What are the winning decks now at your fnm?

From the last standard tournament I've been too, my local winning decks are any and all Pickles variants (Tron, Mono Blue, U/B). Next standard for us is when PC will be legal, so there might be a couple of new decks in the scene.

Project X has been doin decently at fnm the past 2 weeks. i'm personally not a fan of it though. My bro loves it...

What's the current Project X list look like? I would run it but my meta-game is full of people who looooove counterspells.

well, right now my local meta is stuck between 2 decks, blackfire (my deck) and dralnu (when i dont attend)

sounds arrogant but i dont think i could have built a deck thats a worse matchup for dralnu if i tried, and dralnu dominates my area by numbers.

our fnm is quite variable. out of the the past 4 weeks i've finished 2nd (splitting for first) 3 times with angelfire (which i call superman), which is nice cuz we see quite a bit of aggro decks (mono green, scryb, boros). there's a tiny bit of dragonstorm, dralnu, glare, snakeblink, uw tron, and the rest is just jank that the nubbies make.

I'm going to go into my meta now. Say 35 People showed up (about the average amount for where I go). Here are how many people play each of the main decks (from mtg.com plus a few more).

Mono Green Aggro 2-3
Dralnu du Louvre 0
Dragonstorm 4-5
Project X 2-4
W/B Control 2
Boros Deck Wins 1-2
U/W Urzatron 2
GhaziGlare 3-4
Angelfire variants 1
Ignite the Warrens 0
U/G PickleTron 1
U/G Scryb & Force 2
G/B Dredge 0  ( I was going to play this next week )
Panda Connection 0
Black Rack Discard 1
Gruul- 2-3
U/W CounterMesa 0
R/B Gargadon 0
W/B Rack Discard 1
U/b Pickles 1
SnakeBlink 1
U/W/G Control 0-1
Crappy newb decks 6-7 (I hate these people, well their decks really. First round bye usually)

So. The major decks are: Dragonstorm, Project X, GhaziGlare, U/W Urzatron, and Mono Green Aggro. I WAS going to play BDW this week, but I'm really sick. Ill probably let someone there borrow it (my bro is goin).

We have on average about 6-10 REALLY good people there. Closer to 10 usually, these are people who have been on the pro tour or are just really good. They play these decks: Dragonstorm, Project X, U/W Tron, MUC and some kinda unusual, but good blink deck.

(This is at the store I go to FNM at. I have been going to another place in addition on thursdays.)

i meant, that you can use 3-4 colors to have an extremely good and consistant combo. I am not a real big fan of type 2 anymore(and thats all i have). Just to much of the same it seems now :/

Yea. I kind of agree that its a bit ridiculous that it acctually works and is a really good deck...

So how does Project X fare against Dralnu/Pickles/Tron? Those are 3 most counter heavy decks out there (Tron being "counter heavy" via Spellburst lock) and I want to take P-X this Monday to CityChamps if testing posts good results. I'm just afraid of 4 Rewind, 4 Mana Leak/Rune Snag, Spellburst, etc. etc.

all your guys are cheap so you will be able to throw out 2-3 creatures a turn around turn 6. also if your bob hits, your pretty much going to auto win

sb 2-4 defense grids :/

The Boss
03-03-2007, 06:35 PM
The deck is soo tricky though. It'll combo out when you least expect it (like at the end of it's opponents turn.

I dont know how it does against dralnu since there isnt any dralnu decks in my meta really. It does pretty good against pickles. The key to playing against it (if you have countermagic) is NEVER EVER tap out.

hey, so elves and G aggro (after planar chaos) have been big decks in my local FNM.... any ideas as to how a goblin storm deck will do against elves? (i plan on taking 1 to this fridays FNM)

GiveUsBackTheBridge

well, the most heavily played decks in my meta have been dralnu, BDW, MGA, UW tron, and Project X...i won the last 4 tournaments with either blackfire (my RWB angelfire list) or my Scryb and Force...right now im leaning toward scryb and force as the best deck in the format, as, properly built, it has favorable matchups against pretty much the entire field, barring some stupid draw from UR tron wildfire...which is also really good (just not played a ton near me).

At local fnm this week I got second w/ my bdw deck ,only loss was to the bro :/

The deck that's been REALLY popular around me (mainly city champs and not fnm) is UW tron. Thats what won fnm. We'll see how I do tomorrow.

Oh wow, we have a bit of everything from T2 ... several Tron variations, a few mono Green, U/G Spectral Force/Scryb Ranger combo, there's a R/B sands, Countless Dralnu and Dragonstorms. My G/F runs a U/G/W countermesa (pretty good), There a few other Countermesa as well, and one guy runs SnakeBlink, A few Zoo decks, I personally run B/W/R Angels (firemane and despair) and I've won the past 2 times

rofl... why in the hell would you want to blink that lol.. maybe it works, but ic ant imaging it could.

if your mana screwed it could be useful sainkaa.

hiei_yasha
03-25-2007, 01:01 AM
there are times where you may have a blink that's dead in your hand. blinking an oracle is less than ideal in most situations, but it gets through your deck by 1 so it's usually always a 1-for-1 tradeoff. and say they go to wrath and you have nothing to deal with it. blink your oracle and you may draw into the remand or mystic snake or whatever.

so your mana screwed if you have a white green and a blue source on the field? more then likely some of them are duals :O

KingJames

true, but you might not have enough total mana.

hiei_yasha
03-30-2007, 12:49 AM
is there a difference between azorious tron and u/w tron?
as for me i'll be playing angelfire again and splitting for 1st obv :P lol j/k, i'll probably get beat by some weird jank deck like last week again..going 4-1 and finishing 5th messed up my "streak" :/

The Boss
03-30-2007, 10:38 PM
No there isnt a difference. Today I won with it, I play teferi and triskelivus as my win conditions. I dont like the brine elemental and vesuvan shapeshifter combo at all :P

I went to a new store that a friend opened, so it was 4 rounds, no tops.

1. Izzetron- 2/1 Win
2. Mono-Black Contol- 2/1 Win
3. Satanic Sligh 2/0 Win
4. Angelfire 1/1 Draw. I would have won next turn :(

Overall the deck did what it was supposed to do.

i went 4-0-1 today and got 2nd. would've went 5-0 but i got waaay too drunk before and during the tournament and i made some really bad play mistakes. it was a lot of fun though, and there's nothing like seeing your opponent's face as they get beat by a drunk :P

The Boss
03-31-2007, 05:38 AM
Yea. My brother got soooo drunk afterwords last night... It was funny watching him stumble around :P

I'm sure sainkaa was drunk as well...
