I was wondering since I'm pretty new to Netbattle, are Slaking/Tropius viable for use? I was just curious on opinions of the 2 Pokemon and any suggestions of movesets would be great.

You can use any pokemon from Bulbasaur all the way to Deoxys{One form per a team though}

I'm talking as in would they do well against other teams that are competitive?

Tropius wouldn't last very long in the OU metagame. Slaking is a very powerful pokemon, although he gets owned by subbers and protect.

Are subbers/protect users common?

very common. some good pokemon you should use insted of theese two are alakazam, mr mime, gengar, tyranitar, charizard but stay away from steel types becuase fire pokemon are big in netbattle.

Steel Pokemon are almost necessary for netbattle.

Elly{Overblast :(} is right, the steel type is very powerful type.
There are alot of powerful pokemon, though you only get 6. Srry I thought you ment what pokemon are aviable :)
From what I see Blissey/Skarmory/Tyrainatar/Ninjask/GyaradoesJolteon/Swampert/Zapdoes are the most popular{but there are dozens of others}
Slaking is good, on the right team. Tropius isn't that great, no offense.

Um... Steel is one of the most powerful types there are. Steel is resistant/immune to all but 5 types in the game. Skarmory, metagross, jirachi are awesome pokemon in OU play. Forretress, Steelix, Magneton, Scizor, and Registeel are also more than capable of OU play. Not counting pre-evolutions, that's 80% of the steel-types that can work well in the OU metagame.
You are far more likely to run into a steel type than a fire type on netbattle.

I'm not sure about Steels, although usually they are REALLY Overused [Metagross and Skarmory mainly.. and Scizor] but I can tell you that fires barely see play.
I would fear more for Random Earthquakes, but then again, 50% of the OU ones have levitate, one is neutral, and only one is weak to it.
The only fire you'll see is perhaps Blaziken/Charizard.
Unless they have a random Overeath/Fire Blast [which is pretty much a must] you won't face too much problem.. these two are mainly physical, anyways.
Fire types are really rare.

thats an uber team 1okr. Not exactly good if he wants to be a real competitive player. My team is the following: Salamence
Suicune Snorlax Weezing Celebi and Tyranitar. If you need help with attacks and evs and such go to smogon.com.
