I have just bought my first Duel Masters product: Kokujo's darkness deck. I love the darkness themed-cards, particullarly the Dark Lord race. However, I need help.

Can an experienced player go over the basic meta of the game? My only other card game experience is with yu-Gi-Oh!. Are there any "staples" to a dark deck? What's the ideal number of cards? The correct balance between Creatures and Spells? Best Darkness monsters?

Any help or advice anyone can give at all would be appreaciated muchly. ^__^

My friend plays a dark deck so I am experienced in a way of defeating them, but at the same time know sum fundementals. At this point, there are no "staples." The closest thing are "cards that SHOULD" be in decks. People here think 40 is the best number of cards, but remember, you thin your deck by 10 cards (11 if you go second) in the beggining, by the shields and the opening hand. Currently, Ive seen alot of control decks. I think you should have more monsters than spells, since there arent alot of spells out right now that are so good to outnumber monsters. In my opinion, ulrtacide worm is the best in attack, horrid worm ahs a pretty good effect, and death smoke is annoying (Summoning a king depthcon, a 7 cost and get it killed by a death smoke, a 4 cost)

personally, seeing as to how you just started playing, I would have recommended buying the fire deck, as Darkness is a much harder play for the beginner, especially one without mana or resource experience. Honestly, Nature is probly the easiet race to learn on.

As far as staples, none as far as the game goes, but with darkness, you should be using terror pits. that's all I can really think of off the top of my head, as dark is only splashed in my deck, about 8 out of the 40 cards.

I recommned getting the starter deck, as it will be easier for you to learn the gameplay and strategies needed with it. Darkness is good, just not easy for a beginner.

i'd say the easiest basic is light and water. With their blockers, defense power, draw power etc, kinda easier to use. And more effective overall.

i'd say a green red would be best. You get easy, fast rushers and no complex spells or effects.

Thank you for the advice, but I like Darkness and will play Darkness, even if it's harder to learn. I looked over the base set and new set, and most of the Darkness cards are represented in the Kokujo deck I already have. So, my new question is, looking at that deck, how would you suggest i modify it to make it more playable?

I play a darkness/ fire deck. The best cards in darkness focus on destroying your opponent's hand, and field. A good darkness deck should stock up on Terror Pits, Death Smokes, Bone Assassin the Ripper, Bloody Squito (this is not for blocking....4000 attack for 2 cost makes it a form of creature removal), Dark Reversal, Ghost Touch, Horrid Worm, Chaos Worm, Amber Piecer, Lost Soul, Swamp Worm, and possibly Vampire Sliphy. The last 3 are high cost, and as such will usually end up getting played as mana.

Take advantage of Evolutions ability to attack on the turn they come out, and if you like you can also play a Marrow Ooze the Twister since it is a blocker than can attack your opponent.

The black theme deck has too many blockers in it, and not enough Terror Pits. So start out by taking out some of the overcost blockers and replacing them with Terror Pits.

Gracias, M-Lover.

So, a question about ratios: what's a good creature/spell ratio to have?

On the question of ratios, I think that is totally dependant on what you are trying to do with your deck. You can't win without creatures, so you will probably want to have more creatures than spells in your deck.

For most decks 10-15 spells sounds like a good amount. Which in a 40 card deck leaves you room for 25-30 creatures.

Spartain-117: If you want to play fire, the Fire Theme Deck is the best way to start. From there, just simply buy boosters (from both sets) and improve the deck when you can. The fire theme deck has a lot of the good fire cards already in it, and is a very nice place to start for a newer player.

the only problem with that is that with 50 cards, it will be harder to get the cards that you need. also, you will have way more fire than light, so it may be hard to play s lot of your light spells when you need them. since you are not playing blue, maybe you could use the 3000 power initiate-type card. it costts 4 and lets you draw a card when it CIP.
