It's all about the control down here in Mobile, Alabama. Mostly everyone here runs Fire/Water with the exception of a few good Mental Power decks and about 2 Water/Wind and Fire/Wind.

The NJ meta is very varied. We all however play Clients and most ppl either have water or fire to their decks. But there are few water/fire decks compared to the rest.

Yeah definitely only bad players play clients in Jersey, or wherever you are for that matter. In jersey, i see wind/fire and water/fire being the meta and a splash of mental power here or there, but then again, its probably like that anywhere else.

come down to our store and say that. lol... i've played at 2 stores in NJ and won many matches with inari... as well as 2 genins and 2nd in another one. and have friends who have played at 1 of the other stores and had no problems either... coincidence?
im sick of ppl calling others bad players when they haven't even played them yet. If you want to play a game where 90% of the players play the same cards please go play YGO stein.

well i guess you can say inari is bad if you dont like drawing up to 6 cards and turning around the game...~shrugs~i just dont know it pains me to get a card advantage.

Where I hold tournies it varies I use Earth/Wind Mental Power, Water with a little fire, and I've almost got my Taijutsu deck done I just need a few more cards for it. The reigning champion of constructed format has just switched over to a "Love Conquers" deck, and the person that won Saturdays Sealed Deck tourney has recently tried an Eight Inner Gates deck the other people have limited card pools so they use what they have.

And I thought our store didn't have that many people. :rolleyes: Anyone see the gencon decks? They loko like wierd and not good compared to some of the good ones I know, anyone wanna tell me how they work, and whats not stopping people running decks like mine or Envy's form just womping all over Gen-Con?

I'm not going to judge the Gencon decks just yet, I will wait for an official Naruto Ccg Online to come out and play those people's decks myself.

They just look to random to be good. Maybe they are good and this falls back on my idea to run a random 25 ninja control deck.

It's not really all of the decks that get to me, just mainly the first place deck with his random one-of's. I'm not saying that the players at Gencon were the best or the worst out there, but from what I can tell, we have more competition at our weekly tournies of 8-12 than the top 8 at Gencon had.

I'm not sure If any of you guys have already read it or not but on Pojo's Naruto site a guy named JefftheBear was making a rant about how bad he thinks the metagame for Naruto is like compared to YGO.
http://www.pojo.com/naruto/Featured_Writers/Jeff_The_Bear/2006/12-6.shtml
In my area it's not as bad as he thinks it is, yes there are some staple cards but not in the sense that it has to be in every deck like in YGO in order to win.
There are Sasuke AOC's, 8 Trigram Divination Seal Spell Formulas, Water Style: Giant Vortex Jutsus, Zabuza DoCV, Early Settlement Kakashi, and Appearance of Unknown Rivals in just about every competitive deck from what I hear.
The majority of every tournament winning deck I hear runs Sasuke AOC's in every deck. I don't know what's got in his head but this game is not turning into YGO, it has a resource system like Magic does and is more balanced. There is a cost to be paid for every card, YGO doesn't have that.
The main reason why there's certain staples in today's meta for Naruto is because there's only 3 expansions out right now, give it some time and then when Naruto is at it's 5th, 6th, 7th, or 8th expansion things will be different.
This game is NOT YGO nor will it become the way YGO was when Chaos ruled the meta. I don't get why some people get confused by this.
The Naruto CCG is about as balanced as Magic and Duel Masters, at least that's the way I see it...

I don't run fire/water and i've played some of the competetive fire/water decks and it isn't too bad to play against, i disagree. i think atm their is a variety of decks that can compete competitively but you need to make it right which is hard about naruto but i also like that about the game.
(may have to reread this a couple times the grammer sux)

Any deck in Naruto can compete real good, it doesn't matter what you're running as long as it plays well, is very consistent, and it's very good.
I was chatting with someone on a different message board regarding JefftheBear's article about the current metagame for the Naruto CCG and here's what he/she said:
Originally posted by Deya Rae on the Naruto Bandai Site:
JefftheBear's article really wasn't very good. Nor was he very honest. Or knowledgeable. He just wrote things that supported HIS ideas and not the whole truth, like a mudslinging politician.
To be honest, the game has flaws. But he neglects to mention that:
A) It is a new game! It hasn't even been out for a year! Of COURSE the meta is going to be limited.
B) He obviously didn't check out the deck builds for GenCon Indy very well. The Balrog's Rebuttal and Sasori's Tempo totally flipped the metagame.
C) This last set made wind playable, with putting a powerful ninja like Baki in it.
D) 1.This last set in particular was not excellent for the metagame. Hence why a lot of the decks at SoCal were so similar. Except that even with the staple AoC's, there was MORE variety than at Indy. There just wasn't anything metagame-affecting.
2. It was GREAT for wind, gave water more than it needed, and gave fire MORE amazing missions. Next set however, after reviewing the cards, I feel will be exploding with different deck types, with Earth finally getting the jump it needed to be included in the "playable elements" list.
E) This game is constantly changing and getting better and that is what I like about it. Every set brings something different. Do not judge it yet, it has only begun.
F) We are SO fortunate that Bandai is CHANGING a lot of the rulings from the Japanese to the English, so the game doesn't become unplayable. Maybe he wasn't aware that they are modifying the new SR Kabuto's ability, so he isn't totally crazy-broken. And he is going to be so hard to find anyway.
G) A money-hungry game? Hardly. Even the SR's don't cost much, except for 2-3, and no card ever went for more than $80 at one time, and that was the 4th Hokage leak on Ebay before the 3rd set was officially released. Now, you will find SR Haku, Kakashi SR, and the 4th for $50, max. Building a deck with a limited #/no SR's is not impossible. It is tricky and takes talent and hard work. But there is no card that says "this MUST be played or I lose". Kakashi's other versions that AREN'T SR are very good cards. The Fourth Hokage is overrated. Yes, he is. I promise. In addition, I have found the trading pool to be deep, and have not had much of an issue giving up some SR's for the ones I need.
In conclusion, JefftheBear is both right and wrong. The game is flawed. However, his "rant" was totally one-sided and sheds an innappropriately negative light on the Naruto CCG. If he cannot build a tournament-level deck without less than 1-2 SR's, he can feel free to pm me and I will help him do so.
I think the Naruto CCG has a bright future ahead of it, and I don't think there has been any problems with what's been going on with the Naruto CCG Metagame in my area.
Super Rares in most cases are hard to obtain yet they are expensive I'm aware of that, but to build a good tournament worthy deck for the Naruto CCG you'd want to include no less than 1 or 2 Super Rares which isn't that hard but it can be done, trust me.
My Earth/Lightning Taijutsu deck includes 3 Super Rares, 2 of Eight Inner Gates and 1 Hidden Lotus yet I only run 2 Sasuke AOC's due to deckspace. It's actually beaten quite a few decks and the Jutsu card Attack against Weak Spots helps alot for Earth decks when you're stuck battling a team with a high attack power.
It can do pretty good on a competitive scale but it's main weakness is Mental, and there's not much that Taijutsu can do when you go into a Mental Power Battle.
My village is the Village Hidden in the Clouds, so you know...

I think water is going to be pretty broken after next set and most people will be running it, but i think after a couple more sets it will balance stuff out and water isn't too bad to counter anyway. power to the anti water users ;p

I've been currently catching up with the discussion of this situation over on the Bandai site and there was a big flame war going on though the thread's locked as I speak. I take the blame for making the thread yes I know, I just felt that the truth needed to be heard.
I just don't like the idea of someone disrespecting a CCG that I enjoy playing, and then someone comes out with an article saying how bad it is when it's not as bad as the editor says it is.
Though I don't necessarily agree with Jeffthebear's notions into thinking that the Naruto CCG might end up like YGO which I believe will never happen, just 3 expansions and Water is still getting huge support is going to be rampant but it's not going to wreck the metagame.
Give it some time and the metagame will shift differently, every game has flaws, staples, and such but in the sense of YGO not necessarily. Trust me I used to play YGO before I got into other TCG's like Magic, Duel Masters, DBZ, etc.
I don't see why we can't wait til Set 4, 5, or 6 til the other elements get more of a boost they need.
The Naruto CCG is doing just fine and I really don't see it going anywhere infact just recently a Fire/Wind deck won my area's tournament, big deal I'm sure Lightning, Earth, and Wind will get their chance to shine eventually but is that happening anytime soon, Nope... just wait it out and it will happen eventually trust me!
Plus I'm sure everything will work out fine, I wouldn't worry about it at all really. The Naruto CCG has currently hit a plateau but will get over it within the next few expansions.
I don't think anything in the game needs to be banned, rather less errata them instead or restrict it but then again I'm not a big fan of restricting cards to one per deck more like errata them to where the effect of the card isn't as game breaking.
UDE has learned from the mistakes of YGO through their other best TCG which is Marvel/DC Vs. System and there may be some cases of power creep in the Naruto CCG metagame but Bandai will fix the problem If worse comes to worse trust me.
And Jeffthebear I'm sorry If I angered you any, my sincere apologizes go out to you...

Some of the decks that were being played in my last few Naruto Tournaments were:
* Mono Water
* Water/Fire
* Fire/Wind
* Wind/Lightning
* Water/Wind
* Fire/Lightning
There we're probably some others that I didn't cover. Hardly anyone in my area runs Mental anymore cause of the changes in the Sideboard rules. Earth isn't getting played much because even though they got good support, they don't have as much support to make them tournament worthy yet.
Taijutsu decks on the other hand aren't good enough to play in Tournaments yet, but when Revenge and Rebirth is released they will be IMO.
I've been playing my Fire/Wind deck in my area's Naruto Tournaments and I've only managed to win 2 games with it so far, haven't won a round with it yet.
Baki is just really annoying sometimes, especially Zabuza and Water Vortex Jutsu. But hey it's not my fault that the game's card pool is limited right now... It'll get better trust me.
Water is really dominating the metagame right now with Fire/Wind in the competition as well. Currently a Fire/Wind deck won in my last tournament.
