic type.
its a toss up. The reason behind me playing pokemon was the competive part. thats what kept it alive IMO.
Tell me how it goes when everyone here gets it.;-}

Pokémon Diamond & Pearl
Pokémon Diamond & Pearl are thre fourth generation of Pokémon games. Having come out for the new Nintendo system, the Nintendo DS, Diamond & Pearl makes use of the DS's many functions including TouchScreen and WiFi. Diamond & Pearl also brings back many features from Gold & Silver that have since been removed.
Bringing 107 New Pokémon into the mix, bringing us to a total of 493 Pokémon, including many evolutions of old Pokémon, Diamond & Pearl completely overhauls the battling system. No longer are move's stats based on its type , but rather each move is individually allocated being Physical or Special.
Diamond & Pearl are set in the far off land of Sinnoh and have you playing as a Rookie trainer wanting to go through Sinnoh, beat the Gyms and become the best trainer. However, throughout your travels, you will encounter two rivals as well as the evil Team of the land; Team Galactic, whom are bent on obtaining the special legendary of your version.
Diamond & Pearl has over 400 Pokémon obtainable within it, making it the biggest Pokémon game to date. There are many methods to find the Pokémon in the game; Inserting your GBA Game in for Wild Pokémon, Swarms, The Pokétore and the Pokémon Mansion. However, this is not all as you are capable of transferring your teams from your GBA Versions through Pal Park, this is however one-way.
Diamond & Pearl also brings a whole new thing into the Pokémon World; online battling & trading. Using the critically acclaimed Nintendo WiFi Connection, you are capable of sharing Friend Codes with your friends and battling with them. You can also trade with them across the WiFi Connection. Diamond & Pearl also have a Trading Station that allows you to put up a Pokémon that you have, state what you want and have someone trade it with you. A very efficient system indeed.
Diamond & Pearl keeps all of the functions the games have had in the last generation as well as introducing some new ones and reintroducing the Time Based events. It has a cool feature called the Pokétch that allows you to keep up to date with all your goings on including Captures, Breeding, and the location of the fleeing legends.
That's what that Serebii's site says about the new game. Sounds like they just quoted a press release, so this site might have it too, but I was already there looking up Bug-Type moves to answer MM>MMX (whose name is a debatable point, methinks).
This is a late correction due to my computer not liking the controls Pojo uses (so it never edited like two hours ago) but now that moves themselves are physical (attack based), Special (Special Attack based), or other (whatever's relevant), I think it'll help a lot of Pokemon. I mean, big bruiser Water Types have always been common, but Water seems to be a Special Attack based thing in some games and plain Attack based thing in others, iirc. If not, just insert an example that works. :-P

I'm going to be spending an obscene amount of money.... :(
Pokemon D/P is on the top of my list tho, and this will be my first real competitive playing oppertunity since RBY!

If there is a surge in old players returning, I only find blame's cause to be on the new Physical/Special System, with my only evidence being that said system is the only thing that got me reinterested.

I think it's more then that, I mean with the Wi-Fi battles and trading, the graphics upgrade, the touch screen functionality, and yes the Physical/Special System. This is the game that we only dreamed of back in the day and now it's almost here and it rocks. That's why I am coming back and I think it's either one of or a combo of all of that that is bringing the Original/ 2nd gen PokeMon players back.

I think its funny that some people here stopped playing after G/S/C cuz thats when i stopped playing and watching the anime(although some of my friends also stopped) since my Silver cartridge lost my 200 something pokedex, 26 unown and all the lv 100 pokemon i bred as well as all the items like dolls and nintendos from mysery gift. I just thought 'that took hours of me not doing homework and avoiding practise, screw it i'm not doin it again' , however I actually had trouble with the Time feature back then cuz i kept forgetting to play at the right times. I wanna get Diamond.

Some of this is the inevitability of maturing.
Yes, I said maturing. I went through it with Transformers. In my teens, I felt stupid for still enjoying the basic concept at the very least (Beast Wars and Machines are not my favorite series) and by college I realized... I don't care if people think I am a dork for still liking Transformers. While the cartoons have still been of questionable quality (loved RiD, which was ironically just a dub of a Japanese cartoon they did a year earlier and intended as mere filler), Hasbro made sure there have been figures I'd enjoy by actually creating toy lines that appeal to the older fans from the original cartoon (Alternators, Transformers Classics, and re-releases of figures from the original line).
Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if that's what is happening with at least some of these returning fans. I stayed a Pokemon fan because... its what I had. I still had plenty of cards and finally sucked it up and attended Pokemon League and that became my main social activity, keeping me in the game when most others had moved on.

I am the only pokemaniac in my school. But i dont care. I remember being sick for preschool in 98...and watching it. Pokemon Red was my first ever game. Come a near 10 years later and here i am,waiting for the next installment of the game that changed my life. Lets face it,Pokemon will never die.And i am happy to say
22 days.....

You can't indeed. Right.
That's semi-lame, as I would love a random battle feature. But I can deal.
At my school, we've basically gone for a the D/P race. Most hardcore gamers are going to play D/P, and we'll just have a bunch of face-offs. I already have a D/P rival =P
Indeed, Pokemon is coming back.

Ah, but of course. I was there with Red shortly after it came out. I played Yellow, I played Gold, I played Ruby. Didn't play Crystal or Emerald though, but now that I see what I could get, I may just have to invest in it after all. However, wi-fi trading may mean I don't.
However, I really hope that the in game difficulty ramps a bit. While there are some areas where I'm hoping and praying for a lucky shot, it's still just been... too easy for me lately. I'm more worried about PP than HP a lot of the time, because while health potions and stuff have always been common, ethers have been stupid rare. But eh, that's neither here nor there.
I like the Sinnoh concept. From what I've heard, it's apparently a lot bigger then Johto or Hoenn, which would definitely be nice. I'd really like it if we could do like G/S/C though and visit the other regions and battle gym leaders and stuff there.
We still need a Pokemon MMORPG -_-
Otaku

No. No we don't. Because then I'd have no life. ;)
I'd rather have a true RPG anyway (that is, in the vein of things like Dungeons and Dragons or Werewolf: The Apocalypse), preferably using the GURPS system (Generic Universal Role-Playing System, which I didn't use as an example of "real" RPGs because most non-role-players don't know what it is).
The difficulty aspect... well to be fair, part of the problem with that is how the Gym Leaders are set up (and even the battles). I mean, all ya gotta do is face an opponent, see what they have, reset and use whatever they are weak against. I think it'd be far more interesting (and perhaps make more sense story wise) if to become a "Pokemon Master" you had to compete against the Gym Leaders with something akin to a real strategy and not just type matching: Pokemon can't be more than five levels higher than the Gym Leaders Pokemon, perhaps even have to have to be the "Type" of the Gym.
Otherwise, my main concern/complaint are some of the outdated mechanics that still exist. PP was mentioned as being the primary concern for Charninja when battling. Its one of the outdated concepts, as far as I am concerned. I'd rather have a PP "pool", or replace with stamina or fatigue points or something like that. As you battle, your PokeCritter may tire out. It'd add another dimension to battling, but this time one that makes sense. Take Hyper Beam. All the Pokemon that can learn and perform Hyper Beam and get five shots out of it without PP Ups. Instead, I'd rather it just caused more fatigue than other attacks (like say Megapunch), but it'd be hard for an opponent to know how many shots of it I had left. A Pokemon with less stamina might still want Hyper Beam, since other stats could make it desirable (high damage being the most obvious). You wouldn't know if that Pokemon had it as a one and done finishing move or a solid tool in their arsenal, barring what Species would indicate.
I'd also rather they got rid of some "redundant" attacks by having attacks level up as well. If you've played Shining Force, think of how that magic system works. Each Spellcaster has four slots for Spells, but their spells can go up to like Level 5, with higher level Spells costing more MP but having greater damage and hitting a larger area. That would mean instead of Thundershock, Thunderbolt, and Thunder taking up three slots, it'd only take up only one.
But I digress (quite a bit) by the looks of it. The topic is "original players making a comeback", and yeah I keep hearing more and more people coming back to Nintendo as a whole. I am starting to think part of Pokemon fading out was Nintendo's recent decline that the DS and Wii seem to signify the end of.
You see, Otaku, there's a problem with the level-up.
In those games, the higher the level, the better the skill is.
The MP is not so important.
However, here, many people would rather use Thunderbolt over Thunder,
and so it is different.
Or is leveling them up optional? In that case, what would it cost?
Pokedollars? Meh. I prefer the current system than the stamina one.
PP is of NO concern outside of in-game battling.
Besides, there's always PP Ups and restorers.

Its amazing, that for nearly half of the time I have been alive Pokemon has existed. As an 9-10 year old it practically consumed my life (it was really unhealthy  ) I would play the games, collect the cards and play the card game, and watch the show. Eventually I stopped collecting the cards. (although i still have the original 151 in pokedex order :D, an accomplishment i am very proud of.) I stopped watching the show consistantly about the middle of the johto series untill i barely watched it at all. Now a days i'll watch it sometimes but hardly ever. The games however I never stopped playing. Whoever created they games is a genius. I have played every rpg pokemon game for the handheld systems exept for crystal. Infact I still have my copy of emerald that I intend to swap some pokes over to when I get diamond or pearl (I havent decided yet). I had all but given up hope on the games until I found out about diamond and pearl. I had already gotten a DS so I was stoked when I found out. Unfortunately for me I cant do the wifi thing all the time, b/c my computer (well it really isnt mine its the "kids" computer and there are 4 "kids" in my house) doesnt have the wifi thing. HOwever, my friend has his own comp, with wifi, and is getting diamond or pearl. Unfortunately for me he lives in high point nc, and i live in Lexington nc. Its about 20 some miles away (Im glad I have a car).
Based on what I have said (well typed) I would like to think that I am an original Pokefan. I am really glad that it is still alive after all these years.

Same. I got my DS only for those.
Later on, though, I did buy some awesome games.
Same for me. Except, New Super Mario Bros. was too cool to pass up. Metroid Prime: Hunters, I could'a lived without.
Additional Comment:

Yeah, same for me. It was insane, back when we were 10. Those cards consumed me...But even when Pokémon was "passé" in my school, I still bought the games, because, let's face it, they're great RPGs. I DID buy Crystal, but it was sorta a waste of time. As for the cards...I'm missing a TAUROS (a Common, for God's sake!) and a Hitmonlee...So sad. Other than that, I have all 251...Long live Pokémon. lol...

Though I am leery of derailing the topic, let me clarify something I said earlier (then it can die a peaceful death): I cited Shining Force as an example, and should have explained it. When you level up, you gain the option of, for example, using a higher level (stronger) version of the attack. As for something like Thundershock/Thunderbolt/Thunder, given that they have you learn them in a specific order in the game, it would seem fair (if they ever were to actually do what I suggested) let you begin with Thundershock, and as your Level grew eventually you would get Thunderbolt and Thunder... but they'd be all on the same slot, since the attacks are so similar. Its been a bit, so forgive me if I am wrong, but isn't is largely a difference of accuracy, damage, and PP? And in Shining Force, you often want to use the lower level attacks: less MP usage (and again, were my idea applied, less PP usage) would be a huge thing. I just find it so annoying. Maybe its just the role-player in me who hates the "PP" system.
"I have enough Energy to use a Thundershock but am too tired to tackle!"
Sure. Even the cartoon seems to have ditched it: at least in the dub they'll comment on Pikachu being out of "electricity", or over all fatigued, but not out of PP.
pokemon has evolved so to speak,i rember getting my first pokemon game,it was pokemon blue fore the normal game boy.i was so ready the night before, only got 3 hours of sleep .i misss thouse times.i had a team of 6 arcanines, then i whent to Yellow, gold, ect and now i am going to get diamond..fore touse who say to you that your to old to play pokemon.tell them to go jump in a creek,i am 22 and i still play it,juest like i play yugioh :).so here it to all the returning old school pokemon trainers.cheers guys

I've been reading posts looking for something to post upon. I feel this is the perfect subject.
I'm one of those guys who was completely enamored in the whole pokemon fad. The cards, the shows, the movies, the games, everything was pokemon for me. That was a way of life for me for a long while. It was just something I grew out of. I remember I purchased a SP for the specific purpose of playing Ruby and I ended up giving my game away to a young kid and selling my SP. I remember playing Blue on my dad's big old grey gameboy in the summer of 1999. There are a lot of good memories in this franchise.
I guess you could call this a comeback but I just view this as a video game. And its something to do for the summer, thats what Pokemon has always been to me is an activity to fill up my summer boredom. I farely interested in the whole upgrade, I plan on purchasing a DS Lite, Fire Red, Emerald and possibly Diamond. You may call that overkill but I'm geniuely excited about Pokemon in a long time For some reason the 3rd games have always been the best to me.
I didnt play Ruby long enough to really understand all the concepts of the behaviors so I'm still stuck on G/S where breeding and Day and Night were big. My only gripe is the fact that the fire starter is fire/fighting yet again, in my opinion there really hasn't been a good fire starter since Charmander, but I will always have a soft spot for Cyndaquil.
So I guess you could call it a comeback.
