what the dif between norm and pvp servers

The difference between normal and PVP ****** is that in PVP ****** you will be able to fight opposing faction anywhere in the world. Meaning if you are Horde and you see an Alliance character, depending on where you are you will be able to fight him, or he fight you. This now brings the problem of being "ganked" meaning people coming up to you while you are leveling or questing and they kill you. However, you won't experience this until you are about level 30+ when you start leveling in areas that are "Contested" which is open PVP. Non-PVP servers dont allow you to fight opposing faction players so you have little interaction with the other faction. In my opinion, it's boring that way.
But I must note that recently due to inter-server battlegrounds I have seen less and less World PVP since people can get their PVP fix in the battlegrounds quite easily now.

I really like the gangwars that take place at Nessingwary's Camp... that was a blast.

Carebears?
Dear sir, PVE just makes us even MORE bloodthirsty in BG. Besides we have our share of World PVP.
Whenever an opposing player goes into enemy territory near a town, the guards/militia will attack them and try to drive them from the zone. If the opposing player fights back against the NPC, it will flag them for PVP. Then all hell breaks loose. :)
On Dragonblight, we have four 50+ Horde guys who have raided Sentinel Hill for like the last week. It's become ritual that they log in on top of the tower. Fight their way around to Deadmines and disappear into the instance. Then come out and head right back for the tower to log out.
On the flip side of that coin, we've had a raid group of 60's sack Ogrimaar and slaughter EVERY NPC they could find.
WoW is supposed to be fun. It really depends on what you view as fun as to whether you will like PVP servers or not. For me, this cinched a PVE server:
Getting ganked the second you walk into the Barrens on the Succubus quest is not fun.
Running back to your body, then getting ganked by the same jerk is not fun.
Rezing (with accompanying sickness) only to get ganked by a different jerk camping the graveyard, is not fun.
Repeating this process a bunch of times until you can limp to Rachet, not fun.
Having the Rachet guards beat the piss out of ****y orc warrior and me for him attacking me (I was still Flagged)... a little better to watch him get it, but not fun over all.
Still PVE & PVP beats the piss out of RP servers.

Haha, I had a Mage on a PvP server a while back, and the Booty Bay Bruisers beat the crap out of me for casting Arcane Intellect on myself. GG.
If you can deal with getting beaten up at a low level in order to dish out the same medicine when you reach a higher level then go go PvP.
If your a sissy who should be playing single player console games then go PvE.

Why do RP servers catch so much crap from people? They're just like normal servers in their game mechanics and personally I like that there is some semblence of authenticity to the game.
What's the point to walking aroudn Stormwind or Orgrimmar and seeing a warrior named Healzplz? I know I want to group with a priest named Shadowftw. People making fun of people for RP'ing is essentially making fun of people who play a game for the storyline. Besides my guild is very good at PvP, we have 6 Grand Marshals (who got there the hard way, before they changed the honor system) and we constantly do very well in battlegrounds.

Now, here's the thing. You come off as a total ****** in that post. Why?
Because, you feel it necessary to insult others because they don't want to put up with horsecrap for trying to play a game.
I also love that the logic of why PvP servers are better is "you can do the same to other new players later." What incentive is that to play?
Hey, this jerk rogue got bored one day and followed me all through out this zone and past just to screw over my quest, because I had to do it for this really important thing to my class. I'll do the same thing should any lower level guys try to come in my areas when I'm all big and bad.
If you want PvP, go to BG.
To the RP factor, WoW pokes fun at itself, cultural things, and other RPG's. This is one of the aspects that makes it so much fun to play. While I see why some people would enjoy getting into the world RPGwise as their is a LOT of flavor to play with. However, I'd rather sit down with some friends if I want to RPG over a D20 or the like. A lot more fun that way, IMHO.
Besides in a game that doesn't take it self seriously, why not let loose?

Whoa i didn't realise i was pushing any buttons here. It's just the incentive of people who play PvP servers to dislike those on PvE.
Now I was only joking previously, the best thing about a PvP server is the high level world PvP. I can't do the same BG over and over and over and over.
So you go for a run through WPL find some other peeps duke it out a bit and all is fun.
And yes i realise you can /pvp or whatever for the same effect but ultimately there is no difference between PvE and PvP.

Understood. It just bugs the crap out of me when people insult others because they don't like PvP servers.
I've just come across far too many people who consider PvP their license to be ****s and make another player's time useless.
Depends on whose side your playing for BG. Its never really the same, even though they are the same courses. Kinda like getting into pick-up games of paintball at your favorite field. Except when Alliance screws themselves over cause half the people are R-tards and don't want to play D. And then there are the premades... those get nasty.

Mostly through ignorance, and most people think the RP is on the extreme side where the lowest of low geeks dwell.
However, my experience with RP severs is through BGs, and as far as I can tell their organized BG groups aren't that competitive. This is the only complaint I have of RP servers.

It does get to a consensus of if you are on a PvP server that you are therefore better at PvP, i think even some people on PvE servers think this.
And i do somewhat agree with this i think that alot of people who want to focus solely on PvP go for a PvP server. And thus PvP servers see alot more rank 14's, but even then i have seen some PvE servers put up an awesome fight not only because they are good but because their gear is so advanced.
As for RP servers, i have nothing against RP i just think that when people think RP they think DnD and run away from the idea. I guess they cant see the fun of running around Booty Bay pretending to be a pirate.

Yeah, I think that WoW has cool fluff and all, but they are only hitting a small percentage of the market.
Most RPG players will generally stick to the tried and true method of books and dice. While it is a nice service to offer for those that "want to explore Azeroth", It won't attract most of the people interested in WoW now.

Fixed.
Eh, I love PvP servers, but I prefer PvE when it comes to... well, PvE content. I'm a big fan of running around and farming random stuff, and I'm not an aggressive person when farming. BG's is another story, and even Rank 14's on PvE servers act like total d***heads. Not all High Warlords and Grand Whatsitcalleds are bad, but like you said... most see it as their right to brag and flex their ***** everywhere.
I'm just glad I won't get stuck in that PvP bottleneck at 60-61 in Hellfire Peninsula next week. :(

Then there are people like myself who enjoy a good game that has social interaction, and not have to deal with being attacked by every random opposite faction while passing through a contested zone.
lvl 41 with little amount of blue equipment gets me a few whispers about my crapy gear, but I am still able to play and enjoy the game, and solo finishing quests taking on lv42-45 elites with a few deaths tells me I am doing okay.

PVP is dwelling with other faction.. Requires enough level to wine..
